Has anybody mentioned Patton?  Wow, what a good movie!  I'm watching it on BluRay and it looks phenomenal.  All the practical shots hold up really well.

Great little scene during a battle, where Americans shoot down a German plane.  Instead of blowing up an expensive plane, they have it fly behind a hill and then have a big practical explosion.  Beautiful filmmaking.

When I started the commentary on my iPhone on the drive home, it was somehow already in the middle of the podcast.  And I hadn't played it at all beforehand.

Some crazy voodoo at work here, I'm telling you.

Crap, my game has evolved so much that I'm not qualified to play it anymore sad

Just finished the commentary.  Was really good.  One thing I wasn't such a fan of was how they glossed over River's moment just before she goes into her dance of death.

Every time I see that scene, heck, sometimes even when I just think about how she delivers the line "My turn" I get teary eyed.  Very poignant line, delivered perfectly.  Hits me right in the heartstrings.

Has anybody suggested Stardust yet?

Cathy Bates.  She's an actress, right?

Okay, so I work for a company () that has retail stores () doing tech support for MP3 players, tablets and cell phones ().  But a few of us in store have a game we play, as baseball fans.  One of us starts with a name, we'll say Jason Varitek.  Now I have to come up with someone whose first name starts with the first letter of the previous guy's last name.  So I say Vernon Wells.  Next person in line has the same deal, Will Clark, and so on.

I reckon we could have a good time doing the same with actors and actresses.  The only thing... no repeats.  Doubles are allowed, ie, Daryl Strawberry to Stephen Strasberg.

I'll start off with... Kevin Bacon.  Go!

You know that's from the TV show Doug, right?

Yes, I know.  Doug was a mainstream television show, however, The Beets Killer Tofu tour was only mentioned a few times.  Therefore, an obscure reference about a mainstream show.  Furthermore, the store I work at has lots of employees about my age, so they grew up with Doug.  And they didn't get the shirt.

Perhaps it's just my proximity to Boston/NYC, because I've honestly seen it on New Yorkers more than Bostonians.  It's just... I dunno, it seems like one of those Hot Topic shirts.  And when I shirt for a cool indie hits Hot Topic and I see it every other day, it seems to me the movie has jumped the shark (not proper use of the sentence, but the idea is there).

I only remember Willem Dafoe's hilarious performance in Boondock Saints... the rest was a bit shite (or at least forgettable).

If that were true, why does everybody and their mother have that stupid t-shirt with the two leads on the front and their prayer on the back?

Don't get me wrong, good movie overall.  Just HATE that stupid t-shirt.  And people who memorize that prayer.  You're not cool.  You didn't invent it.  Bugger yourself off.

Good suggestions.  I think what makes the Fast and the Furious so bad is that it's the exact same as Star Wars in one aspect, and it doesn't work.  The technobabble.  You can go on and on in Star Wars or Star Trek with the technobabble, but since there's nothing really to base it on, we buy it.  Or what is based on reality is researched enough to work.

But the Fast and the Furious doesn't hold up to me like that.  "Granny shifting, not double clutchin' like you should" is a line that I suppose sounds good on paper, but you'll not notice a single actor in the movie double clutching.  It's a horrible idea for racing, because double clutching is slow.  You actually push in the clutch, go out of gear and into neutral, feed out the clutch in neutral, then push the clutch in a second time, go into the next gear up, and clutch out one final time.  Truckers double clutch.  Cars from the 1920s double clutch because nobody had bothered to invent synchros yet.  And don't get me started about frying piston rings, overnighting parts from Japan, and what 200 shots of nitrous does to transmissions.

Okay, I suppose that's the end of my rant.  Maybe tomorrow I'll post up my credentials to rant and rave about car stuff in my introductory thread.  I have some pictures and videos of my autocrossing.  Think I have a shot of me at the awards dinner as well, in my jacket where I won my class.

Alright, I've been thinking about this a lot in the car.  The car, of course, is where I listen to my Down in Front because I drive a lot to and from work.  And I have to come to a few conclusions.

First and foremost, for God's sake, Top Gun.  What's more awesome than fake-MiGs blowing up, and a chick driving a Porsche 356 Speedster.

Secondly, you need to do The Fast and the Furious, but you need a car guy with you.  I'd volunteer, but I'm in Connecticut.  But I'm an actual, legal, trophy-winning race car driver, so if you know how to make the connection work, sweet friggin' deal.  I'll suffer through that horrible, yet amazingly quotable out of context, movie to help out.

Additonally, I wouldn't mind seeing some representation from Mel Brooks or Tony Jaa either.  And Blues Brothers, too.  Since it's obvious that nobody can get enough Carrie Fisher.

Just finished this commentary up, and I do have some things to say.  A lot of times, it was mentioned that the commentators wanted a "grittier" Spiderman.  There actually is one that exists, one that is anchored in a more "this universe" feel.  And that's Spiderman Noir.  Set in the '30s, it's a great read, with villains who are more grounded in reality (if I recall, the Green Goblin is actually a crazy, hump-backed circus freak) and things of that nature.  I certainly recommend it; who knows, maybe that will be a good movie to make because, as was said earlier, it's the noir style movie and it's got a very gritty feel.

Well, I suppose I might as well do one of these.  My name is Ben, and a lot of people here might know me better as 'delta' or 'deltableh.'  I've been a long time (LONG TIME) registered member at NP2k, and I actually met Teague, as well as Ryan, Michael, Trey and Amy at Fanzillicon many many moons ago.  I, however, unlike most of the NP2k people, have not turned into a filmmaker.  I'm just an IT guy for a major tech company that shares its name with a fruit, and an amateur photography and race-car driver.

As I have a long drive to and from work, I decided (after my car was broken into and my XM Radio stolen) to start listening to DiF and have been hooked ever since.  I saw on the Twitter feed that Serenity was being recorded, and I had to sign up.

If you want to follow me on Twitter or Flickr, I welcome it.  I can't wait to chat with more people about movies and stuff; it's the trivia that I'm sure you all know that I really enjoy about movies.  Also, I'm looking forward to when the boys run out of movies and have to DiF Dazed and Confused.

Thanks for having me.

Alright, I signed up just because I saw you guys were doing Serenity.  Teague, I officially hate you now, especially because you're doing this while I'll be at work.

In all seriousness, I can't wait to hear the commentary.  It should be wicked.  I already listen to various ones on my drive home from work.
