If we're able to express a preference for which of yesterdays commentaries gets 'published' first, can I put my vote in for Priest. That was the one I was most looking forward too, but my lousy(?) internet connection meant you kept cutting out and then died  sad , so I went to bed. :wohisme:.

And what the heck has happened to Christina Hendricks?  I know it's been a few years since Firefly, but did she let herself go just for this film?

Don't know about "letting herself go" but she defn had a blast.  tongue

^re: The Shining - you're using the 2h24min version, rather than the 1hr59min one, right ?! - apparently Europe got the shorter version (why, I don't know).

It's been a while since I watched the film, but from memory: while being a huge fan of Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz, I found Paul just not funny. Can't point to specifics (not helpful I know  mad ) but "too much Nick Frost " springs to mind. As a supporting actor, yes, but as a co-lead (more screen time thus they needed to flesh out his character, adding depth, adding range), no.
As for it completing the Pegg/Frost trilogy, hmmmm, I think I'll wait for the next Pegg/EdgarWright film for that trilogy to be completed.

Any word on whether this weekend will see another 4some (or rather 3.5some) like last week, or are yo'guys taking a break ?

One of your team was trying to come up with a movie that built things up to a great payoff goodie -vs-baddie battling thing at the end (I'm précising it bit). What sprang to mind was Equilibrium, with its ending being a number of fights with ever increasingly skilled opponents, until the finale uber-boss (so to speak) and the gun-kata tangling.  smile - Oh yes, and howzabout Jason vs Freddy.  tongue

Haven't read previous "error" posts so my-bad if this has been mentioned

-> is it considered an error if, when viewing the main page (using the Opera browser) at any zooming level above 100% (my poor eyes needs bigness), that menu options ABOUT ARCHIVE BLOG & FORUM don't appear on screen, them having been zoomed out of view. ?  sad

Quick question: will it be Sucker Punch the extended edition, or the other one ?
- btw: hopefully your team, with all their movie knowhow stuff, will help change my view that the end is one right big downer. sad

I did try to do one for 2012. But after 2 relistens all I could come up with was 4

Dorkman losing the will to live at 6:40
Dorkman doesn't care about anyone, so shut the fuck up at 26:50
& there being no white people in the White House (apart from Oliver Platt)
And Kids in movies are dooshies at 37:36

( ok, maybe 3 1/2)

After that I couldn't think what else to note down, which might not go down too well with the team who would not doubt feel they must have said something else interesting / funny / informative in the other 160mins.  So I threw in the proverbial towel and had some chocolate.

You give out points for trying, right ?!  smile

Maybe the film would have had a bigger audience (people rewatching it and bringing along newbies) if the ending hadn't been such a downer. Yes I can appreciate that "upon closer examination the ending made sense and the whole purpose of their journey was to free the only freeable person, blah blah blah"... or something like that, or even nothing like that. But looking at the movie as simply a collection of sexy ladies engaing in a whole bunch of elaborately coreagraphed(?) fantasy fight scence - which sometimes that's what I'm in the mood for - I was rooting for them all to escape, thinking that's what would happen, then within the span of ~5mins, 3 had died (1 stabbed, 2 shot), and the main heroine left a brain dead zombie (wtf); the only one escaping being the one of the group I'd been least interested in.

Was it too much to give us (well me) a happy/ cheerful ending? sad

^methinks Temple was less popular cos it full of a hapless dumbass woman. And whenever there's a hapless dumbass woman in an action movie, you just know... you just know when they're escaping that the darn hapless dumbass woman will trip up and cause themselves and the hero to be caught and then the hero will get tortured all the while telling the hapless dumbass woman it wasn't her fault (when of course it sure was). - of course I've not watch Temple for aaaggesss so I could be wrong.
