Topic: New Site Bugs!

Hey, kids. Holden here. With the unveiling of the new site, there are sure to be technical issues all over the place me or the other guys might have a hard time finding. That being said, if you see anything that just doesn't look quite right, throw a post in here so we can get it locked down. The goal is to make the site as completely usable as possible on any browser at any resolution, but I know for a fact that this is currently not the case.

Currently known bugs:

  • Clipping of recent/upcoming boxes on Internet Explorer. IE doesn't handle padding properly, so I'm going to have to cobble something together.

  • Lots of clipping on small resolutions, namely netbooks. This is going to take some work, since a lot of the images are VERY BIG.

Keep 'em coming.

Re: New Site Bugs!

How can I link to a specific commentary? Link to the forum page?

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Re: New Site Bugs!

That's the best solution for now. We'll have something better as soon as possible. The file names haven't changed for any episode, and the naming convention won't be changing.

Sorry, dude. I know this screws you up a bit.

Re: New Site Bugs!

Each episode now has its own page.

For the rest of history, navigating to downinfront.net/episode/33 will bring you to Revenge of the Sith. (Our 33rd episode.) 32 to Hulk, and so on, all the way back to The Phantom Menace, at 1.

In the meantime, to make things easier, I'll add a thread in this forum indicating hard links to each movie we've done.

Re: New Site Bugs!

This is great, but are you going to eventually put the direct links in the front page listings themselves?

Imagine the Star Trek fan who wants to tell others about your Star Trek 6 commentary:

"Go to downinfront.net and click on Archive and then scroll thru the thumbnails in the little box until you find the one that looks like the poster for Star Trek 6, and click on that."
"Is that the one with the Enterprise coming out of Kirk and Spock's heads?"
"No, no, no. You're thinking of the poster for Star Trek 5. The Star Trek 6 poster has the Enterprise about to teabag a Klingon."
"I thought that was Star Trek 7."
"NO! Star Trek 7 was Generations! That had the Enterprise coming out of Kirk and Picard's heads!"
"Found it. Oh, crap. The link's broken."

Aaaaaaaand scene.

By the way, the download link actually IS broken on the Star Trek 6 listing. The file name is missing the 3 at the end.

Re: New Site Bugs!

So just a couple things I've run into:

1) All the text on the site in important places is the same color as the background (Write message:, all the register stuff as well as the login stuff)

2)The streaming file for Hook just leads to a file not working

3)On some of the movies the streaming player gets bumped down so that it's overlayed on top of the scrolling bar.  (I think it just depends on how long winded Teague is in the description.) But yah it kinda gets lost amongst the movie posters.

And that's all I've found so far. If I find any more I'll let you know.

Re: New Site Bugs!

For #1, you're specifically talking about the forum, correct? Fixing #2 as we speak, and #3 will be toyed with all week. What resolution are you working with so that I can test it?

Re: New Site Bugs!

I agree with Chris(maul2) about the colors. The cyan-blue fields have the same color font on them, which makes them impossible to see.

Also, you need a favicon. That way, I can bookmark this site, and remove the header text, to just have the icon. Way more bookmarks in the same place, and not so cluttered.

Re: New Site Bugs!

Yes I am talking about just the forum, sorry.

I've tried it on all of my monitors: running 1920x1200, 1024x786, and 1440x900.

And it happens on all of them.

Re: New Site Bugs!

Yeah, at this point, the only text that should be shittily colored is unimportant stuff that you can highlight to read if absolutely necessary. Is the forum usable for you guys, or is it completely impossible to navigate?

Re: New Site Bugs!

Oh yah, it's navigable, it just might be a little confusing for new people cause all you can see is these white boxes with no instructions. But yah unless they're complete morons we can figure it out.

and besides, we don't want complete morons here anyway, do we? tongue

Re: New Site Bugs!

Does everyone currently see Princess Bride on the homepage? We're still tweaking the way caching works on the site, and it's possible in some cases a person's browser held on to the Revenge of the Sith data.

Yep I'm good. Great commentary too!

And the streaming thing looks right too.

Works great here. Now make a favicon!

Re: New Site Bugs!

Can't post a comment on the blog because the preview pops up a Captcha in a non-scrolling box that's too small for it, so I can't see the Captcha text entry field or Submit button.

Ah. Great smile

You know, the favicon.

Re: New Site Bugs!

Wow, zombie thread.  Minor thing, but there is apparently a timeout somewhere that marks all new threads read automatically after a set period of time, regardless of whether you've actually viewed them.  Is this something I can edit, or is it inherent to the system?  I'd love to be able to settle in, write a nice long post, and still be able to see the unread posts from last time I logged in.

Oh, and what are the chances of getting Flash / HTML5 (YouTube / Vimeo / etc.) embedding functionality?

Re: New Site Bugs!

Apparently all the text on the site is black now...which needless to say makes it somewhat hard to read.
