tl;dr

Get your oldest relatives to label old photos with names of the subjects, or half your family history will be lost forever.

^ How old were you in that photo Zarban?

Re: Your new year's resolution: family photos

True story, doing something similar on ancestry dot com put me in contact with my aunt from my fathers side, who put me in contact with my half-sister and half-brother. The daughter of my cousin, who I met for the first time a few years ago, is now in Melbourne on a working visa.

I've gone from having a small family to a reasonably sized one, and they're awesome (mostly. Half-sister is a born-again. It's ... Uncomfortable, she's basically in a sanctioned cult).

Over on Tysto.com, way down in the right-hand column, you can find links to a rather fancy PowerPoint presentation* all about my family history, with stories of Indian attacks, witch trials, cannibalism, regicide, furniture manufacture, and a parade of German farmers.

In 50-100 years, all we'll need to do is get a cheek-swab and a computer will spit out our family ancestry back to East Africa 60,000 years ago. We're all cousins.

not long to go now...
