Topic: Frankenmovies

Any movie, doesn't matter, I'll post act one from it.

Any movie, doesn't matter, you'll post act two from it.

Any movie, doesn't matter, they'll post act three from it.

Let's see what happens. The only stipulation is try to maintain the same characters throughout the frankenmovie. I'll change the names from my movie; keep using my protagonist and add names as you need to.

Act I

Barney works at his dad's store, filling up the hours, selling what they sell... but his passion lies in music. At night he practices his instrument in the back room, playing along to old records, and generally not doing anything with his talent. His girlfriend Betty is growing bored with him. Some of his old friends have formed a band, written an original song, and booked a gig at a talent show... but one of them has broken an arm and can't play. Barney agrees to play in his place, invites Betty to watch, and when they get onstage he changes the tempo of the song without warning and effectively turns the ballad into a pop song. The place goes nuts. Betty is impressed. The band is divided over whether to be pissed about the change, or to be excited that - holy shit - they just got offered a steady gig! In any case, things are looking up!

Re: Frankenmovies

Act II

The band begins a worldwide investigation of UFO activity and strange, related occurrences. Witnesses report that the UFOs make distinctive sounds: a five-tone musical phrase in a major scale.

The band broadcasts the phrase to outer space, but are mystified by the response: a seemingly meaningless series of numbers repeated over and over, until Barney recognizes it as a set of geographical coordinates pointing to Devils Tower, Wyoming.

Meanwhile, Barney's increasingly erratic behavior causes Betty to leave him, taking their three children with her. When a despairing Barney inadvertently sees a television news program about a train wreck near Devils Tower, he realizes the mental image of a mountain plaguing him is real.

The lead guitarist's girlfriend Mindy - who has been having similar visions - sees the same broadcast, and she and Barney head for Devil's Tower in spite of the false public warnings about nerve gas.

Re: Frankenmovies

Act III

At the mysterious Devil's Tower, Barney and Mindy come across a massive and dangerous alien life form. Despite their urges, the creature is captured by an opportunistic showman and taken back to New York to be part of a stage act. Mindy has formed a strange connection with the beast, and objects to its capture.

Back in New York, the alien becomes agitated by a group of reporters, and breaks free of its restraints. It kidnaps Mindy and goes on a rampage through the city. With Mindy in hand, it climbs the Empire State Building, where it is shot down by airplanes and falls to its death. Mindy survives, and is comforted by Barney, as they both sadly look upon the ruination of the beast, who died to protect Mindy.

Jesus H. Christ. Just when I thought I'd go through the whole day without being amused.

Bravi!

clap

(BTW, I'm seeing Jason Schwartzman as Barney and Christina Hendricks as Mindy. Perhaps a mo-cap performance by Benicio del Toro as the alien. Just spit-ballin' here, you know, my mind's wide open...)

Re: Frankenmovies

Forgive my ignorance, Teague, but what was your movie?

Re: Frankenmovies

Act I

The lifeless body of Jack Smelt floats in the swimming pool of a palatial mansion. As the police begin converging on the house Jack's voice narrates, in flashback style, the events leading up to his own murder.

Six months earlier, Jack was unable to find work as a screenwriter. Broke and on the verge of having his car repossessed, Joe tries to persuade bigwig producer Benicio Foote to buy his most recent script, but is thwarted when Benicio's assistant Vera gives the script terrible coverage.

Fleeing from the repo men, Jack hides his car in the garage of a seemingly-deserted mansion on Pico Boulevard - but then is startled when a woman inside calls to him. Mistaken for the undertaker summoned to collect the woman's deceased chimpanzee, Jack is ushered in by the mysterious butler, Griswold McFee.

Jack recognizes the owner of the mansion as long-forgotten silent-film star Lila Horvath. When Lila learns that Jack is a writer, she asks for his opinion on a script she has written that she hopes will revive her acting career.

Although Jack finds the script awful, he flatters Lila into hiring him as an editor...

Re: Frankenmovies

Act II

Editing turns into rewriting. As the first blizzard of the season closes the roads, isolating the mansion, Jack bangs his head against the script. Nothing is working. The mansion, though, is speaking to him. He senses its past. There is a story there. A story the ghosts need told. Miss Horvath doesn't understand. She had McFee lock up all the liquor. A drink. One good drink, and he will be able to write a new script that will make her forget hers...
