I keep checking my bookmarks and expecting there to be new updates on his feed without even thinking about it. I will say that it's fitting that his last tweet before the accident was about calling Dawkins' dudebro followers Dawksuckers.

Now that Michael is no longer in the ICU, we have been told that we may start to really decorate his room. It is important for the staff to see who he is. So if you would like to send cards, pictures of Michael, or you and Michael please do

(removed address with it being a public forum)

I think it'd be pretty cool if we sent a card from us forumfolk. One of us would write something, send it off to the next person, who sends it off to the next and so on. Snail mail chainletter style. Would anybody be up for this?

I'd most definitely be down.

I agree that Tucci makes up for a lot, but 4 is still the absolute worst of the franchise to me--the worst movie I've ever seen, really. I literally felt sick watching the thing (was dragged to it by a friend who had free tickets--would never give it money), despite anticipating how awful it would be. The awful product placement, the completely WHAT IN THE FUCK ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY ending, the rampant misogtny, the awful shooting and editing, the deus ex machinas, the new levels of sociopathy from Prime. And the bad humans are COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED in their motives. There is no good reason whatsoever we should put up with the goddam alien robots "protecting us" from a threat that is specifically out to get *them*.

It occurs to me that we have a rare opportunity here.  What scenario should we have ready for when Mike wakes up?

I'm trying to decide between 28 Days Later and Planet of the Apes, but leaning toward the latter because getting ape masks probably will be easier than convincing the Cedars-Sinai staff to temporarily abandon the entire floor of the hospital.

Just have everyone act normally until one of you casually references the third Ghostbusters movie that came out five years ago.

I was re-listening to the Malariathon before all this happened. Continuing to do so now, it just really hits home to me how integral and crucial a part of this podcast Dorkman is. Obviously it's low on the list of both his and our overall concerns ATM, but as this is still the DiF forum I can't help but say that it's going to be so weird for him to not be here on the show for however long his recovery's going to be, especially for those of us who discovered DiF though him in the first place. He's such a presence, and he's going to be sorely missed during his absence.

Oh, Hunchback is my favourite of all the Disney movies (an unpopular opinion I know, but I think it is great). When the musical opens on Broadway I am more than likely going to fly from Melbourne to New York to see it.

It's a bit too uneven tonally for it to top Beauty and the Beast, but if they'd cut some of the comic relief and just let it be dark completely it would be without question the peak of the DR. I remember being blown away when Teague said he couldn't remember any melodies from it besides "Topsy Turvy"—"Hellfire" has to be the most incredible musical number to come out of a Disney film in terms of orchestration, power, maturity, and sheer balls.

This was the most enjoyable Intermission I've listened to in a while; well done, guys. big_smile Needless to say, Trey's response to Incompetent Director Man has made the Crowning Moment of Awesome page on FIYH's TV Tropes entry.

Another Disney Renaissance film (esp. Beauty and the Beast or Hunchback of Notre Dame) would also be awesome.

She's all right. Really, it's less that her voice isn't up to it (though IMO she's far too weak and breathy) and more that she's trying to step into shoes previously filled by Angela Lansbury and Patti LuPone, and of course she's going to lose that contest.

In the vein of musicals, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street straddles the line between black comedy, straight-up horror and tragedy, and is for my money the greatest American musical of the last forty years. Burton's version is fantastic, and with the exception of Helena Bonham Carter everyone from Depp to Rickman to Baron Cohen sings beautifully well. Listening to the OST right now, in fact.

I've been on a folk kick lately, and Anaïs Mitchell and Ani DiFranco have successfully penetrated their way into my current list of favorite artists. Shall be seeing the former live whilst studying in England. *does a little dance*

Recently re-watched it on the big screen, and I'm convinced Apocalypse Now is the best film ever made. Don't think anything before or since will ever reach that combination of artistry and incredible big-budget scale. The lighting alone makes me want to cry its so gorgeous.

