It's Tesla's all the way down
ok, just found a tidbit on imdb that talks about "their dialogue is translated falsely in the subtitles", so they are in the original movie. this makes waaay more sense than having large chunks of a scene where the only english word is "patton"
however, i stand by my original statement, you get the gist of what they're saying...and it was a unique way of seeing it.
with regards to Patton, i actually just watched it the other day. Unless it was just a weird glitch on Netflix, none of the german scenes are subtitled. but the great thing is, with a well placed "Patton" and a map, you get an idea of what they're talking about. I didn't remember that from the first time I saw it.
I'm not sure if i remember seeing that in any other movie.
Has learning that a decent number of people listen to the podcast independently from the movie changed your approach at all (less specific references to what's on the screen..that sort of thing)?
"Heineken? Fuck that shit! Pabst Blue Ribbon!"
I'm glad you guys covered this movie. solid discussion.
The first time i tried watching the movie, it was super late and the dumpster scene scared the shit out of me. I realized i probably wasn't ready for whatever this movie was....so i waited a few days and tried it again.
I love the weird, emotional glue this movie uses to tie scenes together. granted, it's not a linear story, but the story isn't even really the point, imo. it taps into that dream state where your questioning everything, but unsure how you got there.
Also, i feel like acid or at least some travels deep inside (and out of) your head makes a film like this easier to digest. You're not instantly rejecting the logic (or lack there of) of the film, but more letting it wash over you.
Michael Bay Says 'Transformers 2' Was 'Crap'
Director Michael Bay has admitted what many of us have long alleged to be true: "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" was nothing but big-budget "crap."
"The real fault with ["Transformers 2"] is that it ran into a mystical world," Bay told Britain's Empire magazine. "When I look back at it, that was crap.
the electric chair? that seems a little excessive
looks like i picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue
howdy folks. so i thought this might be the perfect place to link some tunes (projects/sonic stuff/whatnot) that i've been working on.
I have zero video skills, just happen to be a film geek. but my main area of interest is audio mixing/recording/soundscapes. I thought some of you might be interested in throwing some visuals.
if not, that's cool too.. either way, here's a couple of my pieces.
amen. i used to live in the Gaslamp District and spent many of my unemployed hours at the Field and the pool hall (that i think is now gone).
I gotta agree with Eddie.. Tron hit me at the perfect time. as a 5 year old it made a pretty big impact on my view of sci-fi and cgi.
but more importantly..Eddie.. is The Field the irish bar you were talking about?
hang on....you're telling me we're supposed to sync to specific movies?
this changes everything
wow. that's was frickin awesome.
well that doesn't sound like very much fun
*uninvites invid to christmas party*
That's a lot of Mike's Hard Lemonade
sounds like somebody is afraid of the orange curtain
so i just watched this movie the other night. I feel like it was part interesting and part trainwreck.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone about what exactly happened with this movie. Is it fixable? Is it essentially just an extended Twilight Zone ep, but they couldn't figure out what to do with it?
There were so many WTF moments in it (not the good kind).
and really.....those that control the lightining? what?
If the movie is anywhere near as entertaining as this thread, i'm all over it...as soon as i can figure out what this movie is all about.
Arnold just signed a decrimilization bill.

under an ounce is now an infraction.
but as someone who lives in the Bay area....it's essentially a non issue
Eddie - what's the name of that book that you've mention on DIF a few times..pretty much the editing bible? i always forget to write it down, and i'd love to check it out. all my experience is in splicing audio and i'm curious about the visual aspect of it.
If i'm going off pure memory...it's Rad. I mean it has Bart Connor and a backflip on a bike. However, I can only vouch for it's awesomeness from the 9 year old version of me. There's a good chance it's a giant steaming pile of fail.
And damn you Eddie.... Real Genius is my second pick..such a classic.
"Good. Because all of my filth is arranged in alphabetical order. This, for instance, is under 'H' for "toy." "
Sorry dude, but your theory is complete bunk...you wanna know, how I know?
Jim....Carey.
And the fact that any movie with Eddie Murphy in a fat suit, isn't really all that funny.
Although doesn't dissuade Dane Cook being an unfunny hack.
since i don't want this lingering on the internet for years to come... i was being very sarcastic about the fat suit part... but the Dane Cook part is all too real
