Expectations suitably lowered, thanks. At least it's not like I have to rush through the remaining 2/3rds of the book, considering I have at least a few years before the next comes out

No costumes this year, but Spiff and I carved our pumpkins tonight.
I'm slogging through the Dance with Dragons audiobook. Can someone tell me that the ending is awesome? I really enjoyed up to Storm of Swords, but then Feast for Crows was slow with a really abrupt end and Dance with Dragons isn't much better. Too many new characters and new story lines that I don't really care about. I get that the two books are parallel and I'm hoping that the "real" ending is in Dance with Dragons.
The book (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) is reasonably clear that Deckard is not a replicant, but I think it's been stated that the movie was only loosely adapted from the book. Certainly lots of other parts are rather different too (no electric sheep, the whole Mercerism thing, the other main character J.R. Isidore, most of the plot, and the ending).
Honestly, as far as I could tell it didn't really matter whether the whole lot of characters in the movie were replicants. Certainly they didn't act like humans. To be fair, the book was not much better at making me give a damn about the characters.
I do not love our blurray player. It is slow as molasses and takes more than a minute just to load the menu of most new discs.
But it does show all the pixels.
I don't mean to sound like a pretentious ass, but I honestly wouldn't want to eliminate any film. That isn't to say that some films don't deserve it, but I have a soft spot for bad movies as well. Every film has it's place in the world.
I wrote that post, and I was about to hit Submit before I remembered The Last Airbender. Fuck that movie.
The best I can say of it is that its existence led Dorkman to write a blog about the two Avatars, which brought the TV series to my attention. And eternal admiration.
Curious Spiff and Sabeel want to know which slap was the one DIF found funny? The first one with the glove or the second in the long take?

If I remember correctly, LCC was started back in the heyday of fan films when there was a running trope of "Oh man, not another lame lightsaber fight in a forest. Do something more interesting people!". I think the theory was to gather up all the lightsaber fights in one place, and encourage other fan films for the rest of the year. Also to encourage better lightsaber fights.
Considering that the LCC is now probably the largest producer of Star Wars fan films these days, I think the first part of the theory backfired. On the up side, the fights themselves are much improved.
As for having a sort of "Fan Film Oscars", it's definitely been discussed in many threads. The big problem is the limited number of fan films that come out each year. Fully made fan films can take years to come out, and barely any are made these days. Also, as Teague says, it's hard to come up with rules and judging criteria. "What's your favourite fan film?" is another cliche thread on TFN fan films.
Being Canadian, maul2 is allowed to use British spelling. Being American, Teague is allowed to make fun of him for it
Wasn't the plane flying from the Austrian Alps to New York? I'm still trying to figure out how Greenland got between them. http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=jfk-inn
Anyway, I enjoyed Captain America about as much as G.I. Joe. It occurs to me that ShadowDuelist might be talking about some planes and missiles from G.I. Joe, not Captain America, which shows how much I remember about it...
Late! Or really really early...
The behind the scenes about that shot from Tom-Yum-Goong/The Protector is crazy. It's four minutes long because that's how much film they could fit in the camera, and in one of the earlier takes they ran out of film just as Tony was getting up the last stairs. Once more with faster
I don't know what Zarban is talking about it being dull. It's like watching an impressive performance at a circus. There are no breaks or pauses or cuts around flubs; what you see is what was performed on set. Damn impressive.
I think Kyle's was actually The Life Aquatic, but I don't have a new one in mind. Go Zarban Go!
Hot Fuzz!
The Enneadic Suburb
Trey's answer was correct for mine, so he wins twice. In retrospect, influence =/= bend, and curve would have been better. Either way, the TV series was awesome, but we're only doing movies here.
Brian's turn.
Good Guys Wear Black (thank you rottentomatoes)
The singular being that influences atmospheric contents
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
Rapidness Person who is Fast
Matt: yep
Usually N is a number, so it works if you're talking about the series in general (Journey to the Heavens N), but not so much if you're replacing N with a phrase. The confusing thing is I think you were doing both.
There will be Blood
Royal Dog Toy
Chris mentioned Figwit in the commentary. Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time... My mind was just blown to learn that he was played by Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords. Clearly there are only so many people in New Zealand.
I bet he'll complain about the new characters randomly introduced with some retconned back story the writers dragged out when they were low on ideas.
To be fair, Lucas wasn't exactly clear in his statement. Starting at 3:40 on Attack of the Show, in response to "Where is the show now?"
It sits on the shelf. We have 50 hours and we're just waiting to figure out a different way of making movies; a different technology that we can use that will make it so that it's economically feasible to shoot the show. Right now it looks like the Star Wars features but we have to figure out a way of making it for about a 10th the cost of the features, because it's television. We're working towards that and we will get there at some point but it's just a very very difficult process. Obviously when we do figure this problem out it will dramatically affect a lot of movies, because a lot of features now that are costing 150 - 200 million dollars, will suddenly be able to make them for 50 or 60 million.
The face of the guy beside him is priceless. I thought it was James Cameron, but it's not. It would be funnier if it was.
I'd really think that Netflix would be a prime sponsor. You could try doing Netflix Affiliate links, like the Amazon ones: http://ca.netflix.com/Affiliates?fcld=true
I remember reading an interview with Alfonso Cuarón where he talked about making Children of Men. Basically he liked the premise, but didn't particularly care for the book. I think he didn't even read it, but had other people read it so they could fill in blanks for him. So he took the 'magic bean' and the themes and the characters (sort of) and made his own thing. He was also not interested in the Human Project at all, which is why the movie doesn't even go there.
