@Eddie - Great post, really informative. It does certainly seem to be more of a philosophy to live by as opposed to a religion. It seems quite interesting, so I may do some reading up on it. Thanks for clearing things up!

I went to Catholic school where I wore a uniform, had to pray and sing hymns - but religious schools are pretty much the only option round these parts and in my experience it wasn't particularly 'strict'. Did that have an effect on me becoming an atheist? Totally, but only because its how I learnt all about the church and its teachings. But I wouldn't necessarily say I had any bad experiences related to my time at school, if anything it was mostly positive - I just saw the whole religious part of it to be a bit of a waste of time.
Eddie, you say Buddhism isn't a religion whereas I have always just assumed it was. My knowledge of Buddhism pretty much is 'That one that seems chilled out and doesn't cause any trouble', so I wouldn't mind learning a bit more about it.
I've started reading Rinzler's book too. I'm not that far in to it, but I am enjoying it so far. I only read the paperback edition of The Making of Star Wars, so I missed out on all the cool concept art and behind-the-scenes photos.
I forgot there was a US version of that. If you liked that, you may wanna check out the British Shameless. It ran for eleven series, but I stopped watching around the third or fourth when it started to focus on different characters.
@fireproof78 - Doesn't sound pretentious at all, sounds more like a great way to spend Christmas to me!
@BDA - I agree, the narration was one of the high points for me. Although, I'm not familiar with the guy who did it and thought it was Adam West for a little while.
@PorridgeGun - Ho Ho Ho Selecta, yes!
I think it's one of those things where I just bought in to the hype too much. Maybe there's some cultural context I'm missing, or it's one of those that works much better when you grow up with it - but it just didn't really hit me as a seminal Christmas movie. I mean, for something called A Christmas Story - it doesn't really get very Christmassy until half of the way through!
For what it's worth though, I was still grinning like a madman by the end of it.
I watched both Elf and A Christmas Story for the first time tonight. I found myself really enjoying Elf a lot more than I thought I would, but A Christmas Story didn't do it for me as much.
So, it's that time of year where I like to binge on anything and everything Christmassy. But instead of watching the same old stuff this year, I've decided to branch out a bit and look for some things I mightn't have watched before. So, although we covered Christmas movies last week on the Extended Edition (*cough*listen*cough*), I thought I'd bring the topic here.
What are YOUR favourite things to watch over Christmas? I'm a sucker for pretty much anything to do with Christmas and aside from the classics, I love the Hanna Barbera Christmas specials and any sort of sitcom Christmas special.
Ravenclaw in the house!
Gotta say, I quite like the look of this.
This web team business sounds intriguing, I'm in.
It's hard for me to list mine as I've only seen/read each once and not really thought about ranking or anything. This seems sensible though.
1. Prisoner of Azkaban
2. Deathy Hallows
3. Philosophers Stone
4. Chamber of Secrets
5. Half-Blood Prince
6. Goblet of Fire
7. Order of the Phoenix
EDIT: Reshuffled my choices during the livestream.

Also,...
How can all three have the same Screwdriver? When the 10th's was destroyed when the TARDIS crashed (The TARDIS then gave 11th a new one), and then 10th's was given to River to use in The Library.![]()
Same software, different case. The idea presented is that the TARDIS makes new designs, but that the software itself is the safe throughout.
I like Mallrats.
Come at me.
For all the stick it supposedly gets, I've never actually met anybody who doesn't like it.
I'm a little bit confused about the continuity here.
So, The End of Time pretty clearly established that Gallifrey was time-locked, right? So why does the Doctor think that he destroyed the planet and killed all of them when he knows that they're still out there? Can someone do a concise explanation of what exactly happened with the Time War, given what we learned in this new special?
I'll try my best, aha. Chronology can be tricky with time travel, but here's my understanding.
EDIT: Regarding the time lock, the events of the Time War themselves are still locked, it was The Moment that allowed the Doctors to pass through it. After they seal Gallifrey, it should no longer be bound by the time lock and is now out there waiting to be found.
Hope that helped!
I'd love to see Ison, or any comet for that matter. Damn you light pollution!

SPOILERSo the whole idea of "spin the wheel, you'll NEVER know what you're gonna get" is pretty much just a nuwho thing they have to retconn with the classic who mythology?

Doctor - I never forget a face
Curator - I know you don't. And in years to come you might find yourself revisiting a few, but just the old favorites, eh?SPOILERExcept that goes against everything we know about regeneration, unless he has a vacation home on the planet of the sisters whatsherfaces and can choose who he wants to be every time. Unless I'm missing something else entirely. And thank you Faldor, that's really all I needed. I had no clue who that was or why it was such a big deal.

My interpretation.
As he said though, 'Who knows?'. It's a nice little mystery that will likely never be fully resolved.

This is a common complaint with OOTP. I had the same problem with it until I realized that was the point, and decided it was kind of brilliant. Will elaborate on the ep.
Looking forward to hearing it. Anything that challenges my view on it is good.
Owen, I'm becoming not an expert on Potter, but a semi-expert on the Potter fandom this week. (I'm hearing all the Big Opinions and Divides from among the hardcore fans in these interviews I'm doin.') OotP comes up a lot as being a book people strongly dislike, and it's usually attributed to Harry being kind of an emo bitch in that book, being all dark and rock-bottom-y.
I don't have an opinion on this myself, I need to re-read it to see how I feel, but that opinion has come up a couple times.
That's quite interesting to hear as I thought I was the odd one out in that respect. Possibly because when I brought it up during the time of 'Pottermania', people didn't really wanna hear anything negative said. I'm not so sure if it was 'emo Harry' that was the problem for me, it more just felt like nothing interesting was really happening.
I think it's airing tomorrow for people over the pond. BBC America for the States and Space for Canada.

I guess you could say I have a weird relationship with Harry Potter. I loved it at the start, hated it around the middle and found myself falling back in love with it near the end. But because I 'abandoned Harry' partway through, I don't really think I have the same level attachment that a lot of other people in my generation do.
I started reading the books around the time Goblet of Fire was published. I loved the first three (and still do), but the fourth not so much. When Order of the Phoenix came out, I was really excited to pick it up, but after reading it I pretty much gave up on the Harry Potter series.
Some years later when Deathly Hallows was released, I went along to a midnight launch with some of my friends who were big fans. I was not really too fussed when I got there but by the end I bought in to the hype. I ended up reading and loving the shit out of the book, so I went back and read the sixth for the first time and bloody well loved that too.
I'm not sure exactly why the middle of the series didn't do it for me, I've never went back for a second go. Maybe I should?
I watched it with a couple of friends, one of which has never really watched Doctor Who and we were all reeling in the feels by the end. If you've not watched this already, do it now!
