There's no point in the article where he ever says as much. However, the idea of defining yourself by what you don't like rather than what you do like is a very adolescent one, but seems permanently arrested into punk as he defines it.

That was the point I took away from it. I just feel like punk started with an adolescent mindset and refused to grow up. MXPX is a great example with their song "Responsibility"

O_O
Wow...just wow. There is a lot in that article but the overall point is very good and clear-"It was fun in high school but time to grow up." It is interesting how many points of that "counter-culture" that is quickly eviscerated in that article. I mean, there are some that I have rolled my eyes at for years but then I was never punk or cool wink

Thanks for sharing. Good read

I LOL'D. Yes they are, somehow, very cute girls despite being my daughters.
Also, to slightly add something more relevant to the topic at hand, I like my mother-in-law's canon camera for its fast shutter speed. Working with kids, being able to take several photos at once is a must. They don't like to hold still for long wink
Also, good infor regarding file types. I am the typical layman who thought that mp3 and jpeg were a good way to go. So, it is nice to hear about compression and other file types that will make it easier to do photo and audio work

Then we're on the same page, because Deus Ex's soundtrack was made by the exact same guys who made Unreal Tournament's soundtrack (Alexander Brandon, Dan Gardopée, Michiel van den Bos).

Did not know that. I feel like I learned something today.
Also, Teague should know that this is a compliment as I love the Deus Ex sound track.

Dude, seriously. I'm tired of having to tell you that you're awesome.

Gravity's my favorite one. It has such a great atmosphere. And I always love this kind of smooth reversed sounds. As I said on Twitter, it reminds me a bit of some tracks from Black Mesa's soundtrack (remake of the original Half-Life game). And while Engage has some Daft Punk tones to it, the synth bass with the drums take me back to Unreal Tournament and its amazing soundtrack. Yes, I relate much to video games.

I'd love to know a bit more about how you made all that (gear, software), too.

Funny you say that because Engage reminded me of some tracks from the Deus Ex video game sound tracl

Sorry, I guess the more accurate statement would've been "Western" action film. The main distinction was versus Asia, where they know how to stage great action scenes and do it on a regular basis. It's only in the West that its unique lately for an action movie to actually have good "action" you can follow in it.

And Eastern films to have more mindless action...I guess we're trading off styles between the sides wink

Their whole filmography is not impressive. American Graffiti (which, according to IMDb ratings, is their best movie) bored the hell out of me. It felt dry and wooden... just like a typical George Lucas film. I turned it off after 40 minutes.

Ok, I had religion in school, and Kali is not some evil cult goddess. She is the Goddess of eternal energy, the Punisher Of Evil, and is very popular in mainstream Hinduism. Kali is not Satan.

Most Western writers tend to think in terms of "Good" and "Evil" as described by Christianity or Judaism. For example, they almost always turn the Greek god Hades into an analogue of Satan. Some of them just fail to grasp the complexities of other religions and mythologies. Others simply assume that viewers are too stupid to understand concepts other than "100% Good"/"100% Evil".

I'm currently rewatching Stargate SG-1. For some reason, the writers decided that Sokar (an Egyptian deity) is Satan  big_smile

This trope is called "Hijacked By Jesus".

Interesting trope though the fact that Sokar in Egyptian mythology was associated with ruling the afterlife or the underworld, the idea that a Goa'uld would take on multiple personae to different cultures is hardly new. Besides, no Greek god could be called good wink
And I had religion in college too and while Kali is not "evil" in Western terms, her deity worship has been associated with death cults and the like. The Thuggee cult was a real organization devoted to Kali and performed assassinations and robbery, which probably led to the visage of Kali being "evil" after the British disseminated information regarding the Thuggees. This is also where the terms "Thug" comes from.

The 360 shot reminded me of this part in Stargate: SG-1 episode "The Warrior." The whole scene is pretty epic but if you want the sexy shot go to 23 second mark.

Really stoked up about the new Chronicles of Riddick.
Also, Katee Sackhoff (sp?) plays a Merc in it as well. Vin Diesel posts production pics on his Facebook.

Die Hard 8 - McClane dies.  Hard.

To be honest, that would be an ending that would return the series to its roots - although it should have been maybe the third installment, before McClane became a full-on cartoon character.

Could have been a hell of a movie to have the original McClane - the one that could actually get hurt - go up against a foe and (presumably) win, but get mortally wounded in the process and croak at the end.

Of course in Franchise-World where we live, this would never ever happen.   Interesting to think about, though.

Yup, I hate to say it as I love (original) McClane but they should have killed him off at the end of 3. They planned on killing Martin Riggs at the end of every Lethal Weapon sequel but that never worked out. It would have been better if they kept the original planned ending of LW2 and have him die although, they'd probably just team Murtaugh up with someone else.....

Cue...Chris Rock

Honestly, it would be good to kill of McClane, but like Trey said probably not going to happen.

I like the multiverse idea though wink
