The nature of the ending we could go round and round on.  You could as easily argue that the movie ends before the top topples over, or that it never topples over.  My wife made the point that at the end, the top does start to wobble a bit before the fade out, where as every other instance of the top in the dream world (where Dobbs performs his first inception, for instance) it was perfectly still as it spun.  That's as valid as any.  I love that it really does not clue you in one way or another.

I agree with most of what Mike said, but I'm ok with Ellen Page's character.  In the scene with her and Dobbs where she's moving shit around, he made it clear (to me at least) that what she can do...ANYBODY can do in the dream scape.  He just made it clear that she shouldn't because the more you do that, the more you make the subconscious attack you.  Remember as soon as she started moving shit, his subconscious became more vicious with her.  Additionally since they establish Cillian's character as having stronger defenses than most, they would retaliate harder if they started bending walls and shit.

But yes.  I absolutely loved it.  I love how Nolan makes complex ideas, but with a very emotionally appealing center.  The stuff with Mol and Dobbs at the end really affected me, and the entire time my brain was very happy with a deliberately structured, grounded, sci-fi.  Movies like this (though with its flaws) make me very optimistic about filmmaking going forward.

Yup.  I will be one by Friday night.  Any DiF fans that want to informally meet up with me or internet funny-man Seanbaby can find us drinking wednesday through friday night.

No Greg, you just insist on datamining and finding commentaries early.

Showoff.

Haven't gotten through the whole commentary yet, but whoever brought up In the Blink of an Eye is my new friend.  I brought it up during Watchmen or FMJ, and its nice to see Murch get his due.

I just want to bump this to ask Eddie: after what we just saw against Carwin, and taking into consideration what just happened to Fedor... how do you see a Brock/Fedor fight going?  I admit, I don't have nearly the MMA expertise as many who disagree with me, but from what I've seen I really think Lesnar might have the tools to beat him.

A totally legit question.  One that I'm not sure I can answer.

I think to beat Brock you're going to have to inflict sustained damage to him.  I know Fedor can inflict that damage.  I also know that Fedor usually only walks around at 225 and Brock has to CUT to 265 from 280.  I also know that if Brock wants you down, you're going down.  While Fedor's submissions form the bottom are slick, I think Brock is a little too saavy now to get caught in the kind of armbars Fedor throws up.

I think Fedor can be Brock, but I also think Brock can beat Fedor.  The match I'm MORE interested in seeing, is Brock vs. Allistair Overeem.  When I met Overeem in 2002, I was filming a documentary that involved Chuck Liddell training with some of the guys in Holland.  Holland, has a tradition of strong Muay Thai fighers (Rob Kaman, Ramon, Dekker, etc.) and I thought at the time "Wow, this skinny tall kid is gonna be sharp someday."

This was before Allistair consumed nothing but horse meat and turned into UBEREEM.  I think Allastairs combos would keep Brock guessing, and most importantly, I think Allastair would use footwork to keep Brock moving enough to where he couldn't settle in for a takedown.

Its not gonna happen any time soon, and yes, Cain Velasquez is gonna make Brock WORK to keep that title, but I like Overeem/Lesnar as a matchup.

Sparring matches and tournaments were completely different.

I understand what you're saying.  Again, in a street fight there are a million variables.  No two fights are the same and while it would be nice to end it quickly, even if you do everything right, there are no assurances.

Requiem,

I'm of a similar mind.  I studied Kung Fu and got my Black Sash at 18.  At the same time, I was doing a lot of JKD and entered in a bare knuckle Karate tournament called the Shidokan.  They have it in Chicago every year or so.  Anyway, I felt a limitation of what Kung Fu could offer me in terms of practical fighting.  I transitioned to Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and haven't much looked back since.  I love Kung Fu, and many of the principles of how to strike remain true, particularly with energy transference and the physics of striking, but the techniques were a little on the lower percentage scale of things for my liking.

As for taking two hits before ending a fight?  Well, mileage may vary, but I don't necessarily agree with that.  Sometimes you'll take no hits, sometimes you'll take a bunch.  The number of hits seems less consequential than the effectiveness of those hits.  One strike can put you down.  Conversely, I had one guy punch me in the face I think ten times in one sparring session, but I could time it and was always at the end of his punches, so aside from a red nose, it didn't do any damage.

Oh yeah, and, uh, Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut. Since the three commentary tracks on that 194 minute movie just were not enough.

And there's a lot to say about how excising the son diminishes Sybilla's role as a character foil as well as a romantic interest for Balian, making the theatrical release totally suck.

Recently at the Labs I was singing the praises of the KoH Director's Cut and how its a COMPLETELY different movie than the theatrical.  I hope we can do it some day

If I had an alternaate universe choice, it would be Last Starfighter and Last Dragon.  I LUUURRRVVVV Last Dragon.

1) & 2) Wall - E/ The Incredibles (on any given day I prefer one to the other)
3) Monsters Inc
4) Toy Story
5) Ratatoulie
6 ) Up
7) Finding Nemo
8) Toy Story 2
9) Bugs Life
10) Cars

That's damn hard to think about.  Havent seen 3 yet, but Im sure it'll crack top 3 without much effort.