This is no doubt stating the obvious, but the helicopter attack blew my fucking mind. I was simultaneously awed by the scale of it all and horrified for Coppola at the thought of having to direct something of that magnitude.

Just watched Apocalypse Now for the first time...what is there to say? A complete masterpiece. My only issue is a total nitpick—the synthesized score works well in some places, but in others it's just a bit too dated (this is less an actual flaw and more just me, I think; the only time synths have truly worked for me are in The Who's early 70s albums and Vangelis' score for Blade Runner).

A WAYDM on it would be interesting, if for no other reason than discussion of the absolutely hellish conditions under which it was filmed.

In light of what's happened, I think it's safe to say that a Robin Williams film should be done.

I thought the Marcellus Wallace's soul thing was direct from Tarantino. He spoke up after the film had been out for a while and people were wondering what the briefcase was all about. He was exasperated that nobody else in the world had connected it to some myth about souls in boxes and supernatural protection for those tasked with returning them to their owners. The band-aid on the back of MW's head is like a dead giveaway because that's whence the soul was removed, or some such. I can almost picture him in a mid-90's TV interview speaking words to that effect, but perhaps I'm a suggestible witness who just heard it second hand.

Shit, wait, did the boys go over this in the PF com and now I've typed up my skewed version...?

I'm pretty sure I've read that Tarantino wishes he'd never put the orange glow in the movie precisely because it started the whole soul theory and he thinks it's bullshit. Can't remember a source to cite, though.

So yeah. It's a decent way to sort through netflix. I wish they'd let me reverse the score sorting. Trying to get to the bottom of the list is a bit annoying, and I do tend to watch a lot of fucking terrible movies. They've been so hard to find on Netflix, tho, with their retarded scoring system where anything that's not amazing seems to end up with a 2.5 or a 3.5 score. It's god damned impossible to find the truly terrible films on there.

If you're looking for something really awful on Netflix that still has some star power, look up Water's Edge sometime. Nathan Fillion is in it, which is why I watched it, but even he can't save it; it's the worst non-Transformers movie I've seen.

I don't see how this plot is that complicated. MacGuffin orb is worth a lot of money, but it turns out that if the bad guy gets the MacGuffin orb, Bad Things will happen, so the bad guy must be stopped.

And there are also two daughters of this guy called Thanos, only they aren't his daughters really, and they're working for Ronan because reasons...

Quite honestly, that whole subplot is the film's weakest link for me.

Just saw it, and I'm gonna be in the very slim minority here, because, while I would by no means call it bad, I just didn't care for the film. It was certainly witty, but it was witty without possessing any humanity. I was amused by what the characters said, but I couldn't have given less of a damn about any of them. I was more invested in The Amazing Spider-Man II than I was in this movie, and I have an equal degree of unfamiliarity with each of the films' source material, so it's not just that. I think a large part of it has to do with the fact that, for all ASMII's flaws, Peter and Gwen felt like real people with real emotions and relationships, and none of GotG's characters had that reality for me. The WTF-ness of the plot that Trey mentioned earlier certainly contributed to that feeling. Also, I think I'm just burned out on this kind of movie. Oh no, a new villain with no backstory and a desire to destroy an entire planet must be stopped. Again. And we will stop him in battle sequences full of over-the-top CGI and no real sense of danger for anyone. I've never been a fan of that kind of film to begin with, and I guess the catalyst for my getting utterly fed up with it had the misfortune of being this movie.

^Except it seems to be missing a certain titular figure.

Does anyone want to talk about "unpopular opinions" as a concept? Personally, I love 'em. I spent too long shutting out the voices of anyone who disagreed with me. I think we need dissent to put our own opinions in context. If someone wants to argue the artistic value of the Transformers films, I'm all ears.

Agreed. I often go on Amazon and other such places to read negative reviews of things I like, and positive reviews of things I dislike. If the reviews are well-thought out and have valid points, I enjoy reading them and thinking about them; however, one has to separate the wheat from the chaff, to abuse a cliche, and avoid the uneducated/just plain trolling opinions. Those aren't enlightening for obvious reasons.
