I'm not saying Black Widow is a completely flawed, bad character.  What I am saying is that her kicking ass in Iron Man 2 (which I totally dug for what it was) tends to be the singular characteristic of strength for a woman in a modern film.  Now, Black Widow in Cap 2: The Cappening, is FAR more interesting, and her strength comes through in ways other than face-punchery.  And again, there's nothing wrong with women facepunching.  But, and I should have been clearer about my reference being limited to Iron Man 2, if facepunching is all you give me to indicate that this female character is strong, then that's not really enough.

I have far less issue with Little Mermaid than I do Twilight.  As a father of 1 boy and soon to be another, all I can really offer this conversation is that Twilight is a movie I want to watch with my son to explain how NOT to deal with women (provided his orientation turns out to be hetero).  I don't want my son thinking that the relationship between Edward and Bella is anywhere near normal or healthy, and that real love does not behave in the way articulated by those two.

Adorable.

Yeah, I echo that as my only criticism.  In any kind of military setting, you don't put a deserter on the front line.  Historically, it leads to more loss of life on the battlefield.  If a guy doesn't know how to turn the s afety off of his weapon, he is extraordinarily dangerous on the battlefield.

That aside, I really, REALLY enjoyed it.  Rachel did too.  It was sic-fi not because of Laser Booms, but because it used a futuristic premise to dive deep into Cruise and Blunt as characters.

Yeah the books depict repelling off the wildling attack south of the wall a day before Mance lays siege, which is when Stannis shows up. I'm decidedly in the "nothing wrong with this episodes ending," camp.

Lilo and Stitch

I think if anyone is turning evil, it's Bran.

Still prefer the original title.

Y'all know it was based on a comic book, right?

What we DO know is that GRRM intended for the Battle for Mereen to be in ADWD, but editorially had to be shifted.  We also know there will be a battle at the Wall.  Both of these things will happen within the first ten chapters of TWOW.  We also know Bran will be reaching deep into the north rather early, as GRRM has confirmed we're hitting The Land of Always Winter.

Combine those things with Aegon and Grif already having landed in Westeros, and Victarion with magic dragon horn (which technically Danny is the only one who can blow it and live) and an assload of ships, I think it's safe to say TWOW will have as much going on as SOS.

doty

I think he did well.  Part of the only problem I had with the TV version of him is that his sensuality was given more real estate than his subdued, yet always present anger.  In the books you never once forget that revenge is his prime motivator, and in the show, it was lost in the shuffle of orgies.

I think Pedro Pascal could have portrayed a closer to book iteration of Oberyn (easily in my top 5 favorite characters in the books), but it would have required a different look, wardrobe, etc.

Here's an idea of the tone of Night of the Hunter

I don't have admin-y powers, but I'm gonna go ahead and say it now: please, PLEASE no Ep 7 Set photos.  I count any set photo as a spoiler and they should be under the spoiler banner.

Hey y'all.

I did a week over at VICE's food channel and edited a few How To's.  This is the first one that I co-edited.  I did this in a few hours.

In terms of physical training, I would recommend some solid core work and lifts that improve your thoracic chain (Deadlifts, Turkish get ups, etc).  Planks are always good too if you want to go the weightless route.  Increasing your muscles anaerobic threshold will mean you can go longer with less shake.

I'll record mine tonight when I get home

Yes, the Robert Mitchum NotH, directed by Charles Laughton is what I refer to.  It's easily in my top ten of all time.  It's this bizarre dust-bowl/noir/fever dream.  Some really amazing imagery for the time, incredibly lyrical, creepy as hell, with a fascinating antagonist.  It's still on Netflix streaming I think.

I would love for you guys to do Wings of Desire, but unless someone has some hidden love for it I could see it not working out. Although the fact that it has an off putting Nicolas Cage remake might make for some good discussion.

I like Wings of Desire just fine.  Don't know if I could rally the crew around it.  I'm trying to curate Night of the Hunter, currently.

I want to reiterate my point here.  I'm not talking about overall quality of each film, I'm talking about wether or not they were movies ABOUT the Xmen.  It's like Superman Returns.  It's not about Superman, it's about Lois Lane and a guy who lifts stuff.

There's tons of awesome film knowledge to be had outside of SoCal, though.  Toronto, New Mexico, and Austin are cities that see a ton of production and have great film communities.  As a result they get a lot of cool events.

I think DOFP works on it's own as a movie.  I enjoyed it.  But in terms of living up to te theme, that's where the digression occurs, I think.
