If you haven't seen full episodes of JGL's new show, I think its definitely worth watching.

So Pixar is going to get in on the Star Wars act. Thinking about it now, it seems a little obvious that this was going to happen. I found the Clone Was show to be entertaining at times, but hopefully Pixar will do a little better job of story telling. I'm curious to see how the look will change.

Is anyone familiar with the significance of the stag as a symbol? It seems to show up in lots of different fantasy settings, most notably Game of Thrones, and Lion the Witch and Wardrobe. It seems to stand for heroism, or nobility, but when I really think of a deer, I don't think of those traits.

This looks very interesting. I think I will try to seek it out. I hope they out it on Netflix. I have never sat down to watch a Bollywood movie, but I am willing to give this one a chance.

Also, right now is the time when WB, PJ and several other initials are being sued over The Hobbit and profits. I think it must be the season. There is a lot of legal problems going on, regardless of the artistic conflict, so I don't see any other Tolkien films being done. Strangely, I am ok with that. I know many here don't like the Hobbit, and I completely understand Christopher Tolkien's objections, since his father voiced similar ones when animated adaptations of LOTR were being done. CT will always have the books and his father's imaginings but changes to it will never be understood.

I know I am in the minority for liking the Hobbit around here, but artistic variation, especially in book adaptations is just par for the course, in my opinion. If I ever write a book and want an adaptation, I have no doubt that I will struggle with similar opinions smile

I really liked the Hobbit, also.

Did you miss the part where this happens all the time? There is nothing new here. If anything, it's another reason studios should never make a movie based on something they don't own.

Right, I just don't understand why it happens all the time. If you have a very successful book, and a studio is interested in making it a movie, where are the lawyers screaming in the author's ears pointing out what the studios have done in the past.

A very interesting, and sad article. I've heard you guys talk about this practice in the past, and it doesn't make sense to me in buisness sense. Why would the studio so clearly screw people like this? After doing this, who would be willing to let you adapt their work ever again? I can't see why anyone would let WB put their work on film.

I'm all about new sci-fi coming to theaters, but Cruise seems to be really cranking these things out one after another these days with Oblivion coming out this year. It looks interesting. They got me curious of where they plan to go with the time travel element.

On second look and consideration, I hadn't realized so many other franchizes had put a twist on the assassination. But I agree with you guys, the timing is what is suspect.

The subject of using real news footage in fictional movies has been brought up by Trey before, and I think this might be on level terms with that, if not worse. The website shows how Magneto is partially responsible for the assasination of President Kennedy, and later on implies that Oswald was impersonated by Mystique. I guess this is not that different from what Watchmen did, but I just don't think this is right, or necessary. I also find the timing of this rather suspect as well. With all the documentaries about JFK being broadcasted on the History channel, and National Geographic right now, it seems like the movie's marketing people are really taking advantage of the assasination's anniversary.

I think I am going to seek this out. Say what you want about Keanu, he has experience in this area. The plot looks pretty generic for a Matrial Arts movie, but the fight scenes look like they could be awesome which is why you see this kind of movie anyway. Limited release of course. I would really hope Dorkman gets a chance to review this. I think he would have a great perspective on it.

I'm a big fan of stand-up comedy, and this blows my mind. Kaufman sure had his own style, and from what of I've seen of him I would describe him as always a character. He seemed like he was always putting on a persona whether he was on stage or not. If this turns out to be true, I am blown away that we live in a world where the internet is the entity that it is, and this has not been uncovered until now.

Back to the Future II:

Marty: "You're not gonna believe this. We have to go back to 1955"
Doc: "I don't believe it!"
Marty: "That's right, Doc. November 12th, 1955."
Doc: "Unbelievable that Old Biff could've chosen that particular date. It could mean that that point in time inherently contains some sort of cosmic significance, almost as if it were the temporal junction point of the entire space-time continuum. On the other hand, it could just be an amazing coincidence."

Huh? This is joke; it has to be. Or some guys did it on a dare. Or this is exactly the kind of movie we expect Hollywood to spit out in January. As silly as this looks, the 13 year old me that lives in a back corner of my brain is going, "This will be awesome!" I don't know, maybe even 13 year old me would see through the bullshit of this one. I would gues this still won't be as bad as the Robocop remake.

During his talk he speaks on the Bechdel test, and gives perspective on showing movies to his daughter and son, especially the Wizard of Oz, and Star Wars.

He gives a criticism of Star Wars that I haven't really thought about before. While Leia is fairly positive female character, she really only serves to send the men off to fight, and then reward them when they return.

The other thing that this talk made me think about is how valuable is the Bechdel test really? A movie could have a strong positive female character, but doesn't interact with any other female characters because it doesn't serve the story, Alien 3 for an example. Now, Sucker Punch, Prometheus, and Thor do pass the test, but they are movies that fail completely in other areas, and could even be misogynistic in places. So what good is this test? It is a little interesting, but in the end I think it really doesn't tell you anything.

I do think the point of his talk still has some validity, but I think its more about what should we be showing our kids, at what age, instead of what is being made in Hollywood, overall.

Who is that supposed to appeal to? Why are you interested in it, Eddie?

There are lots of table top gamers out there. I would imagine many times they don't have much choice in who they play with, because it would be hard to find others to play with. That means sometimes having to interact with certain people who you wouldn't normally ever associate with just to enjoy a hobby you want to participate in. I would imagine it appeals to anyone who's been in a situation where you've just wanted to scream at people, "you just don't get it!" Interacting with people who don't share your passion, or on the flip side, observing people who have a passion for something that doesn't make sense to you, I think are pretty common life experiences.
