See, that clip is missing the Joker laugh. That really is what sells it
Retweets of responses to Affleck being cast:

"Ride now! Ride now!"
I love spaceships
Oh, I fully expect he'll snap one day and reveal that he still has a backdoor to PayPal and has stolen a trillion dollars. And cars are now under his remote control because they licensed Tesla technology. And he can shut down all Hyperloops at will. And he can shut down the electric grid because it's now 30% SunCity solar panels.
And we can't touch him because he flew to his orbiting headquarters by his personal SpaceX rocket.
Well, when you put it that way...
I'll take a dozen!

I would totally be down with Richard Dreyfus playing the Joker's father.
Him or Mark Hammill, of course.
Yeah, Mark Hammil does a great job for the voice acting. Be nice to see him take a shot of live action.
Well, you have a fair point and it is an interesting thought experiment. However, given the contingency plans the company I work for has in place for things that are implausible, I would say that many companies have similar polices.
However, almost everything nowadays is open to suit so it is possible
Not totally germane, but on the topic of jamming cell phones imagine this scenario: you're a theater and you jam the cell phones - lots of people have weather apps and whatnot - and there is a terrible storm just south of the theater and the national weather service issues a warning. Nobody received these mobile warnings because you jammed them AND you didn't make an announcement over a loudspeaker.
The theater is probably liable for a negligent tort for any weather related accident that a patron suffers. And a big payout.
That kind of scenario is a good reason to not bother jamming. Why even open yourself up to it?
The only problem I see is that they wouldn't announce the bad weather. Bad weather is kind of like gossip too. Not like people are going to run around keeping it a secret.
I mean, there is still the radio and TV for weather reporting too. It's not like cell phones are the only means of communication.
I suppose it's possible but I find it a bit implausible.
I'm just baffled why he would want to do it. He's an A-list director coming off a best picture win, and these are exactly the kinds of roles that led his career into a nose-dive 10 years ago. Why would he waste his time as an actor in a comic-book movie like this one, instead of focusing his efforts on getting another quality film made? He doesn't strike me as a guy who would do a role like this just for a paycheck, he's gotta have truckfuls of money at this point in his career (not to mention his successful wife). Unless this is a case where Warner Brothers said "we won't finance your next movie unless you do us this favor" I have literally no idea why he agreed to do this. Maybe if he was directing it also, I could see it as him wanting to try playing around with that kind of budget, but doing it just as an actor? It's crazy...
Maybe because he wants to. I mean, in all honesty, planning Batman is still a bit of an iconic role, regardless of the ups and downs of various films. Keaton was not exactly known for his dramatic roles, yet presented a pretty solid performance. Christian Bale nailed the brooding but honestly was more memorable for his action pieces and voice than being a well rounded character. Honestly, I felt his Bruce Wayne parts to be somewhat...lacking, or not as commanding as his Batman routine.
Affleck could honestly be wanting to do this role because he wants to try it out and see what he can do with it. Personally, the fact that he is an A list director means that it probably isn't for the money. It is for the challenge of the role or the fun of it. He might just want to have fun. And why not?
Honestly, it would be nice to see an actor who can present a Batman who is slightly more balanced and able to be both Bruce Wayne and Batman.
Dorkman: "He also played Woody.... Make your jokes here."
THERE'S A SNAKE IN MY BUTT!.... (I'm sorry)
Teague: "Water! My only weakness!"
Brian: "Just like in the movie, Signs!"Well, she IS Green!
Anytime I hear the line, "Surrender, Dorothy," I am happily reminded of the Scorsese film, After Hours wherein a character is mentioned yelling that out whenever he climaxes during sex.
This disturbs me on a number of levels...
Well, pretty interesting.
I'm guessing Afleck always wanted to play Batman...
^^
This needs to be a movie now. I seriously almost cried because I have had similar situations (no ironic play though-unless you count watching Moulin Rouge...no, that doesn't really count).
Yes, yes, I know, several movies have the whole "love but can't have" theme, not the least of which was "Anna and the King" that I just watched. Just, the ironic twist at the end makes it so much more palpable.
Anyway, thanks for sharing
What do you guys think about this?
I get where he is coming from because I often feel that way regarding "Star Wars" or "Star Trek" or any other film that i have read the behind the scenes on. I think Lord of the Rings is the one that still creates that sense of "Whoah" for me, that this is a world and it is amazing. Might also relate to the endurance of "Game of Thrones" too.
Regarding science fiction, I think there is almost a nostalgic part of me that wishes space travel was like sci-fi movies and you travel fast, and easy in ships. Calculating reaction mass and astrogation is not that interesting all the time, and space is actually quite large and takes time to get to places.
Now, I grew up reading Heinlein, and he was a hard scifi guy, doing calculations for starships for his novels and really taking the time to create harder details.
One of the reasons that I have a hard time writing my own science fiction is the struggle between being harder and more realistic, which requires a TON of research and mathematical understanding that I lack, or more space opera, which then removes the idea of creating a future Earth
So, I get where he is coming from, but there is a point were I can be drawn in and enjoy the world as a world and not a film production.
Hopefully, that makes sense.

