I'm indifferent to the title as well. It's not bad, it's not good, it doesn't affect my anticipation of the film one way or the other. It's not pulpy enough, though. My Star Wars can always stand to be pulpier. Like my orange juice.

Ah, so it's one of those "if we don't explain anything, people will think it's deep" movies? smile

No, I have a feeling that the filmmakers have a relatively clear idea of what it's about, and that they think it is communicated by the movie. And I think I see what they're going for (broadly speaking).
I just also think it would be a shame if they clarified it, because, as it stands, for reasons that are difficult to explain*, it's open to multiple interpretations, most of which support roughly the same ideology.

*the best analogy I can come up with is:
1-1+1-1+1-1
Is that 0? Or is it -4, or is it -2? Or something else?

So, I enjoyed both movies. No, they're not nearly as good as LOTR, for many, many reasons. But I can enjoy them as part of the Middle-Earth history--instead of getting mad--because of this shameless retconning:

The Hobbit is "written" by Bilbo Baggins. He's far more fanciful and dramatic than Frodo, who "wrote" the Lord of the Rings. This character difference is obvious even in their portrayal in LOTR, and is highlighted by Bilbo's introduction in the first Hobbit film: the dwarf kingdom is not the greatest kingdom of Middle-Earth, but he kinda makes it out to be. This is to be expected from someone telling his own story and that of his best friends.

LOTR is far more grounded and "real" because it was written by the pragmatic Frodo (with additions by Sam), and therefore is a far more accurate account of events, with much less of the drama and embellishment contained in the Hobbit. This allows me to enjoy the Hobbit movies as fanciful tales (as, indeed, the book was), and the Lord of the Rings as more realistic "history."

Sure, movies are movies, and if it's a bad movie, it's bad. But I like 'em, and can preclude disappointment by remembering the above. After all, I really don't care for the book Hobbit, while LOTR is awesome. So there you go.

Well said. That is what I have felt since Unexpected Journey, and continue to think so, especially after watching the Extended Edition of DOS.

And, way to almost convince BDA of the positives of the film wink

Thank you, Saniss! Models of this sort are among my favorite aspects of production work.

Edit:

Looks at the Death Star model:

So, I just powered through this episode right before work and it was really fun. Looking forward to watching "Phantom of Paradise" and then listening to you guys talk about it, so thank you Trey.

Given all that has happened, this was a lot of fun. Thanks guys!

It occurs to me that we have a rare opportunity here.  What scenario should we have ready for when Mike wakes up?

I'm trying to decide between 28 Days Later and Planet of the Apes, but leaning toward the latter because getting ape masks probably will be easier than convincing the Cedars-Sinai staff to temporarily abandon the entire floor of the hospital.

So, I saw this and wished I had had it as an answer to Trey's question:

I was about to say, we may cross a line here from the practical joke to cruelty a little bit too quickly.

Also, Ben, I (for good or ill) use jokes and sarcasm to sometimes deal with difficult situations. The good news is encouraging me to be a little more sarcastic.

Given Ebola being in the news, a Contagion scenario would be far more believable, and easier to acquire equipment.

By the way, is pranking someone coming out of a coma a new thing?

Mike's family and boyfriend are fucking champions, by the way.

I'm glad you mentioned that.  The big takeaway from me that evening, outside of actually seeing Mike, was seeing Mike's dad.  He was obviously in shock, obviously torn apart inside, but he had such dignity to him and was so appreciative of us being there.  The strength of that man is almost incomprehensible.

As I mentioned on twitter, my son Ryker was born on Friday.  After I left the hospital and saw Mike that first night, I came home and instinctually my wife knew how shook up I was, and without saying a word, put my son in my arms.  It was absolutely what I needed, and I just wept.  I wept because I thought of Mike's Dad, and how unnatural and fucking horrid it is to contemplate the notion that you will outlive your child.  I thought of how absolutely in love with both my sons I am, even the one I just met four days prior.  Four days, and the thought of anything happening to him..I can't even type it.  Mike is a grown man, and an outstanding one at that (obviously, which is why we're all here), and if my boys grow into half the man that he is, it'll be a flawless victory of parenting.  So for Mike Sr. to be there that night, processing it with the rest of us, and still be on his feet and to be as gracious and kind to us as he was, is the kind of miracle that doesn't get celebrated enough.

So yeah, the fact that Mike has been clawing and scratching his way this far in such a short period of time is extraordinary, but not surprising.  It's not surprising because we see that strength from his father, mother, brother, and sister.  I have no way of knowing if I'm that strong, but they inspire inspire strength in me, and I think I can safely say, all of us.

Well said, Eddie. As a parent, I can't imagine that pain of his parents, or the rest of his family and boyfriend. But, you framed in a way that made it quite parable, and, I'll not lie, tear up. But, well said, regardless.

clap

Hey, Teague or anyone living near Dorkman,

is there a PO box or address that could be showed publicly for sending letters, cards and the like?

I understand that if you don't want it shared so everyone can see, but I would like to be able to send some cheer by mail.

Again, hang in there, guys. We love you!

Next Intermission, can you drop the pretense and just call it "Things That Annoy Trey"?

I still think that if they ever wanted to do some sort of fundraiser, going through the episodes and editing together a "Story Time With Trey" episode would be a good idea smile

I approve both of these messages. Battleship is still one of my favorite Intermissions as I wouldn't wish that movie viewing experience on anyone, especially Trey. Also, My Favorite Martian was incredibly enjoyable because of Trey's stories.

So, yes please big_smile

+1 for mentioning that movie. I must now go watch it...because wink

Also, enjoyed this episode, though I'm sure Hollywoodites (whatever the term is) get tired of wondering what film they did/done/will do. But, I find the line of work so incredibly fascinating, that even basic stuff is new to me.

However, I don't feel the need to describe the day to day goings on at a sporting goods retailer. You might not find that as interesting, nor could I make a movie out it wink

So, thank you for sharing! Also, good luck to Trek with all his projects.
