That actually sounds more appealing to me than SDCC. I'll have to check that World Science Fiction Convention out sometime...
I've been going since 2008. I won't be going this year because I'm saving up to go to Hong Kong for the Lantern Festival.
When I went last year, I basically decided to just go with the flow and sorta let things happen rather than go in with any sort of set schedule of "i'm going to hit this panel at this time." So, I was walking toward the convention center and I walked up to the Top Gear display they had on the sidewalk. Got a nifty lens cleaning cloth from them after filling out some form for a competition they were having that weekend. Didn't think anything of it afterwards, until I got a call from the Top Gear Producer the next morning telling me that I had won the contest and me and one other person could go to this party that Top Gear was hosting in one of the hotels near the convention center. My buddy and I went to the hotel and got to shake hands with Kate Beckinsale, she's tiny by the way. We go to the party, have a good time. When we leave the party towards the evening, we run into Fricking Mark Hamill!!
Now I've made it a point not to get star struck at these things, I mean these are human beings just like you and me. They all feel the urge to go to the bathroom every now and again. But this particular time, I got a little start struck. Mr. Hamill had his back to me and I simple said "Mr. Hamill?" He turns around and has a almost look of horror/confusion on his face. "Could my friend and I possibly get a picture with you sir?" "Oh, yeah sure that's not a problem." So we got pictures with Mr. Hamill. He even did the Joker laugh for us!
G.I. Joe 2 got pushed back from June 29th to March 13th or whichever... Discuss
sounds like he may have shot super 35 with a 2.35:1 aspect ration in mind for final release. Which means he'd of cropped the image in post to fit the 2.35 aspect ratio. At least I think that's right... Dorkman, did I get that right?
The Abyss is on Encore HD as I type this. The picture looks sharper, but the aspect ratio is 4:3. I hope they release it next year as 16:9. Trey, did they originally shoot Abyss at 4:3 using Super 35mm?
any way to get ahold of the Prometheus script? It appears that the studios have sent out a lot of cease and desist letters to websites hosting scripts... This is sad from an educational standpoint, at least a little...
Well that Damon Lindelof guy has written tv for most of his career. His previous movie writing credit is Cowboys vs. Aliens. And we all know how bad THAT thing was. Jon Spaihts' only writing credit is that Darkest Hour flick. Haven't felt the inkling to see that one...
This movie screams horrible writing. How could Ridley Scott have ever thought this script was good?
isn't the idea that there isn't a market for small genre films more a perception of hollywood suits that has trinkled down to the creative types?
All right so here's the $10,000 question, and I think this was touched on a bit by the DIF crew during one of the first intermissions (I think I now how you will answer too), can one "graduate" from Youtube and really go for it and make a name in feature filmmaking. Or is that just a happy place pipe dream?
So, I've seen Ark and Just finished Episode 3 of Video Game High School. I was wondering what everyone here thinks of the Web Series that are out there. I've seen some of the Fall Out 3 Nuka Break series. That one was sorta fun. VGHS seems to have cool visuals, but no strong story yet.
Discuss your favorite web series and what does and doesn't work in them.
Is Werner Herzog primarily a doc guy? I haven't seen many of his films.
Teague, when do we get the "I'm doing this Ironically" t-shirt?
just a quick question; is there a story in the prequeals?
Middle Earth. Although I would think Endor would be just as fun.
Let's go to human psychology, How do you greet a someone you've never met for the first time? Are you inclined to: smile and say hello, avoid eye contact and pick up the pace in your step, or nod as they approach?
Tony Jaa to play Bruce Lee's role. After seeing the Ong Bak films, I think he's got a good handle on the different styles of fighting. 1st floor- Dan Choupong. 2nd Floor- Nakamura Shido? 3rd Floor- Donnie Yen. 4th Floor- Jet Li. 5th Floor- Michel Qissi or a Younger Bolo Yueng??
Which movie do you believe is the perfect example of filmic storytelling?
This Means War or Battleship? And why.
Viggo seems pretty normal to me in that video. How different did you think he'd be?
Comic conventions are not solely a U.S. thing. There are several that take place in Japan and there are some in France. In fact, I believe the largest takes place in France in which they shut down an entire town for 4 days.

i don't remember seeing a suggestion for Big Trouble in Little China, but i say do it. So many great set-ups in that movie! Besides, you need to do more Carpenter material.
That extra special guest during the Iron Fist of the Obsidian Sith commentary had me nerdgasm during that episode. That's one commentary I'll never forget! It's a shame I can't find it anymore... Teague and Dorkman singing at the end was a huge plus!
sometimes I have the commentary playing along with the movie. I also listen to them in the car on the way to and from work.
very interesting episode! Jeffrey is a great addition to the panel. I'd love to hear a Trey/Jeffrey/Dorkman panel. The three of them are so articulate it would be like smooth hot chocolate in the morning. I don't have many conversations like this very often either. I think I'd get along well with you guys in RL, but I'm quite an introvert.
Saw this a while ago tonight. I spent much of the time giggling at this movie. I pretty much saw what you guys saw in the movie except I took a different idea away from it. The movie isn't really saying, "so, you thought this was torture porn. Don't you think there's something wrong with that?" It was saying more along the lines of: "look at how we manipulate you with our little stories." At a young age, a person who watches movies or tv, picks up on how a movie or tv show is supposed to work. In a way, said person "gets" that in order to be satisfied by entertainment, it MUST adhere to certain guidelines. If the entertainment in question does not adhere to said guidelines, that the person feels unfulfilled. Cabin in the Woods pulls the curtain back for the audience to see the Wizard is just a dirty old man. I see where you guys are coming from in the commentary though. Really fun movie. I'll have to pick it up when it comes out on Blurry.
I've know since middle school what the 3 act structure is. Learned a little bit about the 5 act structure. I'm starting to look a little closer at the different story structures and was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations on books to pick up and whatnot.
Also, can pretty much every movie fit the basic 5 act structure? I'm thinking the first two Star Wars movies (episodes 4 and 5) could easily fit the 5 act structure. Especially Empire IMO.
Thanks in advance.
