Why?
It felt to me that OST is like a movie with the same settings and time period but is not a pirates movie.
Sort of like a space adventure movie that just happened to have Darth Vader in it.
But again that's just my opinion.
I would say the reason why the first one works so well as opposed to the sequels (mostly AWE) is that they are making a statement that Jack is a pirate but also a good man, So when Will tries to free him at the end, the audience wants to see Jack (the good man) escape not necessarily Jack (the pirate).
In the next 2 (because OST does not count) They make the all the pirates out to be good guys, when they are clearly not.
AWE especially, becomes real Bull Shit with that sorta Avatar routine, where they have to make you care for the pirates, who no matter how funny and entertaining they are, they are NOT good guys. A crack down on pirates is not a bad thing. We even see it in the first movie.
Then the Avatar theme becomes real apparent as they seemed to make Becket the biggest jerk as they could so we don't like him, even though what he is doing is not necessarily bad. So they do things like have him kill Elizabeth's father because (he's the bad guy here) and the pirates are the victims.
At the end of the first movie, we are rutting for Jack, but because he's helping the british fight those nasty pirates!
Just saw it. DON'T BOTHER!!!
I honestly do have a little more respect for them ewoks after watching this
O Jim Cameron you always have the best ideas with out a doubt...
Sorry Brian, but I have to agree with this guy on the matter...
Im sorry. Spelling has never been my thing, and probably never will be. I get that kind of reaction a lot from people wondering why everything is spelled wrong in whatever I'm writing about, which makes me quite stupid. I will say however I was born with a learning disability so I english in general I have trouble with.
Ok, so some time back I was watching Spider Man 3 in horror as the film got worse with every scene. I so applaud that I thought that I could have easily written a better story. So I did. I thought my version felt much more true to the characters and much more audience engaging.
The point is that I had a lot of fun doing a re wright for SM3. At the same time however I thought it would be just as fun to read other peoples (who are proabably better writers then me) re wrights of the same movie and others that are universally scene as bad movies (like Dorkman's prequel re wrights.)
So I was wondering if there is a website where people can post their re wrights of like a selected movie every month or so. I truly think it would be fun for people to read and push each other to wright smarter and creative.
Thoughts?
Watching the Incredibles is so much fun. One thing I noticed was that the Incredibles was the first pixar film I saw that did not have a over all message directed at kids. Not a bad thing just different. This may not even be true, it was just things in the previous films that I interpreted and perhaps was not meant to, but I do personally think that it was put in there intentionally. If you don't understand what Im saying here I'll try to break it down for you.
Toy Story had a story about making room for another family member in the way kids have to handle a new baby brother/sister. A kid may feel like woody seeing as that they are getting less love and attention as the baby seems to take over there parents life.
Bugs Life was about being different. Telling kids its ok to not be like everyone else, and especially kids with who have a sort of birth deficiency or trait that makes them feel like the odd man out, but like flicks unique mind it is what makes you special.
Toy Story 2 seemed to be making a statement to kids about enjoy being a kid wile it lasts. Woody sees there are perks to giving up the world that he new but would miss the fun. Kids may talk of wanting to be adults faster but being a kid is golden time live and should live it to the fullest.
Monsters inc. had (again what i thought to be) a powerful message about how people treat others before knowing them. The monsters would scare the children and think nothing of it. In the same way that a group of kids may pick on a kid who was some how different from them. However when sully got to know boo he felt awful when he scared her and then did every thing he could to help her get home. This movie was also the first that seemed to be able to aim at kids and adults, seeing as in many adults are prejudiced, also one reason sully is so big and tuff.
Nemo also had dual sort of aim to kids and adults but this time 2 stories to tell. Kids need to learn that their parents don't let them do some things because they love them and don't want to see them get hurt. Wile parents need to learn that the point of being a parent is to raise your kid to be able to function on their own and be able to let go.
Then came the Incredibles, which is the first pixar film i saw in theaters and the first pixar film i saw that I didn't feel had that recurring theme of a message to kids. Again not bad (in fact somewhat refreshing) but it was the first one i thought was sort of not your typical pixar film.
The point being that despite that typical pixar element missing, as far as i can see most kids (most grown up a bit now) still see the incredibles as one of Pixar's best films, which means changing the forum and taking a risk can really pay off if you know what your doing.
Ok so I just had my first class of film directing at my local community collage I joined in on for fun. However I felt something was really wrong with the approach to it the teachers took. Basically they gave us some actors and 1 page of a script with just the dialog in it and nothing else, and from that alone they told us to direct out the scene. Now call me crazy, but I just don't see how that is a useful exercise for learning Directors.
Maybe I'm totally out in left field, but with no characters, story, or ideas at all to work with how are we suppose to direct
Am I right or could someone explain to me what the point of all that was?
Wow Twilight and New Moon back to back, Everyone at DIF must either really hate themselves, or wanted an excuse to buy the expensive hard core booze.
Just watched this for first time in way to long, but what I love most is that the character of Spengler is my dad! He looks just like him and acts like him to. He loves that scientific type of thinking and he is the head of the science of division at our local community collage. The line "i collect spores molds and fungus make me think of him. When i tell him he is like him he cant help but agree for the most part.
Thanks for the link, that was interesting. Do you know when that doco was made?
sorry I just kinda stumbled upon it
Maybe Trey would know
I dont know if anyone has seen this but i just found a cool VFX making of star wars
Trey, did you like the 1963 pink panther?
Does anybody else think my dog sounds like a Tauntan?
October Sky perhaps? I really enjoy that movie!
Also, everyone knows the Alien prequels are dead, right?
Well anything Alien related will be better then AVPR!
If i'm not mistaken a They Live remake is coming out and I remember reading somewhere that they might ditch the sunglasses part.
And The Thing remake or sequel or prequel whatever the fuck it is. I assume is just going to be another stupid remake flop like basically everything else these days.
Would you guys like to do a They Live commentary!
Holly Shiiiiiiiiiiittttt!!!!! A real life Ms. Carmody
this girl might just be the sickest fuck in america
The thing that always bothered me about super man is that he is practically invincible so there is nothing really at stake other then other people getting hurt which drops the tension. (for me at least)
