You do a podcast talking about using dissonance to change a normal melody creepy, and Marvel immediately proves you right with that Avengers trailer.
Re: people who avoid seeing movies for no real reason. My Dad to this day has not seen The Godfather because when it came out, he thought the filmmakers copped out by not mentioning the word "Mafia" in it.
How about a Philip Seymour Hoffman tribute show? A double-feature of Charlie Wilson's War and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead sounds promising.
Is there a release schedule? I missed most of the live event.
I think it tends to play different for modern audiences. I saw it during the restoration re-release in '96, and a lot of the audience thought the second half of the movie played like a comedy. Kids today don't get melodrama, I think.
Yay! 24 hours of whizzzurrdreee!
The main thing that stood out for me in MI-2 was the sheer balls it took to rip off Notorious.
Timing an action sequence to music is normal - timing the prison breakout scene to source music was unusual. That's the characters timing their actions as opposed to the filmmakers. The only precedent I can think of is Hudson Hawk.
How about Danny Boyle's film Trance? I'd like to hear your take on what does and doesn't work in the script, specifically whether the amnesia and the hypnosis count as two separate magic beans, and whether the casting of Vincent Cassel ruins the shift in audience sympathy that's supposed to happen in the third act.
What, no mention of the 1998 Avengers w/Ralph Fiennes & Uma Thurman? Holy fuck, what a steaming pile that was.
Re: Mars Callahan - not sure if he's Hispanic, but I know a guy named Marselino, who goes by the nickname Mars. Also, Mars Callahan is a perfect Schwarzenegger character name.
So . . . stupid question, but . . . will the back catalog of DIF podcasts be migrated to the new iTunes feed?
The iTunes link doesn't work. Will I continue to get updates on the old DIF feed, or do I need to subscribe to a new one?
This news makes David Tennant sad.
Serious question: Will the iTunes feed stay the same, or do I need to subscribe to a new one?
Not-so-serious question: Who's the fucker that ratted you out? It was Rian Johnson, wasn't it? Just couldn't take the criticism, could he?
A suggestion for October (which won't happen, since it's too obscure & low-budget): "The Serpent and the Rainbow" - Wes Craven voodoo horror flick with Bill Pullman from the late '80s.
How old is this podcast? All of Trey's talk about Homeland is about 2 months out of date.
I'd consider this the least awful of Paul "Wet Shits" Anderson's movies.
Until it's blown up on an Imax screen (even fake Imax) you don't notice little issues like the camera occasionally losing focus in some of the medium shots. I definitely loved the new sound remaster, though. I never heard water dripping from the ceiling of the Peruvian caves before.
Sorry, I'm having trouble just getting past the massive typo on the main page, and giggling like a retard saying "Hunstman."
I don't even know how many commentators. All of them. All of the commentators.
How many more commentators could there be? The answer is none. None more commentators.
I'm a big fan of commentaries that seem to be one long inside joke but not letting on that it's a bit, i.e. the commentary for Spartan, with Val Kilmer constantly complaining about what a cunt David Mamet is.
What's the schedule for next week's Kick-Ass commentary? Isn't there some sports-related-thingy-that-isn't-baseball-so-I-couldn't-give-a-shit going on?
I just realized I saw no new movies last year, I was busy watching other movies.
This. I suck at this film buff thing.
