I was listening to this track the other day and the Going to the Mansion thing came up and it reminded me a lot of the movie Hollow Man.  I thought that movie had a lot of potential to explore what it would do to your morality if you could no longer be seen.  The movie started out ok, although obviously the science was bullshit. The final 3rd of the movie totally went to the mansion.  The guy you couldn't see all of a sudden had super powers and couldn't be killed.  Not only that but he had the remarkable ability to never get dirty for more than a couple of seconds at a time.  Trey mentioned Hollow Man in another commentary that I forget, something about somebody that worked at a visual effects company asking him his opinion on taking on the project and his response.  They totally did there job but that movie seriously needed script work.  I've watched Hollow Man more times than I care to admit but I ended up with a decent Rifftrax-esque commentary for it.

I use to enjoy Hollow Man way more than I probably should but recently it has dawned on me just how ridiculous the way it portrays him. It's like, Kevin Bacon would have snapped and started killing people regardless, but invisibility just made it happen sooner.

Pierce Brosden as Thomas Crown (Thomas Crown Affair)

Sean Connery, for all the bad of LXG, does a fantastic job. Thomas Crown Affair is one of those weird films that I really grew in to and started to appreciate from a film making perspective, with the bowler hat scene and the craziness of the whole thing.

Link that shit!! We have a creations forum for just such purposes!

Yeah, that's a second on this one.

I cannot see pictures from this movie without thinking of Teague and his hatred...

and yet, this is so Teague.

I've added to my three and they all video game related. Come on, there is bound to be a good video game adaptation SOMETIME!

Anyone?

Anyone?

Well, I'll wish for them anyway.

1. Deus Ex. One of my favorite PC games of all time. It is very cyber punk as well as a combination of many conspiracy theories that have circulated around the world (think National Treasure but less world history and more global domination). It is also has a dystopian atmosphere where the world is on the brink of a global pandemic, hence the subversive organizations slowly taking more direct control.

2. A Halo movie, as mentioned by BDA. Weta Workshop has done some props and such for the concept work. It doesn't have to be about Master Chief, though that is the obvious first choice. If I were to make a movie about the first game, I would mainly use the novelization to start off with.

However, as indicated by "Forward Unto Dawn," you can have a Halo movie without Chief being the center protagonist.

3. Perfect Dark. Another one of my favorite games of all time and again takes a more conspiracy theory aspect, but involves more with aliens and science fiction settings than Deus Ex. You definitely can do more with the spy style movie with this one, starting with a heist and building towards the war with the aliens.

Edited to add my choices and fix typos

Guys, thanks for the positive feedback both here, and through emails and whatnot.  We have the next two tepisodes planned in terms of content, if not recording date.

Ep 3:  STORIES WE TELL and OVERNIGHT (with Trey and whoever else)

Ep 4:  DECEPTIVE PRACTICES and THE IMPOSTER (definitely with Teague and also possibly Trey).

Ep 5:  WEST OF MEMPHIS with my fight watching buddy, Geoff LaTulippe.  Still have to find a second film with that one.

I am looking forward to all of these but especially Episode 3.

I decided to revisit it just to analyze its flaws. Here's the biggest one: the movie doesn't trust the audience. The evolution CGI sequence is explained by unnecessary dialogue instead of relying on visual storytelling. Basically, it's the Space Odyssey series for idiots. There are visual "homages" to both 2001 and 2010 and a direct quote from the latter film (although, to be fair, the "piece of cake" line might've been accidental). In the 1950s, Mission To Mars would've been very impressive (especially when compared to typical sci-fi flicks of the era), but now it just feels hokey, dated and derivative.

If I recall correctly, this movie starts out ok, but then fizzles when they get to Mars.

Have you thought about watching/rewatching "Red Planet?"

Or so I've heard.

Glad I'm not the only one wondering these things.

I mean, a coworker of mine was just relating a story of a high school wrestling team who had a girl on it. After a bout between her and a male opponent, the guy stood up and was a little excited and it was obvious.

Maybe I'll never get it but I do wonder...

Ok, I'll play.

1. A Starship Troopers film more in tone with the book, rather than the more satirical Verhoeven work and spin offs. Liked it as a teenager (kind of) but prefer a more serious portrayal of the world.

2. Second a proper Dune creation. As much as I enjoy the miniseries It really doesn't work as well as it could have been.

3. A movie based upon my scifi story (that I will someday rewrite and flesh out) smile

Well, Farscape was 17 years after Dark Crystal, and in those 17 years the Creature Shop did Labyrinth, the Dinosaurs tv show, the Ninja Turtles movies and a slew of other things.  I dunno how much there was left to prove by the time they got to Farscape.  smile

And even Dark Crystal was pretty much universally acknowledged as a great technical and design achievement for the Creature Shop and Brian Froud etc... it just didn't catch on with audiences.   For me, I remember the coffee-table books were far more interesting than the movie itself.

That's fair.

However, it was an excuse to talk about Farscape wink

Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Frankenstein (stage play) though I personally think he is fantastic in everything smile

Ok, whatever, wasn't the point. The point being... it's one of the few movies in a style where most people would be tempted to put in a human or two (e.g. "Labyrinth") but Henson didn't. And I'm happy for it....!

Unfortunately, it probably shares with Fantasia the fate of doing so poorly it killed the idea. Disney swore after Fantasia he'd never do a film aimed solely at adults, despite that being where he really wanted to take things, and Henson put a human in Labyrinth after the blowback from Dark Crystal. Oh, if only Dark Crystal had done well, the things Henson might have done...

Not to derail the thread, but I wonder if that is why Brian Henson took on Farscape. Much of the creature work on there was really to demonstrate the full ability of the Henson studio, including having two main characters as products of their Creature Shop.

One creature (and the inspiration for my research) is similar to Dark Crystal creation. Check it out:
