I've been digging into Arduino lately. You might be interested to learn of this component.

(There's also this.)

Love Adafruit! I strongly considered Arduino too. The main reason I went with the Pi was because I can use gphoto to control the camera's shutter, ISO, and aperture. You can typically get shutter control out of an Arduino, though.

As for motors, I'm using steppers rather than servos, because of the specific functionality I'm going for. I'm looking for exact precision in the start and stop points. I've got a cool idea for the control UI, and I'll post about it at some point. Just focusing on getting the machine to work first!

Re: What are you excited about?

Please do post it. Camera rigs have (naturally) been one of my considerations.

Fine, Herc can have the credit for it.

Ahhh sci-fi world building. I have one that I created a few years ago, wrote a couple of stories in and created an RPG system in, haven't touched it in a bit though. Very fun to do.

It has been a lot of fun. It took me a while to get it past the rip off stage and really develop in to my own thing.

Now it is just a matter of putting it all down in writing.

You're supposed to get past the ripoff stage?

(I did a lot of ripping off but from many varied sources so things still took on a bit of a life of their own.)

I suppose you never get past the rip off stage (No, I'll never get over Macho Grande). wink

But, for me, there was a point it felt like it became its own thing rather than me pulling disparate elements of stories that I like and putting them in a blender.

My first attempt at a more serious science fiction story involved a Venom like alien symbiote, and blue and red shirts to indicate rank among alien military members. It has since improved wink

Hey, how was it? I'm going in July.

I've posted a more in-depth write up on the Reviews board.

EDIT: The Secret Cinema people actually got in touch asking me to take the review down. Oh well, if you fancy a read I'll send it via PM.

I wasn't able to read it all either but got the gist. Thanks!

My main confusion at the moment is the sign up process. Is your RebelX identity the same as the actual screening event? Where do I see information about what extra items to bring?

On the site which you register with and get your character, there should be a link at the side for 'Equipment' or something. Click that and it has all the information for each character class. Your identity is the same from registration till the show, but the name itself is not too important.
