People say 'slow' to mean 'boring' but it's 2 different things. Chinatown's a pretty slow-paced movie by today's standards but it's not boring. You have to be into the story.

Movie suggestion: how about Hannibal? Other than the Juliann Moore character being kind of a bitch (no wonder Jodie Foster turned it down) it's a great looking, well acted (Giancarlo Giannini's amazing, i can't believe it's the same guy who played the emperor in Frank Herbert's Dune around the same time) movie. And that dinner scene is crazy crazy.

My 2¢: The only superhero movie i love is The Dark Knight. I enjoyed Iron Man because of RDJ and the great fx but the story was just ok. The fact i've never read an Iron Man comic didn't help - i was more of a DC guy back in the day.

In the Rifftrax, during the scene in the office with Jeff Bridges they say something like "just fix yourself a caucasian Dude" that cracked me up.

The Godfather's not boring to me just because it's 2011, it's an interesting story. If you've seen bits of it out of context all your life and are sick of it, you can't blame the movie for that. Try to watch the whole thing with fresh eyes.

I couldn't get into Once Upon A Time in America. It was the 2 dvd one, i think the director's cut. De Niro looked half-asleep to me, i had to give up after 1hr. I'll try again some day.

I actually enjoyed that.

"That's No Moon River"? Ok, you win.

Dude, nothing's as fun as gay bingo.

Beldar, check the earlier podcasts. They did Avatar a little bit after it came out on DVD.

Damn, my memory's going.

I'm only halfway through it, the first time i'm reading a script. It's very visual, the first third has lots of quick scenes showing defining moments with VO by both a narrator and Napoleon.

It also has 9yo Napoleon saying "fuck off", and pretty ladies at a party "with their breast completely exposed which was the fashion at the time."

Stanley Kubrick's unfilmed Napoleon from 1969. At the top of his game, he spent years researching, it's a shame he couldn't get it made.

Ah, good info. Maybe he should just produce. On the other hand with Freeman acting it's less likely to turn into a Will Smith or Tom Cruise vehicle, which isn't what i'd like to see from that movie.

I find it interesting they had to add a FAQ page about the world not ending in 2012. I guess "It's not cool to burn witches. Here's why." is coming soon.

I couldn't agree more. Perfect Blue is one of my favorite movies of all time. Paprika has one of the best opening credit sequences of all time. I like Millennium Actress and Memories better than Tokyo Godfathers, but it's still very good.

Thanks Trey, on the mentioning of Heist i just watched it and enjoyed. The Sam Rockwell character was a little stupid but i enjoyed the actor. Good movie.

If you like old school please check out The American. I swear it's like it was made in 1975, in a good way.

My favorite Mamet movie is The Verdict. I lurv Paul Newman in that movie.

Oh yeah, i liked this episode very much. Fun to listen to.

Yes, sir. All those height-of-pre-cgi-vfx TIE fighters racing past us (just before Doomed Asian Dude screamed "There's too many of them!") was a thing of beauty. Just pretend you didn't see the infestation of matte lines.

Hee. The whole political side of the oscars cracks me up. I'll say Inception, but that super-fast snow while the van falls off the bridge bugs me.

I thought the LotR marathon was coming out next week. wink

I understand why people say it's boring but if you get that it's all about the suspense of what comes next, it's a great story. It's been a while but i seem to remember one of the astronauts was a polygamist or something. Good luck putting that in a Hollywood movie today.

Fincher's choice of Morgan Freeman is a little odd. He's in his mid-70s, who's he supposed to play?

2 things i remember from the original viewing: The way the speeder chase unfolds felt like a video game. Like they were setting up the game tie-in. The first time i felt cynical about SW. And the 2nd deathstar was underwhelming.

I don't hate ewoks in general but there's way too much of them in this movie. They throw great parties, though. The scene with Carrie Fisher and that first ewok is wrong somehow - she'd be a lot more imperious, and might straightup murder it on the spot. Her voice is low in Jedi, was she a chain smoker back then?

DIF might as well do the special ed, nobody cares that much about jedi and it'd give you a chance to talk about the special ed's in general. Next up, Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure!

edit: There's stuff i like too. Luke's a real Jedi (but not really: "Last mistake you'll ever make." "Hohoho.")
The slavegirl bikini. Nuff said.
R2 as an undercover agent working as a waiter. I swear to God someone needs to write a Chinatown caliber story with R2 as the gumshoe. Zarban when you're finished with ManBat vs Clam Demon could you get on that please?

I hope Avatar's on the menu. Other than the obvious exposition at the start, the more i watch it the more i like it.

Meanwhile DIF has maintained a solid level of quality week after week—with, I might add, 95% less belching and racial slurs than almost any other commentary group.

I feel the need to say that a strategically placed burp can be hilarious, and that i like chess but i'm a lousy player.

Yeah, i recently saw it too. It was great to see Tom Hardy. He was so meh in ST: Nemesis. I'm not a big Leonardo fan but he was good in this. I loved the way they didn't stop to explain everything, kind of the opposite of Avatar in that sense, but to be honest i was lost a few times. It might actually be good to get the first viewing out of the way, so i can enjoy it now. hmm

The invisible harmless PG-13 bullets annoyed me. Did it look to anyone else like the snow was falling at 100mph as the van fell in the water in slowmo? Antichrist did it better with a budget $150m smaller. Inception didn't have a porn monster shot either.

Overall it was great but i wish Nolan was a little less... mainstream.
