Haven't seen TS3 yet either, but

1. Toy Story
2. Wall-E
3. Bug's Life
4. Incredibles
5. Cars
6. Finding Nemo

Those are all the ones I've seen and really enjoyed.  I haven't seen Up or Ratatouille, and the others just kinda fell flat for me.

When.

3. The Incredibles
4. Ratatouille
5. Wall-E
6. Finding Nemo
7. Bug's Life
8. Toy Story 2
9. Up
10. Cars

And that's a hard list to make. The only thing I'm positive about is TS1 > TS2

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

Sub question, rate Toy Stories. And with a sentence or two of reasoning.

I go, TS3, TS1, TS2.

Toy Story 3 destroyed me, which is more than I can say for the other two. I grew up with Toy Story, and Toy Story 2 was kind of moving (especially when they stopped trying to be discrete and had a sweet, acoustic pop song narrate the heartbreak of Jesse's world), but Toy Story 3 made me cry like the woman I am. I'm a ridiculously sentimental fag when it comes to these sorts of stories, and I blubber like a child at the Fantasmic show at Disneyland, so I might be on the fringe here. I can see arguments that TS3 is retreading aspects of the first two, but I see it more as - look, these stories are inherently similar anyway, and I see Toy Story 3 as the one they got right.

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

I will return to this conversation once I have seen TS3, but as it stands now, TS>TS2, but only by a small margin, and I'm fairly certain most of that has to due with the fact that TS was literally THE movie I grew up on for the first 10 years of my life. But all in all, I do really enjoy TS2 and think it's really quite good.

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

1.  The Incredibles

Then,  literally in no particular order because I can't choose among them and you can't make me.

Ratatouille   Monsters Inc.  Finding Nemo

Next, only slightly less awesome, on an awesomeness scale that is still entirely awesome:

Wall-E, Toy Story, Up

Near the end, only because it's been so long since I've seen them that I don't remember them.    I'm sure if I watched either of them right now I would love them.

Toy Story 2, Bug's Life.

10th  because I haven't seen it yet:

Toy Story 3

11.  Cars

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

1. Up
2. The Incredibles
3. Finding Nemo

4. Wall-E
5. Monsters, Inc.
6. Toy Story
7. Ratatouille
8. Toy Story 3
9. Bug's Life

10. Toy Story
 2
11. Cars

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

Maybe it's just me, but how Toy Story isn't in the top three of all these lists is astounding to me.  That movie is nonstop incredible, and easily the funniest other than maybe Incredibles.

When.

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

What Trowa said about the spoilers? I just wanna point out that I have my own shovel.

Anyway, I think "A Bug's Life" deserves more love than it gets, generally. I love that film.

But for me, "The Incredibles" is the one that broke through. I suspect it'll always be my favorite.

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

1) & 2) Wall - E/ The Incredibles (on any given day I prefer one to the other)
3) Monsters Inc
4) Toy Story
5) Ratatoulie
6 ) Up
7) Finding Nemo
8) Toy Story 2
9) Bugs Life
10) Cars

That's damn hard to think about.  Havent seen 3 yet, but Im sure it'll crack top 3 without much effort.

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

1. The Incredibles
2. Wall•e
3. Toy Story.  Funny and clever and a hell of an acomplishment CGI-wise. Remember the big deal made about Terminator 2's CGI only 4yrs earlier?
4. Finding Nemo
5. Toy Story 2.  Pretty much as good as TS1.
6. Ratatouille.  Looks beautiful and has some of the best animation of any Pixar movie but Linguini's too retarded.
7. Monsters, Inc
8. Up.
9. Cars.  When i saw the 1st teaser trailer i thought 'uh oh this is gonna be awful'. Then when Steve Jobs sold the damn company i thought 'he's selling before this flop comes out'. But i liked it ok.
10. Toy Story 3.  Just watched it. Meh. I didn't feel the fun and wonder from the 1st one. Nice ending.
11. A Bug's Life

I agree with this, and for much the same reason as you give. There are scenes in TS3 that choke me up just thinking about them, let alone what they did to me in the theatre, which alone makes it #1. They also manage to pay off things from the first two that I'm betting weren't even really intended as setup, and that's pretty outstanding quite honestly.

I think I prefer TS1 to TS2 because it was more universal -- everyone had toys and it was easy to relate to the idea of old toys having to deal with a new toy. Similarly, we all can relate to outgrowing our toys, and the question of what happens to them after we're done with them, which is a big part of TS3.

Whereas TS2 is oddly specific -- I don't think everyone has had the experience of having a toy stolen by a collector and nearly sent to Japan for viewing in a museum. It feels more like a TV episode than part of the grander journey of the secret life of all toys.

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

TS3 just didn't hit me.  It didn't hit me NEARLY as hard as UP, where I was a grown man sitting in a theater wiping tears from behind his goddamn 3D glasses.

Nobody take this the wrong way, but what exactly was in TS3 that made it so emotionally powerful?  As Fig mentioned, I had some issues with the fact that it was essentially the same plot as the first two, but aside from plot beef I'm just not sure what was in that movie that people connected to so deeply.

EDIT:  To answer the question, I'd go TS1, TS3, TS2.

Branco:

The last third, specifically the sequence where they all start holding hands as they slide down towards the incinerator, and then very strongly at the last moment where they're all getting played with by Andy and the little girl.

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

1.) Monster's Inc.
2.) The Incredibles
3.) Toy Story
4.) WALL-E
5.) Toy Story 3
6.) Ratatouille
7.) Toy Story 2
8.) TIE: Finding Nemo/Up
10.) A Bug's Life
11.) Cars

This is a tough one. I legitimately love all of these films, excluding Cars, which I don't have any emotional attachment to. I really did grow up with these. Even though Up is fantastic, I'm not as attached to Carl and Russel as I am to, say, Woody and Buzz, or Mike and Sully. Cars is the only Pixar movie that I really don't like, and even that one is okay without the bar set by the others.

The movie was about saying goodbye, and how do you accept the end your situation/life. This will affect some more then others, and I freely admit to crying more then is usual due to several losses in the past 15 years smile

Of course, he wasn't selling the company, he was getting Disney to pay him $7 Billion to take over Disney with John Lasseter (the same thing he did when he got Apple to buy his company NeXt). It's a good deal if you can pull it off.

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

Sure he made billions (in stock) and he's now he's on the Disney board but it's not the same as the Apple thing. In '97 Apple was a disaster and everyone wanted Steve to take over, plus he had something to prove.

Lasseter's a creative type so he'll never run Disney, and Steve'll have his hands full as Apple keeps getting bigger. And don't forget his health.

Re: Pixar movies, in descending order of preference.

Having now been properly versed in the ways of Toy Story 3 (SO AAAAAWESOME), I now present my revised ranking and preferences.

  1. Monsters Inc

  2. Finding Nemo

  3. Toy Story

  4. Bugs Life

  5. Incredibles

  6. Toy Story 2

  7. Toy Story 3

  8. Ratatouille

  9. Up

  10. Cars

  11. Wall-E

And if you can't figure it out already...

TS>TS2~=TS3

I'm having issue deciding between TS2 and TS3, but give it time.
