To promote LG’s latest line of ‘home theatre 3D sound’, advertising agency Y&R (Young & Rubicam) in Sao Paulo, Brazil came up with this creative print campaign that shows famous movie posters from different perspectives, transforming the flat 2-dimensional posters into a 3d environment.

Great episode.

You guys were talking about the way Peter Jackson is shooting The Hobbit at 48 frames-per-second and how you were iffy on it and you saw it only as an interesting experiment. I was reminded on Douglas Trumbull and his ideas about immersive cinema.

Last year Trumbull spoke to FXGuideTV about his ideas and in a weak attempt to wrap my brains around what he was saying I tried to recap it on my "blog". To sum up on his ideas about the 48 frames-per-second he believes in certain instances higher frame rate can save money

Higher Frame Rate Saves Money

Movies today loose so much information in action scenes. The image becomes blurred to the point where you can’t make out what is what. If you go through it frame by frame, right at the peak of the action is where everything becomes completely blurred so you can’t make out what it is, so all the information that should have been captured is gone.

Production value that has been paid for is lost because of the deficiencies of the 24 frame method. Shooting it with higher frame rate has no adverse effects on the production cost. It may even be in some ways less expensive because rendering blur is an expensive digital process. CGI guy’s would rather render five sharp frames than one blurred frame because the blur is a pain in the neck.

In 3D you don’t get that break down in stereoscopic vision on fast action because blurring destroys 3D.

It’s not appropriate for all movies, 24 frames are still fine and appropriate for most movies but for movies like Avatar you want the experience to become more real, more stereoscopic, more immersive. There you benefit from higher frame rates, higher brightness, higher resolution or higher dynamic range is completely appropriate for that kind of a film production.

If you want to read the whole bloody thing then you can find it here.

First of all redxavier I feel for you, loosing the money sucks and feeling duped adds insult to injury.

Dorkman's comment was harsh but I have to agree with him. These scams don't work if they don't have greed to play on.

The saying "you can't con an honest man" only tells us though that most people are not actually as honest as they would like to think they are. I think we all can be taken on a bad day.

These kind of scams are quick and based on fast talking, charme and the "greed" of the victim. But this is not a fair game, true scam artists are so experienced and they can "hypnotize" the mark. Before you know it they are gone and you slowly realize you've been taken. Although some say the best grifters can take you for a ride and you will never know you've been had.

On a side note, have you guy's seen the "Ten Commandments for con men"

Watch Sharpe.
I bought the DVD set for my father (read: me) when he had a knee surgery and had to stay of the leg for a month.
15 disc box set with 14 TV movies. You might have to have at least a passing interest in the Napoleonic Wars though.

My story of the One Ring

Years ago I was working in East Greenland as a guide.

I was walking home after I had unloaded my group for the day at the airport and sent them flying to Iceland. Instead of taking the usual route home I took a path which we almost never took tourists through. I came to a stream and on the other side lying on the moss next to the water was a silver ring. I jumped over to the other side and holy shit. It was a replica of the One Ring. It was a small ring, probably in a woman's size. I could not put it on at any cost. It was a high end replica, complete with inscription on both outside and inside. It was silver, not gold one but I got to say it was beautiful.

It probably was from a German kayak group who had camped close by few days earlier and had flown home maybe a day or two before.

I took the ring home and got a leather string and had it around my neck for a while.

I later gave the ring to a girl I was dating and she wore it around her neck. Then one day it was gone. She had given the ring to somebody else. And all summer I was seeing this ring around town on different girls. When I was going home at the end of the summer I tried to find the ring as I wanted to take it home with me (It wants to go home). I could not find it no matter how hard I looked and eventually I heard it was in a another town.

I find the whole thing funny and sometimes I wonder where this ring is now. Is somebody still carrying it around or is it in somebody’s jewelry box never to be seen again? I like to think it might not be in Greenland any more as many greenlandic girls move to Denmark to study and some settle down there. And you know, Denmark borders to Germany.

It want’s to go home!

Congrats on the Third Age of DIF

Nice episode although I missed Eddie and some of the other regulars.
Thanks  for the almost shout out although you did not remember my name.

Forever alone!

I also enjoyed having the “most liked” post title (Precious) even if the title was taken away from me in the next sentence. Well, you win some you loose some. Who can be miffed loosing out to Zarbaggins, probably the most memorable fan art I’ve ever seen on the forums and for sure the funniest.
