Technically, they could have been in the 'cool pictures' thread as I put a few in the early pages (including some posted above) but having it's own thread is cool too. I know what it is liking wanting to have your own thread that you can post things you want people to see smile

I finally got around to watching Avengers again and I'd probably say the nomination is due to the overall package and not to any one specific thing. Trey has talked about how it's often the range and diversity of the effects rather than just a single breakthrough, and Avengers has a wide range of different things - from the helicarrier and jets to the Hulk and the utterly convincing Iron Man, and from the seamless wirework of Captain America and folks getting pulled around when hit to the practical cars blowing up in the street. It's got everything done to a high standard and it's all melded together really well. Even when Thor is trapped in cell as it's hurtling to ground, it's a great sequence.

Obviously it was awarded for all of its effects, my comment was a flippant one. I still don't think it is Oscar worthy though as was the consensus of DIF in the podcast smile

So, a nine year old is up for best actress, a leading actress is up for best actress in a supporting role and one film is up for both best film and best foreign film.

Not sure where I am going with this, just pointing them out. big_smile

The BAFTA Nominations were released today too and the FX ones for that are-

The Dark Knight Rises
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Life Of Pi
Marvel Avengers Assemble
Prometheus

First David Bowie single in a decade, you say? Sure-

I still want a Labyrinth sequel big_smile

UPDATE: It's not technically 'free', it is only going to be available for those with existing Adobe CS2 as they have just cancelled their CS2 license management servers. Which I don't understand, but someone might big_smile

Pitch Perfect may be getting a sequel! It made just over $100,000,000 worldwide ($65-ish mil domestic) and it is still showing in cinemas here. That may not sound like much compared to most films but PP only took $17 million to make, so it was actually a money maker. Universal are very happy with how it did, apparently.  I thought it flopped, it certainly didn't last long in cinemas.

I love the film but I'm not 100% sure it needs a sequel, the story has pretty much been told.....

Listened to you fellas describe how The Hobbit looked and it made me wish they filmed Ted that way. It'd look like an episode of Alf! big_smile

Apart from the inconsistency of Anderson's power, sure.

For the record, I like Looper but I had more fun with Dredd....

A couple people may not have seen- Quick Change starring and co-directed by Bill Murray and The Bank Job, one of the most non-Jason Statham films Jason Statham has made in the past decade. Sure, they are not your bog-standard 'heist' films but I like to think outside the box. A seemingly impenetrable box with steel-reinforced concrete walls 12 inches thick but still.....

Ditto. I am not a big gamer but as a fan of the comics, I played this and, holy shit. I have never been so emotional at a game before.

The last game I played was Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse, which took me about 4 hours to finish (not including breaks) and it was shit but I didn't pay for it, so....

I sat alone at home, putting comics and books into my new tablet to read. I typed 'Happy New Year' in the chat as soon as it turned midnight here then chatted to Faldor for a bit before falling asleep at about 2am.

Nice, peaceful and quiet, just the way I like it smile

Ah, Zen, the show the BBC never liked from the start. They shoved it on Sunday nights and cancelled it almost straight after the third episode aired. It did pretty well in the ratings too, it wasn't a flop but they axed it claiming there are enough male crimefighters on TV. Then they go ahead and finance and show Death In Paradise about a cop in the Caribbean that gets about the same ratings....and a second series. It really is a strange case, makes you wonder why they put money into Zen in the first place.

Cool, looking forward to it, always a fan of your comms.

Guy Pearce certainly carries Lockout but I am pretty sure if someone cared enough they could find faults with it and debunk your theory that it is a 'perfect movie'.......It won't be me, though, I can't be arsed watching it again big_smile

Ah, I get the problem now. Yeah, it doesn't bother me, really big_smile

I still like the show but I don't love it like I used to so I do recognise that there are problems. Saying that, I wasn't really a huge fan of the way RTD wrote either.

Wait....so the complaint is that he is writing strong women and not dumb or meek ones? big_smile

His very first show was a kid's show called Press Gang and the main character in that was a strong but stubborn and egotistical teenage girl. A real ball-breaker but she had a vulnerable side although she didn't show it that often. Maybe that is what Doctor Who needs, a character like that? She was a bitch but sassy and likeable. I love Press Gang, it was a great show and it is why I don't plan on giving up on Moffat yet.

It's clearly an age thing, an outdated concept but that is what it meant 'back in the day'.

Anderson uses her powers too selectively - she should have eiher seen the kids coming, that the dude was going to escape his restraints, etc

Yeah, that second one bothered me as it was happening. The film is still great, though.

As for the question raised in this thread, I think asking for movies you specifically saw in a theater is a bit limiting. I'd just widen it to include the last perfect movie you saw, period. In the cinema, that would be The Avengers and before that, The Cabin In The Woods. If we're talking about at home, then my answer would be Lockout (it fit the criteria/definition, shut up) and before that, Premium Rush.

Yeah, I should say The Avengers rather than Cabin as I saw Avengers after. They were released within two weeks of each other (Cabin being first) back in April in the UK so I got mixed up. Although I still say by the DiF definition, Pitch Perfect is a perfect movie......

And while our tastes are usually similar, Pav, I didn't Lockout, thought it was bad. Premium Rush was a nice surprise, though. It was fun, although-

Just what was the point of the bikers helping at the end? Were they just there to distract the cop? To what end? Didn't make much sense to me, it seemed quite pointless in the grand scheme of things. Good film, though
