Re: Suggest a Commentary 2.0: The Suggestioning

Let me pitch a little movie called "Ravenous". I get the feeling it passed under the radar for a lot of people, but it's a really interesting genre movie, it does a lot of things...weirdly. If anyone here hasn't seen it I implore you to. It's got Guy Pierce and Robert Carlyle in the leads, with a host of character actors and a collaboration between Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman on the score, it's an odd duck on all sides.

Unfortunately Jeffrey Jones had to go full pervert but his role isn't that meaty, and you managed getting through Howard the Duck without much incident so that won't be a problem I would think.

Given your new branding, it's perfect for you guys. How can you watch that and not ask, "What the fuck are you doing, movie?"

It should be noted that pretty much every chick in this movie gets her tits out at some point, and you usually don't have to wait long.

It's shot (and edited) like an episode of Magnum. I kept expecting it to cut to Higgins practising martial arts with his dogs on Robin Masters' estate.

Oh, and the full film is on Youtube.

I would suggest 12 angy men, because it is awesome. And popular despite its age. Sidney Lumet really rocks the shit out of a single room. No explosions, just dialog, as i like it. Unity of space, time and action stuff.

When you guys were recording The Sting, my dad suggested you guys should do The Great Waldo Pepper. It's Directed be George Roy Hill, Screenplay by William Goldman, Starring Robert Redford.  (It's on Netflix)

Re: Suggest a Commentary 2.0: The Suggestioning

It would be an interesting conclusion to the sorta-trilogy, since it's Goldman and Hill and Redford again, just no Newman.   And Goldman does offer a lot of good insight into it in his books, including his theories on why it didn't become a monster hit like Butch or Sting.

My guess is that it has the word "Waldo" in the title.

Same problem The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz had.

By the way, Trey, I don't have a Twitter account, so I don't have a better place to say this, but you are killing on Twitter.

+1 for 12 Angry Men.  Actually you could do a double feature and the original film and the remake from the 90's...

Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis (To compare it with the Fritz Lang edition and to do an Anime film).

Bloodsport (After listening to the Favorite Bad Movies Intermission show, it needs to be done).

A Clockwork Orange (because I don't understand why people like this movie the way Anthony Burgess doesn't understand).

Any of the classic Bond films (I'm amazed I haven't seen one in the list, and if I'm wrong, link me please and thank you).

Fortress of Doom (Kurosawa film which partially inspired Star Wars).

Also, said it before, but I'll say it again, Species. I want to hear Trey talk on that one smile

Guys, will you ever again record commentaries for episodes of TV shows (like you did with the pilot of Firefly)?

Re: Suggest a Commentary 2.0: The Suggestioning

The Director's Cut (which technically isn't even a Director's Cut) is inferior in my opinion. The added scenes, while interesting, make the film too long and it gives Riggs one introduction too many.  If they were to do Lethal Weapon, I hope they do the theatrical cut which is actually Richard Donner's preferred cut. smile
