Also, Lifeforce is probably the only chance you'll ever get to see Patrick Stewart kiss another dude.  (At least that I'm aware of.)

I'm sure you could find Captain Picard doing much more than that to another guy if you looked around on the internet for 5 minutes.

Maybe it's just me but the commentary abruptly stops during a statement Eddie makes at about two hours in. Is this happening for anyone else?

Apparently there is a 5 hour long cut of Heaven's Gate out there. How is this possible?

Submission?

I can't pick just one because I have to make a distinction between terrible high budget films with a wide release and terrible indy flicks that cost like three thousand bucks that nobody has ever seen. Having said that, the worst film I've seen that actually got a wide release is Battlefield Earth. The worst low budget stinker I've seen is Manos: The Hands Of Fate. Speaking of which, I implore everyone to check out this website:

What is better than a game where you rename movies? A sequel to a game where you rename movies!

1) Pick a movie or television series
2) Drop one letter from the title
3) Describe its new plot and recast it

If you saw Drive this year, you have to see this video. If you haven't seen it, watch it anyway.

I just realized something that should have dawned on me sooner. If Nielsen ratings only really matter to network television, why do we care? Think about it. All of the shows people talk about and point to as being the best or their favorite are on HBO, AMC or another channel that isn't one of the big four. Who gives a shit if Nielsen works or not if the only people using it are producing watered down formulaic crap to begin with?

From a business standpoint, I get why Nielsen ratings exist. Networks have to know what people are watching so they can throw on more advertisements and all that stuff.

From an artistic standpoint, I think putting a numeric value next to a show and using that as a judge of quality is horseshit.

"It's so frustrating we live in an age where we're still using the Nielsen ratings. It's so horribly archaic! Just seeing how passionate the fan following is for Community, I know that the Nielsen families that they're using are not accurately reflective of the amount of people watching this show."

I still stand by my analogy that this is a Creationist argument.

"Despite my limited understanding of the means by which this data was gathered, I reject the conclusion because I don't like it.  In response I submit my own completely unsupported theory, based on anecdotal evidence that proves everyone who agrees with me, agrees with me."

It's also odd how often people seem to interpret low Nielsens as "this show sucks, so if you like it then Nielsen says YOU suck, how bout that?"   I mean, damn - you gotta be pretty thin-skinned to take math personally.

How hard is it to accept the possibility that your fave show may be great for you and people who share your sensibility... and there simply aren't enough of you?  If Slashfilmcast believes that Nielsen families don't adequately represent them, well... do they realize there's more than one possible explanation for that?  smile

I'm not a fan of Nielsen ratings but I understand why television uses them. Does this make me a creationist?

I just found this and I can't stop laughing:

I actually did the same exact thing for a student film of mine. Only difference is that I worked with a budget of about 200 bucks with limited resources.

Oh, Frank Langella is brilliant in that one. So is Raul Julia in Street Fighter...

Absolutely. Julia is like a long lost Bond villain in that flick.

I was prompted to listen to this full episode earlier tonight after Teague sent me a message about Toy Story rape and Joss Whedon.  I think I listened to pieces of it a few months ago but never finished the full thing. I gotta give a little backstory about my experience with this film so you can truly understand my relationship with it.  I never had a strict upbringing as a kid when it came to the type of movies I could watch. I can remember seeing Terminator and Predator when I was around 7. One of the benefits of my stepdad being a cheap bastard is that he had one of those "special" cable boxes so I was able to watch a lot of stuff that would normally require a rental. I didn't watch all of these movies with supervision and I saw quite a few by myself in the basement. This happened to be one of those movies and I can still remember thinking it was nothing more than average when I saw it as a kid. As an adult, I outright hate the film other than a couple decent moments scatted within mountains of mediocrity.

Anyway, about the commentary, Eddie carried this episode like he was Sam with Frodo on his back on the way up Mordor.

Shit on me that looks worth a watch in theaters.
