Eragon is literally the exact same plot as Star Wars with the names swapped out. No exaggeration. It is beat for beat the same movie. I'd love to see a commentary on why Star Wars works and Eragon fails.

Roger Ebert said that most movies could stand to lose 15 minutes, and I'm inclined to agree, at least with the recent crop of 150-200 min films.
He also famously said that no good movie is too long and no bad movie is too short, so he probably would have had words about this article.
Matt Singer is terrific. He's half of Filmspotting SVU.
Oh yes. Alison Willmore is also fantastic.
Matt Singer is great and I would have his film critic babies. That is all.
The only thing I know about this movie is that it has Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head in it, a trivia question which won me 4 tickets to Six Flags today. So thanks, Butch Cassidy! Maybe I'll actually watch you now.
Sorry, totally hated this one. Guh.
The reason why Foster's performance didn't work in my eyes had less to do with character motivation and more to do with that stupid accent and her over-affected line deliveries.
So I FINALLY caught up with this last night. AMC was doing a $3 showing for charity, so my friends and I decided that we might as well. I really, really liked it. Was it derivative of other sci-fi movies? Maybe. But while you can draw comparisons to other movies, I think that Oblivion is great in its own right. I'm so glad that movies like this exist. It isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, it's just trying to tell a cool story. And I found a lot of its twists pleasantly surprising. If I have one complaint, it's that for most of the second act I was REALLY confused about what was going on, mostly pertaining to Morgan Freeman and his people. Other than that, though, Oblivion is a great movie, and I'm glad I got to see it on the big screen.
Saw it, didn't love it. It certainly was pretty, I'll give it that. But most of the fight scenes were poorly edited, so it was tough to see what was going on. And pretty much every major plot beat felt totally arbitrary, like he was writing himself out of corners at every turn. Damon's sickness is basically just introduced to get the story going, and it has no bearing on the story beyond that. There's a ton of stuff that feels like that.
Thought you guys would find this interesting. Turns out Searching For Sugar Man wasn't as unbelievable as they lead you to believe.
Texting in a theater just doesn't make any sense to me. You paid for the opportunity to see a movie on the big screen. You can look at your phone any time FOR FREE (barring data charges, or whatever, but still.) Is it really so hard to watch the movie you just paid for without looking at your phone?
Talking is a different thing to me, though. Certain movies warrant it. Obviously I'd be annoyed by someone chit-chatting through The Act Of Killing or something, but I think that horror movies are all about the experience of seeing it with an audience. Part of the fun is how the audience interacts with the movie. It becomes a two-way street where movies normally aren't.
I think the Star Trek thing went on a bit long, but it was definitely hilarious. Seeing the scene in context of the whole episode, it's a great moment, but as I was watching, I was wondering why they were spending so much time with it and not with the main plot threads.
But then
I predict:
Jesse ultimately kills Walt.
They manage to avoid "Teague's Constant" in Chronicle. Andrew is withdrawn, but far from obnoxious. He uses the camera to keep people at a distance rather than draw them in.
I'd rather see them team up than fight. Their backgrounds and personalities are so different that you could basically do the best buddy cop movie of all time.
But I'm sure they'll just punch each other real hard until they decide to stop.
I would give my right arm for Chiwetel as the Doctor.
If it's another lanky white dude I'll be severely disappointed. It's been half a century. Let's mix things up a bit.
Saw it. Didn't like it.
SPOILERsomeone explain to me why his mum couldn't be a holo-deus ex machine, too?
Because Superman is more about fathers and sons than mothers and sons. Not that his mothers weren't important to his development, but Superman's two dads had the biggest impact on who he is. That's what this movie chose to focus on, anyway.
Pick-up artists and the people who follow their advice are truly the scum of the earth. The good news is that almost all of those people are laughably pathetic and ineffectual.
Max Landis is awesome. I'll never understand why he gets so much hate on the internet. Do a commentary for Chronicle and invite him on. He'd fit right in on the couch.
Well, obviously Act 1 is pretty much the same. Starts with Bruce on an airplane, headed to the wrap party for DIE HARDEST in LA. He gets there, argues with his wife, and then the fans attack. And because it's a Galaxy Quest thing, they've meticulously created a situation that exactly mirrors the plot of the original Die Hard. Bruce gets isolated right off the bat.
Not to be a complete pig over here, but I'm kind of into your friend Brooke.
Heh. Brooke's been like a sister to me for years. And I already have 3 sisters, so that's saying something.
She's actually releasing an EP soon, by the way! Can't believe I didn't mention it. I've listened to it, and it's lots of fun.
Awesome! My friends are so much more talented than me. My friend Brooke, for example, is a really talented musician.
Goddamn this is cool. I'm sure that Eddie and other people who are more familiar with comics will have more to say about this than me, but I think it's a really interesting way to re-do the Death and Return storyline without just doing the same thing with minor detail changes. The deaths in that battle are shocking, although they do feel a bit thrown in just for shock value. I guess you get to do that when you're doing a whole new universe.
Like Zach Braff, Spike Lee is using Kickstarter to preserve his artistic vision. Interesting.
I had the misfortune of watching Epic Movie on cable once. It is more devoid of good than any other movie I've ever seen. So I'm going with that one.
