Did you enjoy this? Should we do more? (Not just Trey's stories, and not necessarily an hour and a half long. Some projects don't take four years. )
*checks watch*
Man, these guys had a hell of a job on their hands.
Yup.
Also, it occurred to me right when the party was starting that I forgot to invite you and need your phone number.
We're gonna leave this up until Oscar day.
Not too late to vote.
Do it. Kick ass. Do it. No, you. Kick ass.
Most of you know we do these parties, so I won't even set up the clip. Just wanted to share this here as well so if you're somewhere else on the planet, you can feel like you were there.
Here's previous parties:
Jurassic Park
Independence Day
Twister
These videos are in reverse chronological order, so you're actually seeing the scale and precedent of the parties diminish as you scroll down. We also had a party for Raiders of the Lost Ark and another movie I can apparently no longer remember, which were so early on we didn't even get video of them.
Yes, Kick Ass at two p.m. PST. Sorry for the forgetting.
No, that one got scrapped. We'll probably get around to re-doing it at some point, if the demand is high enough, but so far nobody seems to mind not revisiting it.
Down in Front, for the most part. Sometimes I find old Nerdist episodes. (This second, I'm listening to Chris Hardwick chat with David Tennant.)
Basically anything long, talky, and not annoying.
When I'm doing music, I like Venus Hum's Big Beautiful Sky, I went through a big Hush Sound Like Vines phase. Pulp's This is Hardcore is great with good headphones. Further Down the Spiral if it's really late.
Just, "you can only remove or re-arrange." Basically. But we refer to Phantom Editing as a potential fix often, and folks might not know what that shit is.
Trey mentioned something that I had seen too, where the point was made "you'll be better off with a random button Netflix than just watching related movies." I'm not sure if this is what Trey saw, but this is what that reminded me of.
Can't embed a YouTube player with a specific timecode, apparently.
This entire video is among my favorites on the internet, just because I love Stephen Fry's entire outlook and try to live it myself, but the timecode where the video above starts is when he makes that point.
Add the Phantom Edit rules, too.
I guess I don't have to ask if you guys are big fans of commentaries.
Tell your friends! Thanks for the help everyone. This was harder than I thought it would be, but I learned a lot and I think...were we so inclined...it'd be easier to do a second time than it was the first. Just sayin.'
In case you missed this as it was happening, it began in the chat room and sort of spilled over into the Creations board with a help thread. One by one people chimed in with different vocal takes and instrument performances, and I slugged them all into place and chopped the videos up.
I had a blast with this thing and with getting the videos from everyone. I'm thinking the chat room was a pretty nifty addition, all things considered.
*sigh*
I hate this new "do whatever Zarban says" rule.
*dollar*
I just watched that for the first time last night.
...I have no interesting watching that movie again, even for comedy purposes.
That was the most depressing thing that's happened to me in a long time.
Just. Fuckin. Bleh.
It's not too late, and go as low as you need to. I wanna wrap this thing up here in the next couple days, though.
I'm only sorry that it didn't occur to me earlier that you were using GIMP. Hopefully it was still helpful conceptually.
I thought about it, and the best I could think to do is to show by example. So I made this. You should get a trial version of Photoshop, sir. I think it's completely functional and free for a month or so.
Photoshop CS3 and above will open this PSD.
The important bit, though, is that I recorded and tutorialized it every step of the way as I was making it. So you can see how I did it and hear why and other random tidbits of hopefully useful information.
