The movie stunk but Relic did have a badass creature design.

So the mysterious people that inhabit the world of Terra Nova beyond the fence barrier are called "The Sixers"? Why? I understand the moniker "Others" for the mysterious people in LOST because they're other people not part of the main group. Unlike that situation, this doesn't make any sense. Are they six years old? Are they six feet tall? Are there only six of them? Did they successfully collect all six Dragonballs? What's the deal?

Best case scenario? It turns out it's the basketball team, complete with a time traveling Doctor J.

On listening to this one, I was amused to hear myself say Terra Nova was a bad concept, and then later say there's no such thing as a bad concept.   lol

My intended point was that "People go back in time and live with dinosaurs" may sound like a fully-realized concept, but in actual practice it's not as much of a slam-dunk as it seems.  As evidenced by the Terra Nova episodes thus far - every one has had to contrive some reason for the characters to leave the safety of their walled, sonic-cannon protected community, just to give them an excuse to bump into a dinosaur in the first place.  To put it perspective, if Terra Nova was a show about a family that went to live on the Serengeti, they'd have to be pretty stupid and/or unlucky to get chased by lions every goddam week.

But to be fair, the core Terra Nova concept might have worked, just with a different approach.   For example, nobody at Terra Nova wanted to go hang out with dinosaurs, the time-whatsis just happens to dump them into the Cretaceous.   So naturally, the first thing they did was build a big wall to keep dinosaurs out of their tomato gardens.   But the show could have started earlier in Terra Nova's history, before the wall was even up.  You could get at least a few episodes of hot dino-action outa that.

And it sure would be nice if the colonists had a reason to HAVE to interact with the dinos every week.  Hell, at least Jurassic Park had that - the main characters were paleontologists.  So even though they knew it was dangerous, they WANTED to go poke the dinosaurs.  From what I've seen, Terra Nova doesn't have dino experts on staff at all - presumably all those slots were taken up by teenage guitar-strumming Twilight stand-ins.

Anyway, I retract the statement "Terra Nova was a bad concept", and hereby replace it with "Terra Nova is a terrible execution of a concept, and your mom's a whore."

Thank you for ripping on Terra Nova. I have no intentions to ever watch the show but the trailers alone  made me roll my eyes. It's such a blatant attempt at throwing together separate successful franchises. While a hybrid of Avatar, Jurassic Park and LOST could work, it sure as shit ain't gonna happen on a television budget. South Park decided to take a jab at the show a few weeks back. This is from Stan's new found perspective where everything in pop culture appears as literal shit to him:

Every movie after the first one sucked. It might be impossible to replace Clancy Brown but I imagine a higher budgeted and bloodier Highlander could surpass the original. I can't think of a director to helm a reboot off the top of my head though.

Television. An all encompassing discussion including television budgets, network vs. cable, favorite shows, the development and production differences and similarities between shows and films; all of that shit and maybe even more. I've heard DiF talk about movies for hours upon hours and while that rules, I would love for the gang to weigh in on television for a solid half-hour.

I haven't seen season 4 because my only means of watching the show is on Netflix.  That said, this show is awesome, I shouldn't have held out on it as long as I did and once again Ewing is right about awesome TV.

Though he does like LOST and I have serious doubts I'll ever successfully enjoy that show.

We were talking not too long ago about how awesome a Dexter/Breaking Bad crossover would be.  I might write that fanfic.

I loved LOST up until the final season and then it squandered almost all of my good faith. I can't say I hate the show's entirety, but it went from a love to a regretted liking. I still highly recommend the first season just for the pair of Locke centric episodes at the very least. That's not to say the other seasons aren't enjoyable but most of them involve a gigantic leap in terms of themes and concepts from the first season. On top of that, almost all the cool shit introduced isn't fully resolved until the last season and even then it turns out most of it was all part of a bigger thing that wasn't nearly as satisfying. However, even if LOST had an amazing final season, it would still probably pale in comparison to Breaking Bad and The Wire.

You remember that drunken phone call I made to you at like 3 am in the morning back in June? Even my boozed up mind was able to comprehend and recommend Breaking Bad. Oh and if you want Season 4, I can hook you up.

After tonight's finale, I can safely say that Breaking Bad is the greatest story of either book, film or television that I am ever going to experience. I cannot wait for the final season. I need to go freeze myself up in the mountains like Cartman did for the Nintendo Wii.

There were a bunch of threads on various message boards trying to break down the story and metaphors and stuff when the film came out. One in particular stuck out to me because it was incredibly deranged yet plausible too. I can't find exact post at the moment, so here's the gist of it:

The insane asylum world is the real world. The burlesque parlor world is Sweat Pea's broken psyche's rationalization of the real world. "Dancing" in the burlesque world equates to sex in the real world. Anytime a girl is dancing, she is screwing an orderly in reality. Thus, when Baby Doll is dancing to distract guards, she is actually getting banged by an orderly while the other girls are doing their part in acquiring maps or whatever. The crazy insane fantasy worlds with German zombies and robots are Baby Doll's way of dealing with the rape in the asylum. The entire film is essentially about a bunch of mental patients coping with the sexual abuse from orderlies and doctors by imaging dream scenarios where they're free.

I didn't think it was complete shit but it wasn't good either. An entirely forgettable mediocre to average film. The best thing I can say about it is that the set design was impressively realistic.

As far as production values go, it's pretty damn good. The prop laser rifle is spot fucking on. I do agree it needs to be darker though. Fallout has a brilliant blend of dark as shit subject matter and gallows humor that this short lacks. Regardless, it's still pretty good though.