I'd watch it.
I would also watch a film about the making of reality TV show.
I think I read one book of Tekwars, but I never got in to it. I did watch the movie, but again, same reaction *shrugs*
I'm listening to the audio book again. I think it is one of those where what you get from it depends on what you're bringing to it. Not pavement, but rather how you're willing to consider the points it brings up. It's not as smart as it thinks it is, but it presents interesting ideas.
One thing I've realized is the movie is going to toss out almost all the fun stuff. I just can't see the film being this... psychologically cruel to the hero. Also, I doubt the first third of the film will have a 6 year old Ender.
Well, there is potential there if they go more with Ender's point of view in that Ender never knows that he killed the kid, or the extent of the damage that he had done. So really, the could just paint the commanding officers as complete and total psychotic people using this kid.
Yes, I'm sure they will reduce the really nasty stuff but there are ways to have it there but more as subtext, which is something the book does.
Thanks for doing this movie.
I've been encountering references to it all my life, so, a few years ago, I've finally decided to watch it. It brought me to tears; I was sobbing like a little girl. What a charming piece of film.
Re: the female protagonist... Who's the most popular role model for modern girls? Bella Swan. An unlikable bitch with no personality to speak of. Go figure.
Boy, now we can have a mash-up of Bella Swan singing "If I only had a brain..."
I'm sure this has been posted before but it's fun:

We talked a bit about this in the RAIDERS commentary, if I'm not mistaken.
I'll revisit that one, thank you.
Yes, I am behind on the times. We all know that. Personally, I'll be excited when I get cable next month
I am a huge history fan so a movie like this is normally right up my alley. However, it took some persuasion from my wife to let me know that this was closer to history (not precisely but close) that "The King and I" which I was more familiar with.
The quick run down (for those unfamiliar with any incarnation) is a British school teacher has been hired by the King of Siam to tutor his eldest son and eventually the entire royal family (some 72 children and wives and concubines). In the process, Anna becomes an ambassador of English culture and knowledge, while also developing a great respect for the king of Siam, King Monkut. In the process, she becomes enamored with this man, even as she mourns the loss of her husband.
This is a great film, with some amazing scenery, all shot on location in Malaysia with some amazing sets. It also has a very multilayered story, where you have the cultural clash, the political pressure, the personal struggles and tragedies of the different characters. The movie seems to teeter on the edge of movie expectation rules, then subverts some tropes, while embracing others.
Despite being over 10 years old (now) the film holds up, but is very, very long. I told my wife that it's two and a half hours long and she's like "There's credits." When all was done, it was maybe six minutes of credits. So, it is a long, long film, that has many expository scenes, varying plot lines rather than a through line of one person, aspect of Siamese culture on display and interesting twists and turns.
Good film, especially if you like historical drama, but please be aware, it is very long.
I have a week off of work and am more than willing to help write. Not sure if I can fill the gaps but I am willing to at least try.
I heard more about him in the news than anything else.
Sorry, past ten years have been in school and such
Just read an article that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was Sean Connery's last film
Please tell me that is commentary worthy?
But it's not "Seven" it's "Se7en".
Se-seven-en
So, a movie title works better if you can count poorly and write poorly?
*starts taking notes*
