The Social Network is about someone who specializes in computer code, that's vastly different than some futuristic hacking system in The Matrix.

Chris Pratt is fantastic but I'm very disappointed they didn't go with Glenn Howerton for the role.

I'm not calling anyone a nerd. Coding is something that the vast majority of people don't understand. When it's on screen it's just there to let the audience know that some computer shit is going on; shows and films don't really have the time to take a break and explain to everyone the innerworkings of fictional hardware and software. The idea that some sci-fi movie/show needs to be called out because it featured 20 frames of C++ instead of it's own made up programming language is kinda crazy. It's such a minuscule element of television and film that it's bordering on pointless. It'd be like me dissecting every baseball scene in media and bitching about the grip the pitchers have on the ball.

Now, if you wanna bitch about the illogical aspect of something like two completely incompatible devices linking together (Independence Day) or computers doing things in the present that fucking impossible (every network cop show ever), that's something I could at least understand.

I cannot fathom how anyone can care that much about coding.

So.

I can think of one major exception that ruined a NIN song because now I forever associate it with a colossal letdown.

It was super pissed he pulled out of The Wolverine, too. I still liked what we got, but can you just imagine

Yeah, I'd love to see what Aronofsky could do with the action genre. I suspect it would be as bloody as Verhoeven but with none of the intended humor; which may actually make it funnier. Here are some articles about his tenure with the remake:

http://www.theguardian.com/film/2008/jul/25/robocop
http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=23542
http://collider.com/darren-aronofsky-robocop-remake-3d/

Basically, MGM's financial collapse destroyed his involvement. It's a damn shame we didn't get to see his vision of the concept, it could have been the greatest remake since The Thing.

I thought I made that clear when they were the lone writer and director credits in the first post.

Ya, that clip makes me want to vomit. This videogame cutscene bullshit is a plague on modern cinema. Ugh.

If they're going to be influenced by videogame cutscenes, couldn't they at least use Naughty Dog games?

Wanna get more upset? Imagine if Aronofsky had stayed onboard the remake and been allowed to make his version instead of that shit.

Obligatory. Two hours of comics trashing Twister.

I have no desire to see the remake unless it's free and I can drink. PG-13, no blood, no strong language, Robocop only incapacitates people, and when Murphy becomes Robocop, he has full knowledge of what is being done to him and his past. Fuck that noise. Beneath the rough, violent and visually stunning sci-fi action setting and subject-matter, the core message of the original Robocop is two things:

1. A man's spirit can be suppressed, twisted and stifled, but only temporarily. It cannot be destroyed, and given the most basic modicum of time, the soul will reclaim the body and identity to whom it belongs. A man's body can be crushed and his mind warped and controlled, but his spirit will always, always persist until his last breath. If Murphy never loses his self-awareness or even his memories, then this idea will not be explored at all.

2. Justice will pursue you till the end of your days. It will do so even from beyond the gave if it must. There is no permanent respite for evil, even through murder of the innocent and the just. Evil is always, always destroyed through the sins it commits and the people it transgresses against, and justice will always prevail. This is still open for exploration in the remake but the trailer has Murphy dying in a random car explosion rather than a brutal execution, so the justice/revenge won't feel as necessary or fulfilling to the audience.

While the argument could be made "perhaps they'll explore new themes", no they fucking won't and you know it. Also, the action looks like something out of a mod for Black Ops II.

If you can look at that and tell me it's not utter shit on every conceivable level of action cinema, you need a job lying to people for a living. Save us, Gareth Evans, you're our only hope.

Supernaturally NSFW.  I CANNOT stress this enough.  Hysterical if you have the stomach for it.

That's from the same people who put together the funniest television credit parodies I've ever seen.

I plan on watching their full remake when I get the time next weekend.

It seems that Trey and Doctor Submarine are the only two who understand what an Upworthy headline looks like. Everyone else, go read this:

It's time I revive this game again, but with another twist on the original premise. This time, instead of messing with the title of the movie, you're gonna be messing with the logline. Here is how it works:

1) Pick a movie or television series
2) Rework the logline into an Upworthy headline

I'm almost positive they're going to move exclusively to 2012 at some point. Considering; and this is a very very mild spoiler but I'm putting it in brackets anyway for anyone who doesn't like teasers:

SPOILER Show
The teaser for the next episode included a shot of 2012 Cohle outside of the interview room.

I think eventually, probably by the midpoint of Episode 6, it's going to be almost all 2012 stuff. I'd also be shocked if the last episode wasn't entirely in 2012, save for maybe a scene or two.

At this point, I'm not sure how much the 2012 stuff adds to the story. I guess we'll see how they tie it together, though.

The case in 1995 drastically changed the life of Woody, and more than likely, McConaughey. They went through hell and back with this shit. Yet, they somehow failed in fully solving the case as evident by the new killing in 2012. If the show presented this in a linear fashion, it would feel hokey to have a giant 17 year jump to 2012 at some point in like Episode 6. Imagine catching up with the two of them with the killer back at it again, then spending an entire episode getting acquainted with how things are different in 2012 before moving on with the case; it'd kill the momentum. Thanks to the interview segments, we get a perspective on where they are now in their lives and the lowdown of what's going on in 2012. When the eventual time jump happens, and the segments from 1995 slow down or cease, it's going to feel a lot more natural and fluid because we won't have to waste time with familiarities, we'll be able to go full speed ahead to the finish of the story.

On a similar note, when you get to sports games, Grand Theft Auto, or Metal Gear Solid, I'll gladly talk about it for hours. Especially if you're gonna talk about Madden. I don't think 2-3 hours is enough time for me to trash that abomination of a series.
