Ooh, space me! Space me!

Yeah, better to just tax it into oblivion at a thousand dollars a pack.

Yeah, it all depends on where exactly you draw the line on the definition, much as with debates about taxes and the definitions of "poor" and "rich."

Those are good terms to frame it, ones I hadn't considered before.

Of course, under those terms the argument to make nicotine flatly illegal becomes pretty strong. It always amazes me how much tradition trumps internal consistency.

That's a good suggestion, though.

As I've already mentioned to Teague, I've lost a couple of posts because of Hello thing, both times when posting from my phone. I don't know what exactly happened, but I don't recall even getting the Hello thing, it looking like it processed fine, and only later realizing the post didn't go through.

Actually speaking of old classics, the new "as uncut as we're ever going to get it" print of Metropolis is playing in Buffalo this week. Any chance of you guys doing something that old school?

I saw that a few months back when it was playing in LA. It's absolutely mind boggling some of the shit they pull in that film - it still rivals Titanic in terms of sheer audacity of production, in my opinion.

And then he wakes up and discovers what he thought was the real world was actually...a THIRD Matrix.

Then he wakes up again.

And AGAIN.

...

It's Matrices all the way down, is what I'm saying.

The only thing i can add is when Brian talks at one point about how the spinning gravity thing might not work if the cylinder's too small because G would be lower at your head... That doesn't sound right. Seems to me the direction of force goes through your body like an arrow from the top, and pushes the whole body down. Who knows...

It's been awhile since I've listened to this commentary, but the point I was probably making was that in a rotating chamber with a small enough circumference, the weight will be noticeably different at the floor than at head level, which will screw with your sense of balance.

That cat looks like the brain bug from the end of Starship Troopers.

Yeah, cute idea, but very long. I guess that's part of the point, but seriously.

Impressive variety of locations though.

As well as some other stuff you can see on my Vimeo page: http://vimeo.com/user3029603/videos

I love my 7D; it's not without it's limitations, but it produces unbelievable images for the price. That being said, while the camera and a basic lens put it in the 1-2k range, outfitting it with other accessories to make it a truly viable filmmaking machine bump up the cost. In addition to the camera and kit lens, I got a decent tripod with a fluid head, a couple of prime lenses to take advantage of the camera's low light capabilities, a sound recorder and shotgun mic, and other smaller accessories. None of these are top of the line, by a long shot, but it's still a few hundred dollars each, which adds up quickly. And that's not counting a proper hand held rig (I bought a Gorilla-pod, which I use as a poor man's hand held rig), a case to carry it all, or a slew of other incidentals.

But you don't necessarily need to get that fancy with it. It all depends on what you want to do. If you're out to practice your storytelling and compositional skills, I'd say go for it and then just get out there and shoot. You only get better by doing and it's vastly easier to do when you have a small camera like a DSLR that you can just grab and go with. But if you have a few specific projects in mind, it might be better to go Paulou's route.

Also, I haven't done anything with 7D footage and visual effects, so I can't speak to that aspect.

If you're only focused on video, consider the T2i, I went with the 7D as a way to upgrade my still and video cameras at the same time.

Can we please move this oh so fascinating discussion to the Enhanced thread in off topic?

I keep seeing "New Posts" for the Empire topic and getting excited about the prospect of someone actually talking about the commentary.

I could even buy a world where people basically play "The Sims" in this way since, after all, "The Sims" is a real thing that many people play.

But there's a reason why nobody has made a "Sims" movie.

The fact that the filmmakers picked this magic bean and chose "The Sims" world over the "World of Warcraft" world - or better yet the absurd juxtaposition of the two (which, as I understand it, is what "Second Life" is) - is the first indication of a serious lack of imagination.
