He could go on for ages asking questions. So many questions that one could do a taxonomy of them, dividing them up into:

1. Problems with the science: DNA & evolution, scientists don't behave like that, FTL travel just 80 years into the future, action-hero with a stapled abdomen, David knowing an alien language, rapid biomass contravening the law of conservation of mass-energy, etc.
2. Problems with movie grammar: ill-defined character motivations, inconsistent behaviour, a storm that leave everything the same, struggling to escape from a crashing ship only to be crushed by it, redundant characters that should have been rolled into one, endless stupid dialogue, no subtitles on David's question, characters disappearing, David's sinister behaviour not explained, etc.
3. Problems with the plot: Engineer motivation to destroy Earth? Engineer reason to kill the humans upon waking, what's with the holograms? Worms? Getting lost despite having 3D maps? Relationship of LV-223 to LV-426, morphology of xenomorphs, 35,000 year old cave paintings that point to a weapons facility, secrecy of Weyland, why would Shaw trust David at the end, why would Shaw trust another Engineer, and dozens of other things.

It's the sheer quantity that's the problem. Every sci-fi movie has a couple of problems of this nature that we're prepared to forgive (e.g. magic bean), but rarely do A-list movies commit so many errors.

Re: [Spoiler Zone] Prometheus

I'd have removed the nonsensical opening. First, it ruins the surprise of what the engineers look like and second it doesn't make any sense. Why would human DNA match that of the engineers, when the DNA left on Earth that started 'life' was significantly mutated by the black goo? And why the hell is our DNA a perfect match for theirs anyway since from appearance alone, we're obviously not genetically identical!

And the decreasing/increasing crew size annoyed me. There had to be at least 2 more crew on board the ship in addition to the Captain and the pilots. They're so invisible they might as well have had a crew of 6 or 7, and not 17 (as stated in the beginning).

I was a bit confused about David too, he obviously has emotions (we see it in his reactions) yet everyone seems to talk to him as if he doesn't. Yet the revelation that he does have feelings isn't a subplot or anything.

Lots of half baked ideas here.

It's like instead of pandering down to people with fart jokes, racist humor and pointless scenes of cool over-the-top action, this movie is pandering UP to snobby arthouse critics by giving them pointless metaphor, bullshit philosophy and confusingly bizarre sequences that OBVIOUSLY have to mean SOMETHING...  right?

This was precisely the problem with LOST. Episodes were full of off-hand references to intellectual literature, a character would be reading a book for instance, but none of them ever actually meant anything. They were just there to make the audience think there was something deeper going on. This kind of superficial pandering seems to be Lindelof's forte.

Re: [Spoiler Zone] Prometheus

Sunshine had a scientific consultant: Brian Cox. I thought it's now de rigour for most science-fiction movies and TV shows to hire a scientific consultant. Prometheus obviously didn't have one.
How much can it cost to hire a science PhD from Caltech or UCLA? Sit him down with a red highlighter and go through the script for a couple of hours, and highlight the blatantly unscientific bits. $1000 max? Out of a budget of well over $100M? That tattoo make-up on the geologist probably cost more. Idiots.

Great. Someone mentioned Sunshine. Now I'm angry!

And thus we have the Conspiracy theory!

The idea of people deriving joy from imagining depth where there is none is not a new thing. It's just we're not the kind of people that stand around water coolers going, oh wow, your right man, that's so cool. We go, fuck you and your bullshit ideas.

I believe this is called talking down to your audience or something to that effect.

I don't like Lindeloff.

All Michael Bay had to do for Transformers 2 or George Lucas for the prequels is sprinkle in a bit of Virgil, Homer, Sartre, Nietzsche, William Blake, and Camus and they've got themselves profound chin-stroking classics.

There's a script-polish.
And then there's a pseudo-intellectual tarting up.
Expect to see more of it.

Pretty sure that's how every dialogue scene in the MATRIX sequels came about.

Was I the only person who understood everything the Architect said the first time I watched it? Hell, that was one of the few bits in the second flick that actually felt like it fit in with the first movie.

I don't really have anything to add here except to point out to Squiggly that Shaw is played Noomi Rapace, who was the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, not Rooney Mara. Although Rooney might have been a more awesome choice.

Re: [Spoiler Zone] Prometheus

I like ars.

My problems with the film began almost immediately. A Lord of the Rings-inspired panoramic landscape gives way to a humanoid standing by a waterfall. He drinks some black goop, and then his DNA begins to fall apart, followed quickly by the rest of him. This mess all dissolves into the river, et voilà—the implication is that humans arose because of this. Just five minutes in and my brain is already beginning to push back against this dreck.

Man, I have been screwing them up ever since they announced the remake for the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

I think we were trying to think of what the alien races in this movie would be called if it were directed by George Lucas.

At least if it were made by George Lucas they would have explained what the fuck was going on.

In Blade Runner, the conversation between Batty and Tyrell in the top-floor apartment ("I want more life") was one of the highlights of the movie.

So in Prometheus, the same conversation is given as an un-subtitled question in an alien language, and the answer is 'rrraaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!' that you'd expect off a cave-man, not an enlightenment advanced being.

If, as the article suggests there is MORE to the conversation, all in un-subtitled alien-speak, I don't want it. What's the point of that?

Ridley Scott to direct Transformers 5. That's his level now.

At least that would mean that David heard it, and could share it with us in the sequel.

Thanks for coming along with me in the spaceship!

Thanks for putting my head back on my body.

He gave me a recipe for egg salad.

NOOMI
We traveled thirty light years and lost fifteen people... for that?

DAVID
Apparently it's really good egg salad.

Later:

NOOMI
Mmmm, sooo worth it.  You gonna finish that?

Re: [Spoiler Zone] Prometheus

Once the movie is out on DVD/Blu-Ray, I can see that question and response being parodied in a DOWNFALL-like meme. Anyone can put their own subtitle there... whatever topic of the day is.
