Brian, I feel like that'd be an alright plot for a book, but way too boring for a Star Wars movie. (Had you asked in 1998, anyway.)

Die Hard is one of those movies that I was surprised to hear was considered one of the all time greats, back before I had seen it.

As with Se7en and Alien, this movie is the grand-daddy of a whole genre, and a million little tropes that seem obvious today had to be invented for it. Enjoy this classic McTiernan flick to kick start your Down in Front holiday season.

Does everyone currently see Princess Bride on the homepage? We're still tweaking the way caching works on the site, and it's possible in some cases a person's browser held on to the Revenge of the Sith data.

Mystery Men might be a good one. Hm.

Yeah, at this point, the only text that should be shittily colored is unimportant stuff that you can highlight to read if absolutely necessary. Is the forum usable for you guys, or is it completely impossible to navigate?

By S. Morgenstern, chapter one.

Teague here.

It's fair to say that this is one of those "lovey dovey" Down in Front episodes, and who's to blame you? We're all comfortable with this movie like we're comfortable with your mother, and I personally am so comfortable with this movie that I took it upon myself to get hammered and mix myself improperly. Sorry folks, neither of those things will happen again.

As Trey is quick to point out, this episode reveals our allegiance to the "fifth" Down in Fronter, William Goldman, who's myriad musings on the craft of storytelling brought all of us independently to where we are now (on a podcast, thanks, Goldman), and with good reason. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of any of his books - I prefer Which Lie Did I Tell?, but take your pick - and learn something from the source for once, instead of coming to this god damned website and hearing us screw up what we learned from him.

Or just watch the movie. Or read the book. Failing these things, listen to our commentary for The Princess Bride.

For #1, you're specifically talking about the forum, correct? Fixing #2 as we speak, and #3 will be toyed with all week. What resolution are you working with so that I can test it?

Each episode now has its own page.

For the rest of history, navigating to downinfront.net/episode/33 will bring you to Revenge of the Sith. (Our 33rd episode.) 32 to Hulk, and so on, all the way back to The Phantom Menace, at 1.

In the meantime, to make things easier, I'll add a thread in this forum indicating hard links to each movie we've done.

That's the best solution for now. We'll have something better as soon as possible. The file names haven't changed for any episode, and the naming convention won't be changing.

Sorry, dude. I know this screws you up a bit.

Hey, kids. Holden here. With the unveiling of the new site, there are sure to be technical issues all over the place me or the other guys might have a hard time finding. That being said, if you see anything that just doesn't look quite right, throw a post in here so we can get it locked down. The goal is to make the site as completely usable as possible on any browser at any resolution, but I know for a fact that this is currently not the case.

Currently known bugs:

  • Clipping of recent/upcoming boxes on Internet Explorer. IE doesn't handle padding properly, so I'm going to have to cobble something together.

  • Lots of clipping on small resolutions, namely netbooks. This is going to take some work, since a lot of the images are VERY BIG.

Keep 'em coming.

Revenge of the Sith.

Yeah. So, that happened. We got our prequel trilogy, guys. How was it for you?

I think, you and us, we're on the same page. We're kinda okay with this one, after what I and II did to us. That being said, god damn it.

Also, check the blog for Dorkman's take on how this whole black parade should have gone. (Trust me, you'll dig this.)

Look, no. Discuss something else. This topic is heretofore about gas prices. Forget about Attack of the Clones and try to be whole again.

So, here's a thing. Ryan W and I were interviewed about the show and what we do for a living by The 3Dots, resulting in this fine example of drunken interviewee-ing.

Fancy, right?

Hulk is one of those things that you can’t deny exists. It’s like a relative with a drug habit. It just is, and it’s awkward for everyone. This week, because we needed someone with a little comic perspective, we went in for a classic Jake Lloyd episode. Jake does admirably in the face of a movie that is confusingly bad. Why doesn’t it work? What the hell happened? We think we know. We’re just those kinds of assholes.

Also, please give feedback on this audio file. This is our first experiment in SURROUND-O-VISION, and the stereo file places the four panelists around you exactly as we sit at the table. You’re between Brian and Dorkman.

Hey guys, Teague here. Let’s finish this shit off, shall we?

Newcomer Matt comes prepared to fill the shoes of Trey, notes in hand, to explain to three haters why he likes this movie. Hopefully this keeps your whistle wet until next week, when there will be something fancy to talk about unrelated to the release. (Which will also be good. Next week will be good, I promise. For this week…well, you know. Revolutions.)

Hey guys, Teague here. Alright, four scary movies in a row, I think it’s time to bring funny back and drop a bomb unto you like no other. A movie in the top ten of all four of our panelists, a feat – while not studied – likely to be a singularity counted against the entire history of cinema. Galaxy Quest is the very model of a Down in Front certified Perfect Movie™.

I’d also like to thank the folks who have left reviews and ratings on our iTunes page, those really help push us in front of other shows in the iTunes library-o-podcastery, and that’s kind of the idea. We’re doing our part here behind the scenes to get some more participation as well, and as such, don’t be surprised if you start seeing some changes around here in the coming weeks.

With our combined strength, we can have a monopoly on excellence and comedy in commentary form. (Aside from Rifftrax.) (And Cinematic Titanic.) (And Riff Raff Theater.) (And shut up.)

Hey guys, Teague here, with the end-all be-all of movies that scared me as a child: Jurassic Park. Fittingly, it’s the end of our month of scary movies, and what a month it has been. Nobody should be surprised that we’re all in favor of this movie, and when everyone agrees that a movie rocks, there’s nothing left to do but watch it.

And when you’re done, watch this, made by a Down in Front listener. We quote this even more than we quote Jurassic Park

Hey guys, Teague here with the third scary movie of October. Prepare your spine for curving and the conclusion of your intestines for high speed rupture; our movie this week is The Fly.

All hands on are deck for this creepy-ass horror show, and for a creature feature, resident old school FXer Trey is less than impressed. Why, you ask? How could it be? Listen to find out. Because I forgot. I think he’s just a curmudgeon. Or kind of a dick.

Hey guys, Teague here with the release of our second scary movie for the month of October, Alien. (Theatrical Cut.)

Guess how many times I tried to write this paragraph before realizing this film can’t be introduced.

Right. It can’t be done. A beautiful man named Eddie Doty (from the Watchmen and Full Metal commentaries) subs in for Dorkman in this discussion of a thirty-year-old movie that sci-fi flicks are stylistically ripping off to this very day.

Hey guys, Teague here, with the release of Dark City. (Theatrical cut.)

For this first entry in our October-long series of scary or, ha, dark, movies, things get firey as a disagreement is found between myself and Trey on the subject of Dark City’s filmmaker-audience relationship. (And, two things – one, we’re both alive and the swordfight you might think was inevitable never happened, and, two, I realize now that I agree with Trey on paper, I’m just a bitchy-boy.)

So stay tuned for an October full of scary flicks that will never be seen again by Brandon Lee because Mr. Dark City killed him, and try to remember that whenever Trey says this movie is good. As I say in the commentary, you know who else liked Dark City? Hitler.
