Nicely done mate! I always love these kinds of things.

Is the model yours as well then?

Also, do you often use Lightwave or is that just what you had available?

Since I somehow missed it the first time I read through this thread, in response to your chat with Kyle Mattingly.

The analogy is somewhat flawed (At least from how I see this podcast), with a wrestling match it is simple pure entertainment, nothing more. And if thats all you guys are trying to do with Down in Front than fine, feel free to ignore the shit outta me. But somehow I've gotten the feeling you guys are trying to do more with thing.
So I would propose a better analogy. A scientific conference. So every year you book some of the same old same old guys to come in and talk, and I mean sure there stuff is interesting and pretty cool. But then one year they have the opportunity to bring in the man himself, Einstein. Who, lets face, is gonna have some seriously cool shit to talk about.

I have always seen Down in Front as an outlet to expel cool information and thoughts on movie making, of which VFX are a major part nowadays. So why should you pass up the opportunity to talk to someone with more knowledge than you (And share it with the rest of us tongue ) simply to maintain the status quo.

If you can't tell I feel very strongly on this subject and I would hate to see Down in Front get stuck in the rutt of "Well they like us, so it can only ever be us."

That's absolutely part of it. I'm already invested in listening to the regulars and the regular dynamic of the group, so any new participant almost has to win me over.

But I'd also be worried about the commentary becoming too focused on the VFX talk while the discussion about the areas I personally care the most about would suffer.

Yah I'm about to be "that guy", prepare yourself.

In response I would say bluntly, bullshit, I hear the "regulars" every week. And simply because there will be a guest does not mean that our regulars are suddenly void. It simply means that we get a little variety in our listening experience, which i am a huge fan of.

And as for the second half of that, becoming to focused on one thing in a commentary has never been avoided in previous commentaries (The Hurt Locker anyone? I believe the conclusion there was, suck it up, if you don't like it, there'll be another one next week.) I fail to see the need to suddenly start restricting yourselves in this way now.

Just the honest truth of what i think, but if it comes down to it, I would throw support behind the dual commentaries.

If it's someone worth bringing on, who will actually have some decent VFX shit to talk about, then I'd give a resounding HELL YES!!

Anyone on here watch Sanctuary?

I watched the webisodes when they were first coming out but then kinda forgot about it til a couple weeks ago. Then I blitzed through Season 1 and am just starting season 2 now (Actually on epi 2 as I type tongue)

And I am in frickin loooove!

And Nikola is definitly my favorite character only next to Christopher Heyerdahls' (Yah that's kinda of a cheat, but come on it's frickin Chris Heyerdahl!)

And I have a new favorite depiction of Vampires.

Anyways, just wanted to find some other people I can talk to about it, no one else I know watches it. Especially seeing as they are a "few" VFX guys around here (me included), I think it might be prudent to point out that the entire frickin show is shot on green screen.

Well I only got about halfway through the movie so far, (got really weighed down by all the military reminiscing and technicality, not really my thing) but from what I've heard so far (In addition to what I heard from the anniversary show) it seems like you guys started out saying that this movie got a lot of things right and things were really realistic and all that. But as the movie went along the primary thing I noticed was that when it came to the nitty gritty details (guns, vehicles etc.) you guys were pretty much in agreement that they were accurate (Except for the youtube reference and the uniforms...). But nearly everytime someone (Usually Teague) brought up "So is this how the real EOD would do it?" or "So is this how it would really happen?" I heard an overwhelming amount of "Oh no, that's completely a movie fabrication." or more more usual, "Oh hell no."

Which leads me to wonder, how much of this movie is actually right?? (I mean on a character level, as a representation of what actually goes on over there)

Again you guys probably wrap it up nicely in the last half, but since you asked, I wanted to get that out there.

So I finally got around to seeing this, and i gotta say I really liked it. But I noticed an interesting trend with people I talk to about (who have actually seen it), some say they thought it was amazing, and others hated it with every fiber of their being.

And I just want to throw out some ideas I 've been thinking about since I left the theater.

I personally loved the movie, it felt like a perfect (Well damn near) representation of how to properly do a sequel to Alice in Wonderland.
I think alot of people going into it were expecting basically Avatar in wonderland. Thats just the sorta general vibe I got, you know where it has the typical Hollywood "A leads to Character B introduction that leads us to C which causes D" whereas that is totally not what Alice in Wonderland is about.
I mean the original Alice In Wonderland was essentially a collection of surreal/ nonsensical poems extrapolated and projected into a semi novel format. So there wasn't any sort of over arching plot to it or anything like that, it was simply "Alice meets characters A,B and C. They talk. Alice leaves. Alice meets character D and E. Repeat until you feel like having a conclusion.

