Topic: October Movie Mixtape

I'm gonna (try to) do a thing this October where I watch a horror movie that's new to me every day. I'm having some trouble coming up with enough to fill the month. Any suggestions? Here's my list so far:

- Nosferatu
- Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
- Scanners
- The Brood
- The Vanishing
- House on Haunted Hill
- The Blob 1950s (which I keep accidentally typing as "The Blog")
- An American Werewolf in London
- Sisters
- Manhunter
- Vampyr
- Cronos
- The Phantom Carriage
- The Devil and Daniel Webster
- I Married a Witch
- Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1950s
- Twixt
- The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
- Carnival of Souls
- Diabolique
- Shock Corridor

I'm not even sure if some of these qualify as "horror," so please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyone got any favorite lesser-known horror movies?

Not strictly "Horror" but damn fun and easily fit in at any halloween party.

-Repo! A Genetic Opera
-The Devil's Carnival

Otherwise, I'm not a horror guy, so can't help ya.

Re: October Movie Mixtape

In the vein of musicals, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street straddles the line between black comedy, straight-up horror and tragedy, and is for my money the greatest American musical of the last forty years. Burton's version is fantastic, and with the exception of Helena Bonham Carter everyone from Depp to Rickman to Baron Cohen sings beautifully well. Listening to the OST right now, in fact.

Awe, I like really HBC's voice.*

*At least for Mrs. Lovett, I haven't heard her sing in anything else that comes to mind

She's all right. Really, it's less that her voice isn't up to it (though IMO she's far too weak and breathy) and more that she's trying to step into shoes previously filled by Angela Lansbury and Patti LuPone, and of course she's going to lose that contest.

Parents, Randy Quaid movie from the eighties.  I watched this one at a very young age and never went back because it was so unsettling and confusing to me at the time, but I think it's a horror comedy.  Ugh...weird.

The original Toolbox Murders is good retro slasher trash, my friends and I would laugh our ass off during the bath tub scene.

Caught the french flick Inside recently, really solid gore effects and horrible baby cgi.

Deadgirl is a really solid alt-horror movie, great fx, solid soundtrack and ultimately a pretty sweet story.  Different.
P.s. There is penetration to an oozing wound.

Others that probably have been seen by all, but worth checking out in case you missed em': Slither, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Return of the Living Dead, Drag Me To Hell, and two franchise documentaries that are better than almost all entries in the series; Never Sleep Again: Nightmare on Elm Street doc and Crystal Lake Memories: Friday the 13th doc, both excellent.

Try Paperhouse, a good British film from 1988. A girl draws a house, dreaming that there is a sick boy living in it.

On the other end of the spectrum, Sleepaway Camp. Don't read anything about it, just watch it smile

Evil Dead 1 and 2 excepted, I really can't stand what I've seen of Sam Raimi's work. Army of Darkness is exemplary of everything I hate about his sensibilities.

Re: October Movie Mixtape

Of the original Evil Dead films, Army of Darkness is the one I re-watch the least.  And it was the only one I saw at the cinema.

Fun fact from Jimmy B.
