Finally had a reason to watch this thing and i'm surprised by how much i liked it. The 'stunts' are awesome. Can we still call them that when there's so much CG involved? Stuntpeople must hate CG. I know Nick Stahl from Carnivàle so it was nice to see him.
The simple white on black titles means no-one wanted to spend another cent on this movie. And yeah some of those locations look like they belong in '60s Star Trek.
Heh, i can't believe you guys had to think about whether Claire Danes is good looking or not, what kind of supermodels do you usually go out with? While you're debating that i'll be over here in a 3-way with maul2 and Tilda Swinton.
I'm including breakups as 'bad'.
1. Kiss
2. Milli Vanilli (not sure about the 'started great' part on this one)
3. Simon & Garfunkel
4. Britney Spears
5. Creedence Clearwater Revival
Next: Best geographical locations to resist the coming zombie apocalypse. Example: Toronto's CN Tower - bring enough c-rations and dvd's and you're laughin'.
The Fountain's great but i started to get sick of her saying 'do it' (or whatever) by the end, she must say it 50 times.
I love that Aronofsky did his own commentary when the studio wouldn't do one. Zarban's link is here if you've never heard it.
I think British Commonwealth is officially known as the Commonwealth of Nations these days.
Really liked this episode guys. More like lerved as Steve Martin would say. Heard references to about 4 movies i haven't seen. I also prefer an action movie with an equal amount of good, intense (to me, anyway) acting as opposed to just wall-to-wall action. Maybe that's what you get from a director and DOP who're both in their late-'50s, instead of younger directors. Or not, who knows. How old's Michael Bay?
And yeah, the show notes are great.
Oddly attractive (could i say unconventional beauties?):
1. Keira Knightley
2. Julia Roberts
3. Humphrey Bogart
4. Jeff Goldblum
5. Benicio del Toro
Boom: Great instrumental performances in rock songs. Like the drums in Rush's Subdivisions, keyboard in Genesis' The Cinema Show or the cowbell in BÖC's Don't Fear The Reaper (could use a little more cowbell actually). Looking forward to this one.
Damn, just thought of another good one: To Live and Die in L.A. Willem Dafoe is great, William Petersen plays a super-cocky guy that i should hate but he's great too. The car on a turntable thing in the car chase is stupid but otherwise a great movie with a crazy ending.
Rollerball (75). The whole corporations-run-the-world thing, man of few words James Caan can't trust anyone, those pampered people who go nuts at the slightest bit of violence, etc. Might make a good DiF.

Fair enough. There just seemed to be a negative reaction to the podcast, and i wondered 'what did you expect?'
It's like the guy who goes to the doctor and says 'it hurts when i do this.' So the doctor says 'don't do that.'
Who listens to a commentary about a movie he hates?

Like if you've heard a million times that 2001: a space odyssey is supposed to be a masterpiece but some Dorkman-type people say it's slow and boring, so you never get around to watching it cause you think it'll be slow and boring.
Or maybe you read that the original Solaris is supposed to be good but then you think 'there's no way i'm watching some weird early-'70s Soviet film'.
Let me rephrase because my english not so good: Movies you heard were good but could never be bothered to check out.
1- Jaws
2- Contact
2- Anniversary Show 2010
3- Aliens
4- The Fly
5- The Abyss
Top 5 movies you'd like to check out but haven't because you think you won't like it.
I like Stiller ok but it depends on what movie he's in. I like Tenenbaums a lot but Tropic Thunder is a little more uneven. He does kind of always play the same guy though.
I don't think him playing unlikable characters is a good reason to dislike him. I watched Michael Clayton again recently and it's amazing how far they go to make Tilda Swinton's character unlikable but she does a great job so i have to admire her as an actress. I have no idea what she's like as a person.
2) Hard Eight. I like the whole thing at the beginning where he shows the bum how to get a free room and stuff at the casino by only betting $20.
3) JFK. The opening credits are riveting.
Uh, that's all i can think of...

These people must've felt a combination of awe and 'you're not getting me into that thing!' standing next to this monster. Looks like the '20s. wiki
Someone mentioned Super Fly in another topic. A great no-budget movie with great music. The 'coke montage' is awesome. And that car!
Movie posters:
1) Blade Runner
2) Return of the Jedi
3) The Two Jakes
4) Raiders of the Lost Ark
5) Pulp Fiction
Man you guys are quick. Ok.
Composers:
1) Jerry Goldsmith. Alien and ST: TMP in the same year, awesome. Planet of the Apes and Chinatown are also great and totally different.
2) Vangelis. I love the Blade Runner soundtrack.
3) Hans Zimmer. The Dark Knight, Gladiator.
4) Michel Rubini. I've never heard of him but he did Manhunter, which had great music.
5) John Williams. Star Wars.

I've listened to some other people's commentaries more than once but not a DiF so far. There's a few i haven't gotten to yet anyway.
I've reversed over parts a bunch of times though. I laughed my guts out during the 'typing complete sentences' part of Alien. And Trey's 'the fruit-bats are coming out' comment during Contact made me rewind a few times.
I guess so far my favorite is Jaws, there's a feeling of 'i'm surprised how good this old movie is' about it.

2) Akira
The 1st time i saw this i was really wondering wtf. Especially with the wierd music.
3) Network
Can you imaging this happening for real, with 40m people watching live?
4) The Elephant Man
Dude, are you showing a woman getting raped by an elephant? Lynch was offered Dune based on this. Drugs were so cheap in the 80's! *sigh*
5) Bush's reaction
He just sat there not knowing how to react. Scary stuff.
