Hm, it is supposed to be already live, right? youtube tells me "live now" on Teague`s youtube page but the video/stream states
This video is not available.
Sorry about that.

Edit: Problem resolved wink Streams blocked only in Germany, but an unblocker helps me out.

Hi there,
I can only speak about the movie as i have not read any of the books.
But I´m now interested in the books although I really did not like the movie.
Everything that seemed interesting only got a cursory mentioning-

  Show

I´m a third, i´m not even supposed to be here. I like when movies do not have to spell everything out (ok overpopulation lead to global 2 child policy) but the whole family dynamic seemed to have a lot more in store than just so state: yep all genius, but one a brute one too nice so have a third try, because they seem too much the same age to have the failure of the other lead to conception of the third)

The mind evalution game with the mouse. AND I THOUGHT yeah, finally some real virtual reality that has a meaningfull connection to the real world- and then---- there are images of his siblings in his game, delete it.
That´s for a rewarding pay-off.

Dream communication with the Queen- sorry, but is the queen only trying to communicate with him or others too? Is this some hidden chosen one theme apart from him being the required super genius?

And I really didn´t care for the war room, the whole quidditch game and all. Before going into the first fight i already knew- there is a goal that a single member of the team can accomplish to win even if the team is behind in points over 9000. So what is he going to do? In Potter i did not care for the game either, but at least there was always something going on behind the scenes at the same time.

And the final battle. Ah yeah, there you go, you just saved us. I cant really pinpoint why i was 100% sure the "simulation" would be the real battle even before it started without rewatching it (which i have no intention of doing). Could be I looked one too many times at my watch to realize they only have time for one elaborate battle sequence, but i think it was pretty bland in the movie beforehand. Ah now I remember, Ford even has a line that states something like "we can´t do anything know"- and i think this line even was in the trailer- jeeeeeees, what are you doing, movie.
The twist wouldnt have been good anyway, even if it worked. I dont think it was established very well, that Ender really had no intention to eradicate the enemy- being too compassionate. There are hints that he might not do what command wants him to do, but only because he is smarter than them. The whole "simulation is already the real thing" trick was not asked for by Ender himself questioning the morality of the enterprise enough.
And so the motivation for the ending gets across even more slapped together, because his regret pretty much comes out of nowhere for me.
Leaving aside the fact that there is a queen on the planet and he finds it in walking range of the command center. That is convenient. No, that´s sequel convenient.

btw i really like your name, the story is still one of my favourites by Kipling

I would suggest 12 angy men, because it is awesome. And popular despite its age. Sidney Lumet really rocks the shit out of a single room. No explosions, just dialog, as i like it. Unity of space, time and action stuff.

I`m always a little proud when german movies are half decent. This one is fun, although its strenghts are more in tone than in complex characters. Left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. And it always helps when you like the love interest.

I did not see a single trailer back then, only a few posters, and this one I really liked. To take the iconic image of what seems to be a younger Luke with the foreshadowing taken literal was a neat idea.

Yeah, floating heads always seem to be just a fallback if they either have no idea visually or are bound to sell the movie only through the big names- or both.

Anyway, these movies feel like homework. I'm not excited for it, but I know I'm going to be there opening weekend.

Haha, that is an adequate comparison. I`m sure i will watch it, but I don`t know whether it will be in the theater. As I personally boycot 3d it probably won`t. I liked bits and pieces of the first Hobbit movie, but the action sequences, especially the long action sequence escaping the caves, bored me much like the light saber fights in episode1-3, and it already being so long and sidetracked so often, I don´t know whether I would even call part one a pleasant experience. So what am i expecting?

I do get that in every Tolkien adaptation there will be a female part expanded or inserted, as he is mostly writing about dudes (with a few exeptions here and there), but seriosly, who is that elven chick?

Btw I still dont get why they go for the hobbit and not for the story of Hurin´s Sons or the story of Luthien and Beren, if they want to go all lenghty and epic on it. Those are material for the format they want. And there even would be strong female parts in there, Silmarillion Spoiler

  Show
Luthien faces of Morgoth almost all by herself ffs.

Hm, the reason i read this thread is that I came across this site only because of Confused Matthew mentioning you folks.

I did a little bit of studying arts and media at my crap university, and the funny thing I got out of that is, that if you want to include any artefact of art (also of the realm of moving pictures) into any analysis you almost always have to narrow down your focus to the aspects you examine, because you never have enough room to compare every single aspect of the item. This is way easier and totally legit in an approach, as long as you indicate it properly.

To me CM makes it clear enough where his point of interest is situated, and his reviews primarily were triggered by a feeling of personal disappointment, because a movie failed to work in the aspects that are most dear to him. As is made clear enough in his 2001 commentary, he will not even try to appreciate other virtues of a movie, that fails to accomodate him in the aspects he seeks in movies.

For me, as the rules are clearly stated, i wont bother consulting him on any movie i know he will not appreciate in the first place. But he has a place in my bookmarks for his thoughts on movies I think are in his playing field.

And as it is the internet after all, I`m fine with people rejecting things I personally hold dear, even if they are not the least bit polite about it.

The thing is, before I bumped into friends in your head, I had to be cherry picking in every format I encountered, because noone really offered me the holelistic approach I was searching for. There is red letter media, and I still watch almost everything they put online, but what makes you guys special in my eyes is the constructive attitude you put into your crap-movie-experience, the speculations around what would have made this bad movie better.

To go back to the start of my post: surprise, there are people out there, who don´t need to narrow down their focus so much they wear blinders on what might be outside of it smile
Though to be fair you have both the advantages of bouncing opinions of each other and the longer format. I know it probably isn´t going to happen, but I think I really would enjoy CM as a guest on some episode wink

Well, I have thought about the three riders problem some time ago-
I actually would not exclude that the Aegon we were presented is real. Three dragons are pretty badass to have, but what if Dany actually allies with Aegon somewhere along the ride but later (as he reveals himself to be more of the mad kings state of mind as is already hinted in book 5) they part ways again, though Aegon even got around to controll a dragon? Might lead to some interesting fx scenes towards the end.

On the other hand- what would be the point of the extensive development novel of Bran, when he will not warg into something awesome? Wait- perhaps Aegon gets hold of a dragon, reveals his true self and is then stopped by his own dragon via Brans remote control?
This could also be the case if the Greyjoy gets hold of one by means of the horn.

haha, minor mistake, if you don`t mind me correcting: Mein Luftkissenfahrzeug (though Luftkissenboot would be the more commonly used term) ist voller Aale! or voll mit Aalen!

If it is a movie reference, i totally don`t get it.

Hey, so my first post ever in an introduction thread on a forum... if the instructions under "rules" still are valid, i kinda have a gun to my head wink

So I´m from Germany; my favourite colour is green... or blue; i like depressive folk music, jazz in small instrumentation, radiohead and modest mouse. My favourite website of all times is blogotheque.net, although i don`t understand a word of french.

I like movies too.
First movie I ever percieved as something more than flickering lights would be The Sting, and loved heist movies ever since.
Also
Watchmen
Brazil
Pans Labyrinth
Mr. Nobody
Unforgiven
12 Angry Men
Dogville

in no particular order.

So after hearing Teague say the forums are awesome for the 40th time i came to join the fun!
