To Eddie: I live in Sacramento.

I have been watching Avatar at work (my job is boring) and am almost done with it now.  Amazing show.  Funny, touching, and with characters who develop!  On a kids' show!  I so very doubt the movie will be able to capture the same tone.

Fair enough.  If I couldn't win a fight, I wasn't supposed to be stubborn and put my own safety on the line.  Like you guys said in the commentary, if a guy has a gun, knife, or I don't think there is a good chance to win, I would get the hell out of there.

I take that to heart generally, though.  I've been in situations that could have become fights very quickly, but I have always managed to either talk my way out or simply get away.

Man, I really need to get back into it.  Ever since I moved, I haven't found a dojo I liked.

My master was referring to a fight in self-defense.  As in, someone attacks me (someone without training), and I should be able to end things quickly.

Sparring matches and tournaments were completely different.

^ Black belt is very interesting.  I liked it a lot.

This was an interesting commentary, a lot of good information.  I did karate for the majority of my young life, so it's interesting listening to hear you guys discuss all of the different martial arts and your experiences.  My training was very focused on practicality and real world fighting skills, so I've rarely been able to impress anyone with how I look when I fight.  My master always said that we'd fought poorly if we took more than 2 hits before ending the fight.

The theatrical is the only one of Blu-Ray, afaik.  Shame, as I quite like the added scenes from the DVD.

CTHD was one of my favorite films for a long time... but it has dropped a bit in the last few years.  I still think the chick fight is one of the best I've ever seen, and the overall atmosphere of the film (mostly thanks to the score) is phenomenal.

It seems a lot slower now than when I first loved it.

I'm sure it's been said, but I would LOVE to see the first Ninja Turtles.

4.5

Loved this movie from my first view.  I was quick to see it as a story told by the Spartans rather than anything having to do with history.  The action sequences are beautiful and breathtaking, and I actually quite enjoy the over-the-top dialog.  It all makes for a movie that is non-stop fun.

I am clearly in the minority here.  I absolutely love 300.

I remember really enjoying Constantine and not being quite sure why it got so universally panned.

I think most people (generalization warning!) go to movies to escape and witness beautiful and wonderful things.  The story is very simple and to a lot of people, if they completely "get" it, then it was good.

I've only seen it once, in IMAX, back in December.  I knew going in that the script was weak, so I prepared for spectacle.

Due to me expectations, I was quite pleased.  The visuals and scope were fantastic, the pace was fine simply because I enjoyed just SEEING everything that was put before me.  On an 8 story screen with some of the best sound the world has to offer, I thought it was one of the most fun movie going experiences I'd had in a very long time.

Now, however, I can't really see ever watching it again.  Maybe just once more to show off my TV to some friends and to take in the visuals one more time... but this movie felt completely like a call back to the Cinema of Attractions.

Magic was on the screen and that was enough.

Last note:  I do remember one of my first thoughts was why the film didn't have a more memorable score.  You'd think with something like this they would have wanted an iconic theme that would go down with the likes of Star Wars.

It's pretty much going to be a bitch-fest on Avatar, isn't it?

Dammit, now I have to go to work!  Alas, it will wait for tomorrow...
