Topic: What's a movie you refuse to watch, and why (for a good reason)?

You've heard about it, you know it's well-made, excellent, and profound. You're sure that if you watched it, it would be worthwhile in the end.

But you can't.

What's that movie for you?

For me, it's Room. I'm sure it's great, but I do not have the heart to watch it. I'm hyper-sensitive to that kind of story, and I don't think I ever want to see it, however good it may be.

Schindler's list. Never a time where I can say 'I just fancy watching a bit Schindler's list'. I have seen it, about 20 years ago though. Dif wise, Ong Bak. Just never got around to it. Start and get bored and turn it off.  Or, any of 'The amazing spiderman's' but I can not confirm or deny them being well made or excellent so I'm discounting them. TV shows... Game Of Thrones. Squeif accents and fantasy bullshit just aint my bag. Spork forced me to watch it and I got to half way thru the second season before calling time on it. Kinda dont care for LOTR's for simular reasons. To long... don't care for the world.

I would argue that Game of Thrones is neither excellent nor profound.

This applies more often to tv than movies, but I tend to avoid Anything In A Prison.  I think it comes from being the child of a civil rights attorney/public defender, and thus growing up aware of what a nightmare most prisons are.  So for me the concepts of prison and entertainment do not intersect at all. 

So for example, Orange is the New Black - never been remotely tempted to watch it.  I  don't care how many awards it wins.  And although Shawshank is a well-made movie, I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

I think they get back in a new prison at the end of season 2, which is when I stopped watching.

Ah, the wonders of TV production...

For me, it is something like Game of Thrones. I can enjoy fantasy just fine, especially LOTR or even Sword of Truth, but Game of Thrones feels deliberately mean. I feel like there are no characters that are worth investing in, or that the good stuff will be drowned out by the gallons of death.

It's heavy stuff but fantastically acted and beautifully shot.  Brie Larson is just immense in it.

The Birth of a Nation. I'd rather not have conflicted feelings about a piece of vile racist garbage also inventing a huge chunk of cinema.

This year's The Birth of a Nation, however, I'm psyched for.

Almost the entire supernatural haunted house horror genre.

Clint Eastwood war movies.

'Good' movies that hold no interest: Ali, Philadelphia, Sound of Music, Pretty Woman, Crash.

I'm in the same boat as all of these, except for baseball movies. I love baseball and grew up on baseball movies. The Sandlot, The Natural, Field of Dreams, 61*; even the more schlocky, kiddie ones like Angels in the Outfield, Rookie of the Year and Little Big League. In Moneyball, Brad Pitt says, "It's hard not to be romantic about baseball." That's certainly true for me. We haven't had a decent "romantic" baseball movie in a good long while. I can't even imagine what a modern one would look like.

Lots of great baseball movie soundtracks too. One hidden gem that I love is from The Rookie.
