Olan Rogers. This guy is freakin' awesome.

I've known him for a while, because back in 2005-2006 I followed a channel called Balloonshop in which he and friends of his made hilariously absurd short videos. Years later I thought he got back into anonymity when Balloonshop died down, but instead (as I found out only yesterday) he created his own channel and starting making short films and such. He's a busy man; actor, director, photographer, and he makes t-shirts (yeah). Apparently he's gaining some fame for some webseries he's making, which I have yet to check out.

So anyway, among other things, he uploads vlog-y video in which he tells stories. And he's good at it, lemme tell ya. This one in particular is pure gold; I haven't laughed this hard in ages.

It's more that the fourth and fifth book are dull and repetitive. Every Brienne chapter in CROWS is the same. Every Tyrion chapter in DRAGONS is the same. Every time they eat a meal Martin stops the story to give us a detailed recipe. I'm planning to read the final two books if they're ever released, as I'm already well in for a penny, but I genuinely think the show is at the point of doing a better job of telling the story than the books. It boils it down to the interesting bits, still takes the time to let the characters be more than just cardboard cutouts, and when nothing interesting is happening in the books it does a good job of coming up with something in the proper spirit for both plot and character.

Well... I'll agree that the show is doing a wonderful job at adapting the story to its medium, but the books tell it just fine for me too. To each his own, of course. What you find dull in the books is most of the time making me experience this universe more thoroughly. I'll never get tired of Martin's food descriptions. As he said in his introduction to the cookbook A Feat of Ice and Fire: "It grouns the scenes, gives them texture, makes them vivid and visceral and memorable."

I will agree, however, that the Brienne chapters are by far the ones I find the most boring. I just don't care about this character and her goals anymore.

And of course, Harrison Ford's ultimate "I know" improvisation.

Han's original "I love you too" would have been fine, but Ford went and made it badass - among other qualities.

It's one of the most intense moments in the trilogy, in my opinion; Chewie shouting at the sky gives me chills every damn time. And Han's simple yet full of sense reply is not only badass and very much into character; it also transcends he and Leia's relationship. It's amazing.

I think a good rule to follow here is also to point out when lines and/or the context/reasons explained are of a spoiler-y nature.

If we're gonna go through the classics, let's not forget Jaws.

(spoiler: ending of the film)

"Smile, you son of a bitch!"

I think it particularly works because this badass line is delivered by a not-so-badass guy. Brody struggles with water throughout the film, and to see him saying that while surrounded by an infinity of it is awesome.

OSS 117 : Le Caire, Nid d'Espion is one of the most hilarious french movies I've ever seen. I love Dujardin and I want to have sex with his acting in it. There. smile

Hazanavicius is a master at absurd humor. A while ago, he made La Classe Américaine, a movie made entirely out of extracts from old Warner Bros. films, dubbed with new lines. It's stupid as hell and is a cult movie around here. I know almost every line by heart.

I can't really imagine someone from another country enjoying such movies. I don't think the tone and humor can translate well; it might be too specifically linked to our own culture. But maybe it's just that this particular kind of humor is my thing, and not yours.

Hard to tell, quite frankly.

I worked on it a while ago, then got into a very busy week and I admit I had to forget about it a bit - but I also thought the whole thing wasn't properly launched. I'll get my lines done as soon as I can.

Interest in the project is still at maximum level, dontcha worry. smile

I know who he is, but that's about it. Some of us here didn't grow with american TV.  smile

A bit tart. I was light on the lemon juice, though, but the clementine might be responsible. I may need to add some more honey.

Damn, saffron is powerful. I only put a pinch of it in the dough and it was overwhelming. Good to know.

I don't know if you get this in America, but Milka Oreo is the shit. So I decided to make it into cookies.

Gravity is not a great movie from a pure storytelling standpoint. Not in my opinion at least, and this is where it disappointed me a bit.

Children of Men featured, like, no children at all. What the hell, movie? It's like you were doing it on purpose.

I actually remembered most parts of the film, even though I'm pretty sure I'd never watched it before. I think I must have watched a Nostalgia Critic episode of it.

It totally made my day. It's cheesy as hell, some effects just shouldn't have made the final cut, and fans from the comic book probably burst in tears the minute Dredd removed his helmet... But man, this guy, what a one-liner. Everything that came out of this mouth was pure gold.

Visually, it actually isn't half bad. There were several cool matte painting/miniature shots, and the combat robots and Mean Machine looked really, really great.

Don't get me wrong, in the end it's still a bad flick. I would like to mention especially comic relief Rob Schneider, who was a pain each time he opened his goddamn mouth (which was only to scream half the time).

This is just one of these movies you watch from time to time to have a good laugh and a bowl of popcorn. Like The Room. Except I'm not watching The Room ever again. Judge Dredd? Any time.

How was this not directed by Verhoeven?
