If I could make a mild suggestion, could you guys post what will be released ahead of time like you use to? When you know it, naturally. I've noticed a number of recent episodes have been released without enhancement so it may be there's lots of last minute substitutions, but I reduced my Netflix to one disk at a time so knowing what to have in the queue when is very important
The thing about Doctor Who, at least the original, is once they started airing them as "movies" instead of 25 minute episodes in the US order didn't matter. There never was much continuity between stories apart from maybe them landing on the next planet at the end of the previous episode. I kinda wish the new version would go back to that... also, if you're going back to the series now keep in mind that even more then Star Trek it's very hit and miss, and each era is different. The original dynamic (grandfather, granddaughter, and two teachers who have a thing for each other) was never really repeated unfortunately. Someday...
As for the movies, yeah they were an attempt to market the Daleks outside the UK. They're adaptations of the first two Dalek stories, but the originals are oh so much better.
You guys have reminded me of one of the more interesting 7th Doctor stories, Ghost Light, which like many from that era had too many ideas and not enough time/money. An alien in the past was sent to catalog everything on Earth but was frozen, and when he awoke he found everything had evolved and thus his catalog was useless. Rather then start over, he though it would be easier to just kill all the new things and catalog what was left
Gotta be honest, I'm hoping the gods don't realize it's up there until after they're safely on the ground

Reminds me of a sports betting website that use to run radio infomercials at the same time I was making a delivery at work. One week they were talking about using their experience to tell you who to bet on, including the hint they knew how the games were to be fixed, and suddenly one week they're touting a computer program that's running simulations. No mention why the change. It was also amusing that the program used 100 variables which were mostly subjective...
Naturally if true it doesn't matter how much others suffer as they're all you. Sure, at some point you're the one suffering, but it may have already happened and you won't remember anyways.
Phi wrote:I don't know what Zarban is talking about it being dull. It's like watching an impressive performance at a circus. There are no breaks or pauses or cuts around flubs; what you see is what was performed on set. Damn impressive.
I think we're learning quite a bit about Zarban. Not only doesn't he like live theater, with its fixed view point, but life itself as seen through a persons eyes must frustrate the hell out of him
It is a rather fun retelling, with interesting references to the book for fans to catch. I was surprised you guys didn't mention the first movie at all, or the TV series, and obviously you're not familiar with the rock opera
FixedR6 wrote:At the end of the day all Transformers media exists to promote the toy lines; the cartoon series and the films are just there to drive sales. From that perspective, the film works. It's dumb and explodey, but the target audience are tweens; what do you want, Shakespeare?
It's interesting here to look at the anime Mobil Suit Gundam. Bandai in 1979 told some animators, "give us a 30 minute a week commercial for robot toys". What they came up with was a rather serious anti-war show that far transcended the intentions of those paying the bills. Not perfect, no, but damn it they TRIED. A show aimed at 10 year olds with a teen lead piloting a giant fucking robot was treated as a serious war story. You CAN do both.
The fun part is the Japanese public loved that Godzilla as well, as it was everything the Japanese films of the past 20 years weren't and had a better budget. This is exactly why fans hated it naturally
The Mummy is another case, like with King Kong, where it would be interesting to look at all three versions (1932, 1959 Hammer, 1999)
I think Primer and Clerks would make a fun double feature, as you can compare two different ways to do a low budget first film.
Sid and Marty Krofft laugh at the weak drugs the Teletubbies creator took.

Yeah, that's the one. It's a silly movie that knows what it is and has fun with it. The last "classic" Carpenter film, really, as the movies from the 90's are a much more mixed bag. His previous film, Prince of Darkness, is one of my all time favorites and one of the few horror movies where the idea itself is fun.
As soon as they say it's off the table, I have no problem letting it go. Till then we keep bugging you
The plan, assuming they stick to their guns, is for them to do an all day tag team commentary for all three LOTR movies (probably the extended versions). Needless to say some of us are waiting for a day to be named so we can clear our calendar.
That would work, and naturally within the main show you can point people to the existence of these (the whole point being to use the DIF audience as a starting base audience for the new shows). I'll point to Irreligiosophy again as an example. They did include the first episode of the spin off podcast The 2nd Law in their feed, but after that they simply noted new episodes in the news portion of the front page.
It would depend on how good it is, naturally
My respect for someone in one area often doesn't extend to other topics. Do it, by all means, but something in that vein should not use the DIF podcast feed imho unless it's using films as a jumping off point.
Well, nunsploitation should be saved for the regular podcast, as I'm sure there is a couple different films they should do.
It is VERY common, in other podcasts, for them to put out extra episodes containing interviews they've done with other podcasts or whatever else doesn't fit into the current format. Sometimes this is used as filler instead of a real episode, sometimes it's a bonus for that week, and sometimes... it's used as a reward for donations to the podcast. You can also have spinoffs. Irreligiosophy recently had two sets of people who had been guests on their show start their own podcasts.
I'm interested that none of you made the obvious Jesus connection in the story. Spielberg, being Jewish, toned it down a bit but in the novel which I had it was more pronounced. I mean, ET shows up, gathers some followers, heals the sick, dies, and comes back from the dead before going off into the heavens.

Sounds like something you could set in Alan Moore's TOP TEN, about a city made completely of super heros and the cops who try and keep them in line.
(I am surprised that one hasn't been adapted into a film yet)

They've introduced consumer-centric products and stuff, but this is the first time I can think of where they dramatically changed a flagship product at the expense of their high-end customer.
I recall outrage when they streamlined their Mac Tower options and really cut down the number of internal PCI slots (opening a market for external solutions). However, nobody outside of the high end market heard any of the bitching.
They've drawn a line and said, "Fuck y'all it's like this now". I'm interested in what this means for the pro market. This opens a void in the professional space that will likely be filled primarily by Avid, but I think this is a huge chance for other players to roll in too.
You know, I just had a thought. Apple started creating these various Pro applications because software companies were dropping out of the Mac market and it was either create the solutions in house or see market share drop even further. Now that they're doing so well, and developers are really jumping back into the Mac market in a big way, why not clear the way for some of them by dropping out a bit?
Are they starting to gear up to tackle Lord of the Rings?
Project A-KO- it started life as part of the first anime porn series (Cream Lemon), but at some point in development they realized they had something special so they dropped the sex and made a great comedy. And, yes, it's named after Jackie Chan's Project A.
The Irresponsible Captain Tylor- If you like your science fiction with large space battles, you might like this TV series. A very zen 20 year old joins the space forces because he wants a pension, and ends up in command of a ship as a major war breaks out. Can doing nothing and surrendering often win the war? Or at least get the girls?
Six String Samurai- a low budget movie about a Buddy Holly look alike who is traveling through post-WW III and Russian occupied America to reach Vegas and become the new King now that Elvis is dead. Lots of sword fighting and general coolness.
