Reading Double Down the story of the 2012 US Presidential Election.  Also, Reza Aslan's Zealot a summation of the historical Jesus through the lens of a Zion revolutionary.  Both are interesting.

I actually intended to bring up Cosmos, but ran out of time.  That was a hugely important show to me, and the new version, provided it lives up to my high expectations, will be seen by Grayson NOW.

There is also an availability divide. Our house did not have cable until both us kids were in college. Thus, no nick, no disney channel. We DID get Fraggle Rock, as it was a HBO and CBC coproduction and thus was available on Canadian TV. Other than that, if it wasn't syndicated or on a broadcast network, we didn't see it. We got a VCR in the mid-80's, when both of us were in high school.

My father used to tell the story of how, when Sesame Street started, one of his fellow teachers refused to let his own kids watch it because it had Black kids playing with the Whites. Dad had his own issues, but he took it as a point of pride that he wasn't THAT bad!

I gave you a MAJOR shout out in the episode and THIS is what you post first with!?!?!

Sesame Street is in it's 42nd year and just as relevant as it always was.  Fraggle Rock was very much born of the eighties.  I grew up with a ton of Nickelodeon stuff too, but it was the original Nick stuff like You Can't Do That on Television, Pinwheel, and as I mentioned, Mr. Wizard.

Azkaban is #1 for both of my lists.

We talked a bit about ZD30 in the Best/Worst of 2012 episode.  I was kinda lukewarm on it and I think one or two others were as well.  But Eddie might have a more interesting perspective on it.

I'm not so sure that I do.  Factually interesting, performed well, a few very harrowing setpieces.....and....that's it.

The HBO Documentary MANHUNT I found far more compelling.

Have you ever thought about doing a full commentary on a documentary?  Might be quite interesting

We debated this, which is what led to one of our sub podcasts hosted by me, Documentality.  We've done 3 episodes so far, give one a listen.

I'd be down.

FILM Independent just announced nominees for the Spirit Awards.  Best Doc nom's are:

Act of Killing
After Tiller (doc about the 4 remaining doctors who perform late term abortions
Gideon's Army (REALLY good film, about young public defenders in Mississippi)
20 Feet From Stardom (total Teague Bait.  Doc about backup singers)
The Square (really solid doc about Arab Spring)

Clerks is solid, Chasing Amy is decent but doesn't hold up well.  Track down his script for SUPERMAN LIVES.  It's surprisingly decent.

The full menu is complete.  I'm seriously going to be pushing myself from a culinary standpoint with this one.

Agreed.  Tell us more.  Like, is your attributed author name, "Invid Fan,"?

Not usually the best way to first-watch a film, with us (or anyone) yammering over it, but I'm not gonna argue with you since you're making the food. You do you bro.

You've read the book, though?

I've absolutely read all the books at least once.  I just think it might be fun to try to make sense of it visually while sleep deprived.

Confession time...

Still haven't seen Deathly Hallows part II.

Here's what I'm thinking:

I WON'T see it before the commentary.  At 20 hours straight, and cooking literally all damn day, I want to watch it for the first time and see how it plays for me in real time.  Thoughts?

He hadn't said *that*. Wouldn't that conflict have been resolved when looking at the dailies?

Long ass story.  He's happy with what he got, but some choices boxed him in.  Thus, the longer time in the edit to address them.

Also, good to see some more movement on this.

Yeah, I'm not sure of what Erwann has or hasn't said, but the DP had quite a bit of a different vision than Erwann had hoped for.

What sort of VFX?

A bit of blood roto, background darkening, light effects, a design to add the POV of a character who got knocked silly that isn't cliche'd.

Ideally, I'd like a VFX lead who can farm out some simple shots to a bunch of people but keep the design uniform. It's a short film, only 8-10 minutes total I think.

The wand duel that let me down SO HARD YOU GUYS was the one in Order of the Phoenix between Voldemort and Dumbledore.  In the book it's not only epic but what they do is so appropriate to their characters.  Dumbledore is every bit a badass, but he also displays his imagination and whimsy, to the benefit of the combat.  Once I saw that scene I just sorta had a bad feeling that none of the wand duels to come were going to live up to the text.

Damn, best woman ever.

And she's not even like a huge movie nerd or anything.  There's quite a bit I watch that she doesn't get into.  But I introduced her to Godfather and she LOVES it now.

I'm very much aware of it.  Also planning a couple special guest interviews for at least two interviews.
