My mom turned 13 on Friday the 13th, which I think served her well. My sister was married on June 6th, 2006 although given how that went it was a bad idea smile

Better yet, Brian could just do the entire episode himself.

He could call it Finifter In Front.

Down In Finifter?

Down In Finiftront?

Up Out Back.

Well... you know, in the past the idea of "bonus" episodes came up (in the context of doing say a regular commentary of Serenity and an extra one with some of the FX guys). If Brian wanted to talk about The Shining, is there a reason he couldn't pull together three others and go for it? Or would such a thing open up a pandoras box and fracture what little glue is holding you guys together as it is? smile

I suppose that's possible, all's I know is that i got hold of a bootleg VHS many years ago that was definitely a longer version of the movie.  It may have been  a non-US release version, but I really have no idea.

The box set I have also has a European cut, but I'm not sure how that differs from the first two.

Again, it was kinda cool since I liked the movie anyway, but I wouldn't have shown it to anyone as their first viewing, the released version moved faster and was generally better , IMO.    Usually "missing" scenes were cut out of movies for good reason, I enjoy them for their educational/bonus value, but the number of times I've thought "wow, they really should have left that in" have been extremely rare.

Very true, but again things are different for a genre where censorship is a major problem.

theatrical is better, as with many movies the extended is fine for people who already love the movie and want more of it, but a little slow if it's your first viewing.

With many horror movies, especially from the 70's and 80's, the theatrical cut has is usually a butchered version to get a R rating so directors cuts are preferred. In the case of Dawn of the Dead, though, the "directors" cut according to wiki is a ruff cut done quickly for a festival and the theatrical version is the preferred "uncut" X rated version.

It's an updated version of the live concert version, with giant inflatable puppets and all. He's doing a ton of dates, and going old school by staying for two or three nights in larger cities. It's well worth traveling to the big city to see, especially as given his age this is not only your only chance to see this but it'll probably be his last tour. I'm sure he's hitting Florida at some point.

... just got back from seeing Roger Waters' new tour of The Wall.

You know that feeling when you discover you're too late to experience something, that you'll have to go through life wishing you had been around or an adult a decade or two earlier so you could have gone to this incredible live event but it's never to be, and then suddenly you have a second chance and it in fact is as good as you always hoped it would be?

See this show. The eventual DVD will NOT do it justice.

Plus, it may have gotten to the point where the only way to fix it was to start over (if not the entire movie, at least the second half). When the only other option is to get another boat and that's not possible, rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic suddenly gains appeal smile

Ah, OK. Maybe Teague got an advanced peak, which would explain why he didn't just link to the article on their site.

Speaking of which, there's a showing this weekend of the original 3D version of Creature from the Black Lagoon as part of the Buffalo International Film Festival (yes, it surprised me as well ^_^). I'm probably going to go, making it and the uncut print of Metropolis my two festival experiences. Unless I also do the 35mm print of Evil Dead next Saturday...

No, they have the word right, it's just that they don't understand it's 50 hours of footage that's being cut down to that over long 3 hour movie. Actually a movie editor is probably closer to the editor of an anthology (as opposed to a normal book editor), deciding what individual pieces to put together to make a whole instead of what to cut out. But, that's not how the term is usually used... hell, I tend to have an immediate negative reaction on hearing anything is "edited" smile

I have to admit the only thing that would get me to go see any of these is if the new version of Star Wars put in all the Biggs scenes. I've avoided anything converted to 3D, but when it's shot for 3D that's a different matter.

Actually, my first thoughts on hearing this were a) if anyone is going to really put the money and effort into doing good conversions, it might be Lucas, and b) the last time he did re-releases with a gimmick it was to fund new upcoming movies. Given this is a 6 year plan he's mapping out, is it leading to something?

Seems to be working. Some search results were interesting- would have thought 'bts' included Men in Black, and 'goth' got no results despite The Crow. Also no results for 'sex', 'robots', 'models' or 'stop motion' smile

I really think Brian's mistake was, as he himself has phrased it, reading into the movie instead of out from it.

Duncan Jones doesn't know that Brian Finifter wants to see "the APOLLO 13 that hasn't happened yet." It's not his fault that he didn't make the movie he had no idea Brian was going to think he was making.

And there are a few movies and books I've avoided because they looked like something I needed to avoid, only to discover I was reading the wrong thing into the ad/description. Although, to be fair, most of the time if I see them I find I was right to fear them smile

Can't wait to listen to it. Just because I know you're not that familiar with podcasts, I'll mention that it's not unusual to put outside interviews and the like into a a show's regular podcast feed between regular episodes. So, if you wanted more exposure for this and had their permission that might be a way to go.

I've never sought out the animated version of Sanctuary, as like I said the live action version is good. In both cases production probably started before the comic ended, but the movie stops at a satisfying place. Rereading the manga I'm three volumes in, and it really is fun seeing an insider's take on another country's politics. The whole "we have to destroy the economy and bring in cheap foreign labor so the Japanese youth will get off their lazy butts and be strong again" angle is fun. The proud Japanese are now office slaves ruled by old men, and these two guys want to make it a society they'll be proud to live in. The fact that in real life it took over another decade for one party rule to be seriously challenged and young leaders to rise up also makes and interesting counterpoint to the story.

You're welcome smile This has made me pull out my copies to re read it. The manga goes on a bit too long, a usual problem as either the publisher doesn't want a good thing to end or the creators like the paycheck. The same duo did Mai the Psychic Girl, the story Tim Burton wants to turn into a rock opera.
As for the movie, it never made it onto DVD in the US from what I can tell. I really have to track down a copy. either the old subtitled VHS version from Viz or something digital...