And I am really glad that either Tim Burton or the writers realized this and actually played it that way (I will make a minor sidenote here, that if you look at Burtons AiW there is actually an overarching plot while still keeping that nonsensical feel to it.). Mainly because if they had tried to play Alice in Wonderland straight it wouldn't be Alice in Wonderland anymore, it would be just another of the weird kinda animated films that came out this year. And the fact that they managed to maintain that surreal quality to it makes me very happy. It just feels like a truer representation of "this is Alice in Wonderland". And I mean since this is technically a sequel I don't see why people would expect the style to change so dramatically from the original material.

Or maybe they just didn't know any better. Who knows. Or probably the more likely they were expecting the Disney-fied version. (I have a lovely rant on this later down)

I'll say that I do particularly love the way that they handled the 13 year time difference and the character changes that happened in that time. It really feels like a natural progression of the original. ANd thank god the Red Queen actual chops of the heads of people, I soooo loathe any edition that tries to play the lame gag of "Oh it's all just a game! We were never actually going to cut anyone's head off. La dee dah, isn't this fun! We're kid friendly!" Just such a load of bullshit.

Anyways I just wanted to see what all you lovely folks out there thought of it and see if I can stir up some conversation.

Disney-fied rant: (You can skip this if you really want, I've just been getting really pissed of at this, especially lately.)

basically I am sick and tired of always hearing people going on about the original story of Cinderella or insert famous Disney fairy tale here, and then starting to rattle on about singing mice and dancing brooms and <insert any other object here>. Especially with the whole Alice in wonderland thing lately. Where I'll be talking to people and I'll say something like "It's a sequel to Alice in Wonderland, yadda yadda whatever" and then they'll immediately jump to the Disney Alice in Wonderland. It's like we have lost ability to remember a time before Disney and anything that Disney has done (in regards to reusing a pre-existing thing, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella etc. etc.) instantly becomes the only canon that people can remember. It just absolutely pisses me off.

Anyways, that's all i had to say on that.

Wow thats a long post hmm

Well I just saw this movie, (As part of a self made double feature with Alice In Wonderland actually) and I frickin LOOOOOOOOVED it!!

It was great! Albeit yes, it was sorta your typical fairy tale plot line-ish, but with a little Dreamworks twist in there of course, and I think it really works.

And as far as other animated films go, It depends on the film, but on the whole I'm usually a fan.

I just re listened to the Reloaded Rewritten and totally remembered how bad-ass it was, and really want to know how it ends!

I hate that movie so fucking much I can feel an ulcer coming on just typing this.

I honestly can't say how I feel about it. I just feel lost... it's not hate or love or anything just a lostness, a hopeless void of understanding.

But from the sounds of you 2 it could make for a really interesting commentary.

Btw, Go Adaptation! Thinking of which I'm gonna go add it to the movie requests.

I'm totally with Teague on this one.

And that might actually explain to some extent why I like Inglorious Basterds as much as I do.

And on another note, I'll also throw Stranger Than Fiction into the hat. Probably one of the only performances I actually enjoyed Will Ferrell in. And honestly Maggie Gyllenhaal ain't to shabby either.

Although if I'm gonna be honest I can't really pin it down if it's more for Anne Hathaway or for Cary Elwes. hmm

Alright Dorkman, I gotta get this out.

Why is it that whenever people are discussing this topic, they always mange to bring up the fact that the wi-fi things would need some kind of hardware, and then the whole hardware vs. software things pops up and whatever. Yet they always manage to conveniently forget that every single human released from the Matrix, was grown, FROM BIRTH, with technology implanted into them. Literally running in their veins. I mean there has to be a reason why the plugs can't simply be removed right?

So the way I always saw it (And keep in mind, I never personally had a problem with this plot point, due to the line of reasoning I'm explaining), was that because the machine technology is so literally part of what makes the humans up, (because if the machines can breed humans, we can probably pretty safely assume that they might include some additional hardware to make a connection to the matrix a little easier (Last I checked just stabbing a frickin syringe into the back of your head didn't do much for your health. Let alone get you onto the internet.)

So then, we could pretty safely assume, that this technology, that is already present inside Neos physical body, could be activated by the "one's software" (Or one could say it's simply Neo discovering his own abilities outside the Matrix, and finally accessing the power of his own mind to use the physical tools the machines gave him while he was still connected to the matrix) and therefore be used to connect, even in a somewhat rudimentary way to the Matrix, or even to a lesser extent simply to those Sentinels (since the were in such close range, Neo could have just hacked his way into their Wi-Fi connection and fed them some phony commands).

Call it what you will, but that's how I always saw it going down.
