No, James Horner is definitely your Surrogates.

There was an excellent podcast by Film Score Monthly, called Opportunity Makes a Thief, where they laid out a ton of examples of Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Britten and others showing up wholesale in the scores for Star Treks II & III; however, where the podcast was hosted seems to have re-organized and lost it.

I have a copy if someone wants to hear it, and it's definitely worth listening to if you are interested in the short-cuts some composers take.

Also, there are only 17 films on that list.  tongue

Since everyone was promised 18, I suggest we vote on what the 18th film should be.

I'll start: Star Trek: Nemesis.

You know, for Brian.

I saw Lifeforce in the cinema when it came out, at a time when I was keeping notes and writing little reviews. I wrote in my notes: "the worst film I have *ever* seen." I don't recall feeling that way about a movie since.

I dare everyone change their votes in the last five minutes! Or don't you want to play 'Stakes or Chicken'?

That's way better than what Doctor Who does with ending the ep with a teaser for next week, virtually cramming minor spoilers down your throat.

To be fair, they have sometimes been sensible and either put the trailer after the end credits (so you have time to find your remote to change the channel after recovering from the cliff-hanger), or not even run a trailer where literally any frame of the next episode would break the mood. For example, when all the main characters were bumped off and the whole Universe exploded as well, even the 'To Be Continued' was kind of a spoiler.

Not any more. (Is that a spoiler?) They stopped making them at the end of season six -- the 2011 Christmas Special is the first episode not to have one.

They also used to do commentaries as podcasts that were released right after the episode first aired, and sometimes also did a Red Button broadcast where the commentary was the audio track. That's all stopped too; the only commentaries now are on the DVDs.

Having enjoyed Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I would also be interested in DiF's take on it.

I found it surprisingly well-made, but then I was expecting a summery blockbuster, and I was prepared to treat as a Magic Bean the fact that the research company was a sub-division of Evil Cardboard Incorporated.

(At one point, when the Evil English Boss was conspiring with the Slow-Speaking Protagno-Scientist to approve his hitherto-unauthorized shenanigans, I blurted out "And that's how pharmaceutical companies work!" Fortunately, I was at home, so didn't get smacked in the mouth.)

I was disappointed in Patrick Doyle's score, though, which seemed phoned-in from a booth just outside the Media Ventures offices.

Those accents are all fine, but they're definitely actual Scots Scotting up the place, and being all Scottish about it, a bit like tall people actively making a point of their height, rather than just being ordinarily overbearing.

They're all more authentic than Simon Pegg's Scotty, for example, which was a good effort on his part, but with flaws.

Google Plus URLs are hideous. How about doing what I do, and have a redirect from a URL under your own domain to your G+ URL, so you can give people a sensible URL for your G+ page? (See my sig for an example.)
