Very cool - you'll have to let us know if it keeps the same effect with the Spanish audio.

Oops, kinda forgot to post this. This is Katyusha, our newest family member, who we've had for a bit over a month now.

Cool! I've made some posts on Facebook groups to have a meetup near me next week, would love a huge group of people for the final shot, so hoping a lot get involved. Would hope to keep music stuff on FIYH though smile I'll update the first post with who can do what and everyone can coordinate here. So far we've got Owen on vocals; Tom, what can you provide?

Music is what I'm hoping, yeah, but we can try to figure out what's possible. I already have a solid plan for filming it and it's pretty well mentally storyboarded. I can start editing to the original music, and if you're able to so something for music, that can be added in. If you're unable to do something on the guitar, I know someone who composes music that might be interested that you could then provide vocals for, but I don't think he's that much of a fan.

Owen, you mentioned interest in the chat box in working on this. You're based out of the UK, right? (I say as a formality, had to use the user lookup and, on a work computer mind, type in "queefward".) I'm in the eastern US. What's the latest time on a weeknight you might be able to talk over Skype or something to see what we can figure out? I'll be doing preproduction with Steph on Thursday and it'd be cool to have you in on that.

Asked the question, but it got buried in the chat box pretty quickly.

I'm planning on making a Pokémon GO video for my YouTube channel pretty soon, just a music video sorta thing with my wife Steph running around Saratoga or wherever catching Pokémon on her phone. (For those who are out of the loop or not on social media where you'd be drowning in it, GO is a bona fide phenomenon. We were at the park last night after dark and literally the only people there were roving bands of Pokémon trainers, over two dozen in total, so I think the video would go over very well.)

I'm planning on setting it to the theme music from the original anime (you know, "I wanna be the very best / Like no one ever was!"). But before I just go and nab the original recording, I was wondering if any of you guys either A) have recorded it already and would be willing to let me use it, or B) would be interested in recording it. I'm looking to have the video done by the end of the month at the latest; ideally doing preproduction with Steph this week and shooting next week, editing as I go.

So yeah, let me know if you're interested!

So far:
Owen: Vocals
Tom

Yes, absolutely good for next week.

Considering I recorded my part as a full a capella arrangement... (Not nearly as nice as this. If I knew any audio mixing I'd probably release just my stuff on my own at this point, but still.)

Any word on resurrecting this?

All signs point to me being on tonight. Anyone else?

EDIT: Update that to a maybe.

EDIT 2: And now I guess we're all going to the movies? So no. I am so confused but rolling with it.

Heh, thanks. People that want more can ask through PM where I'll provide a frustratingly vague background and update. In the meantime I know I'm definitely on for the week after.

Hey all. Sorry to say that I don't know if I'm on for this week. My wife's friend who I had a falling out with is over this weekend and I don't know if we'll be on friendly talking terms or if it'll turn out best that we ignore each other. If the latter I'll be on, but I hope you don't take offense that I'm hoping for the former.

You wouldn't be able to call it "ID4", but I think a theoretical movie about an alien invasion where you spend the entire thing with an old guy and a bus full of now-orphaned children trying to survive could have been a far better movie.

I haven't seen ID4:R but what you described sounds like it'd be at home in Lucifer's Hammer.

Oh man I couldn't even imagine.

Your gun is knocked out before the first big drop, so aside from targets in the hangar there's nothing really to be scored on. (I'm thinking compared to the Men in Black ride at Universal Studios Florida.)

My boss and I spitballed the idea of a video souvenir of your ride that's similar to what we produced, like a photo but with video of you and what you were seeing. It'd take a lot of setup though - a video feed from the goggles, a pinhole camera set in front of you (easy for the rear two seats in each car, more of a pain for the front two), instantly synced and put together to buy on a flash drive or a Dropbox link or something. We determined it'd be a complicated setup and would require tooling from the ground up, but would be VERY cool, and would cost significantly more than an in-ride photo. But you know enough people would pay ten or even twenty bucks to make it worth it.

Another article, this one from the Albany Times-Union. And a different set of riders in their attached video, with a curse that got past the filters at the first small drop after the lift.

Not quite sure. I don't think so, but without the headset you can see the track comfortingly in front of you ready to pull you out of it. In the sim... heh heh.

A somewhat more full and vocal train from the day of, including, among others, a writer from the Glens Falls Post-Star.

Very cool! Any reports of increased motion sickness with the headset on? I feel like my head would be spinning after that.

Interesting question. I didn't notice any and nobody mentioned anything about it, and they were pretty candid about comparisons (noise level, early issues with headsets coming off or being uncomfortable since this coaster is the roughest to get the VR makeover). In the video you can catch a moment on my face that a recently-eaten breakfast wrap tries to make itself known (after the corkscrew), but a second run without the headset yielded the same effect.

The sensations are different - going up the slope feels like a vertical rise since that's what you see in the video, the corkscrew doesn't feel as corkscrewy, and the hard stop at the end feels like you're still moving forward slightly as in the VR you're still approaching the carrier. When you emerge from the hangar and you can see sun pouring around you, you actually feel it on the back of your neck. (It was a cloudy day.) It messes with perception in an amazing way but I don't think it's to a big negative effect. VR can and does screw with people but on a 90 second ride it's the sensation of the coaster that's the big factor, not VR motion sickness.

If I had to guess, I'd say there's a tradeoff - in VR you can't see the track ahead of you so you're not ready for it, but some people may feel it worse as they see the loops ahead of them. Also, the Gear VR doesn't have great peripheral vision so that helps keep some of the immersion, and motion sickness, down.

I really wanted an Oculus Rift before. This experience has split my thoughts on that - it made me want one more, but I also know that without the physical sensation of being tossed around at 45MPH it won't be *quite* the same.

Hey guys! So I generally don't post about my exploits at work but today was too awesome. We participated in the Media Day for Six Flags Great Escape's new roller coaster, The New Revolution. It takes the park's 35 year old Screamin' Demon, adds Samsung Gear VR headsets, and puts you in a fighter jet fighting aliens in a crowded cityscape.

I had the option to ride it twice with the goggles, and absolutely loved it. My involvement today was shooting some b-roll of the coaster and managing an editing workstation; with a GoPro at the front of the train, newspaper writers and television anchors were filmed on the ride; I then grabbed the card and in a seven minute turnaround gave them a picture-in-picture video if them on the ride against prerecorded video of what they were seeing in the goggles.

Here's video from testing out the setup with footage filmed with me and my boss yesterday.

Any comments comparing this favorably to Independence Day: Resurgence will be met with hearty chuckles.

There are a couple I made today that have b-roll spliced into the video as well; as soon as I see a media outlet post one of those, or a video news story with it, I'll post that here as well. In the meantime, here's a local paper's writeup, with a link at the bottom to video with one of their writers.

Dang. I really, really like it. Tension seemed right to me (though I know it's a live document and I know it's probably been updated since Shadow read it), as did timing. And I was totally invested, to the point where I started skimming lines looking for brown after the last squealer.

As far as what they're doing and it making sense, it totally works. Ransom money for the Corvus crew, right? (Might be wrong on the ship name.)

Hell yes I want to be a part of this. Argus or Blue, maybe. Blue's nervous chatter and sarcasm are kinda my archetype, so I'd be fine playing that or doing someone else against type. If you want I can read an "audition" page for a few so you can cast me as you see fit.

I'm on for tonight, but only if it's Shadowrun. If someone's out and we're waiting again, I'd just as soon try to catch up on lost sleep.

Don't worry about it SD. If I'm still dealing with it come Sunday, Shadoerun will be a welcome diversion. I'll just have to be trying harder to keep my head in the game.
