Topic: Drop The Pilot Podcast

Hey all, I'm back to whore something, I heard podcasting was a dying art, so what perfect time to start one than right now? I decided to go with TV pilots that were never picked up because pilot season fascinates me  and I knew I could ask my friends I met through this here forum to help me. So, for the first episode, I am joined by Sofa Dogs' very own John Pavlich and later episodes feature Zarban and dudes from the Extended Edition podcast. In this first episode, we talk about the 1991 pilot Revenge of the Nerds, based on the 80s film of the same name. It's just a bit of fun, really, chatting about a poor TV pilot so I hope you listen and enjoy. Or at the very least, listen. It is on Soundcloud, iTunes and at the site here-https://dropthepilotpod.blogspot.co.uk/

Thanks, Teague.  smile  I have recorded a few already, I am bloody nervous at first but get more confident as I go, I think. You are welcome to guest at some point in the future if there is an available pilot suitable for you to natter about.

Re: Drop The Pilot Podcast

I'm loving this.

I'd hop on for an episode but;
a) you and I don't get along that great
b) I can't think of a show I've watched the unaired pilot to tongue

Great podcast though!

Thanks Tom, appreciate that. . You are welcome on any time, mate. Seriously. I always link to the video of the pilot to my co-hosts beforehand so they can watch, so no problems there.  smile

Episode four is here! Tysto/Zarban joins me again to discuss the sit-com that Nathan Fillion would have starred in right after Firefly, Alligator Point (2003). iTunes, SoundCloud and here-

Enjoy.

Re: Drop The Pilot Podcast

Episode five is alive! John Pavlich joins me to chat about Fearless, an action drama pilot that was due to air on the now defunct WB network. The show tells the story of Gaia, a young FBI agent who was born without the fear gene. It was based on a book series from the author of Sweet Valley High, so make of that what you will.

iTunes, SoundCloud and here- https://dropthepilotpod.blogspot.co.uk/

I link to the pilot on Youtube on my site.  smile

Re: Drop The Pilot Podcast

Episode 6 is up. Tysto/Zarban joins me again to talk about Evel Knievel (1974). A pilot that is not very good but has a great theme tune. It stars a young Sam Elliot, with brown hair and minus a mustache as the titular stunt performer once played by George Hamilton and later played by himself. I am actually proud of this, I think it's a fun one. The show will be released every second Wednesday from now on, unless I get bored and edit early.  smile

https://dropthepilotpod.blogspot.co.uk/ … -1974.html

Oh, before I forget, I am looking for guests for this thing. I want to have a bigger variety of voices as I have access to around 80+ pilots of various lengths and genres. Private Message me or just post here, whatever, it's all good.

Re: Drop The Pilot Podcast

How does one go about familiarizing oneself with un-picked-up pilotry?

Re: Drop The Pilot Podcast

There are loads of them on Youtube and Dailymotion and I have a list of those in a Google Docs document. Anyone who wants to guest can let me know and I will send them the list for them to peruse. Tell me which ones you are interested in and I'll let you know.  smile

Re: Drop The Pilot Podcast

Right on. Not that it's any of my business, but — unless you're opposed — I wonder if you might get more folks signin' up if the list (and ultimately topic) was easily browsable to them now. Most of us haven't been culturally exposed to unaired pilots — 'cuz, you know, unaired — so we wouldn't consider talking about them on a podcast, for the same reason we wouldn't consider talking about hydroponic gardening on a podcast, or any other topic we have no experience with. At the moment, this offer is sort of like: 'if any of you are interested in talking about hydroponic gardening on a podcast, message me and I'll forward you the basic pre-requisites of that topic.'

I understand not wanting to give away your whole future line-up, of course... but on the other hand, you're mining from a finite resource anyway, so it's not like your future line-up is a complete mystery to begin with.

*shrug*

Just a thought; not sure how much it'd move the needle.

Re: Drop The Pilot Podcast

Hey, man, I appreciate the input, cheers. The thing is, my podcast isn't all that complicated. You look at the list, see what interests you, either the synopsis or the cast, I link it to you to watch and we talk about it on Skype. The list has a synopsis and members of the cast, sometimes even a director if they are of some note (like Wes Craven or Ron Howard). We discuss if the show was rightfully pulled, speculate what it could have been if it continued, the cast, the writing, directing, whatever comes up, really. What the pilot is about or its backstory doesn't really matter, all I ask is if you like watching TV shows and want to discuss one that didn't make it, that's it, really. The conversation after watching the show just comes organically. Apart from the pages of notes I take  big_smile

There are sit-coms, dramas, thrillers, horror shows, animated comedies, musicals (well, one), US shows based on UK ones, pilots based on movies, they are 20 minutes, 40 minutes or feature length. There is loads of variety.  Anyone who wants to join in, listen to an episode or two, I recommend the Evel Knievel one as that (or Fearless) are what the format is going to be going on. The others, I was still learning. And if you don't want to join in, that's groovy too, no harm done   smile

Re: Drop The Pilot Podcast

After chatting with my esteemed colleague, John Pavlich here is the list-

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1akL … sp=sharing

There are over 100 there and I add pilots whenever I find more and delete them from the list when the show is removed from Youtube or Dailymotion.
