I'd be really interested in a Skyfall commentary. I just relistened to the Best of 2012 Intermission, where Brian called it his favorite film of the year, and was quite frankly baffled; the numerous plotholes in that film were awful, I thought.
I think they'll have to get to some of the Bond movies at some point, but I think personally you have to tackle Casino Royale before you look at Skyfall. In my opinion it's the more interesting one to look at anyway, as they went from arguably the worst movie in the series (Die Another Day) straight to not only the best movie in the series, but one of the best blockbusters of that decade.
Casino Royale I think is in many ways the textbook grade A example of how to construct and build momentum within an action sequence. And of course, it also manages the crazy balancing act of completely rejecting most of what the series was known for, while still capturing the "vibe" of classic bond. It's funny how it came out around the same time as Batman Begins, and Nolan went on to get so much credit for how he re-invented that character, while Martin Campbell doesn't seem to have gotten nearly as much praise, despite making (in my opinion) a far superior film.
Skyfall succeeds on the strength of it's cinematography, set-pieces, and a really unique choice of a Bond movie climax, but some of the story beats, and the villain in particular, just don't work.

This is a thought that occurred to me, and requires a little bit of an explanation.
Recently, my wife was quoted for something she posted on an internet forum in a published magazine. I was pleased as punch but it reminded me of the copyright debate in "Backyard Blockbusters," and the place of copyright in the modern world. With ability to create digital information and freely share it, such as what Trey did with "Pink 5" among other recent examples, what is the purpose of copyright law? I think I know the answer, but I'm not an industry insider like many here.
I'm not trying to start a fight like what happened in "Backyard Blockbusters" so much as I would like to here a more in depth analysis as to the place of copyright in the modern world.
Well, the purpose of copyright is the same as ever - to give creators control over how their works are distributed. The Pink Five videos are copyrighted because I don't want them freely shared.

Don't get me wrong, it's certainly a topic of interest - but it's not because copyright has no more purpose. Its purpose is the same as it's always been, but due to technology it's become much harder to enforce.
And there's also the societal trends that have led many people to believe copyright is somehow a bad thing. For any of us who work in the arts, it's pretty much the only thing that enables us to make a living at all.
As for doing a show on it, didn't we pretty much cover it in the Fair Use episode? I admit I haven't listened to that one in a while, tho.

I think you hit the nail on the head, so to speak, with the new trend that the belief that copyright is a bad thing. I seem to run in to it more and more, and is one of the many reasons I do not post original works on the interwebs.
I'll admit to sometimes being frustrated by copyright law but I seriously do not get the belief that copyright is bad.
I think the attitude is more prevalent since the use of file sharing, where it is easy to get an item it actually seems to devalue the work put in to it.
Trey is correct. The Fair Use episode is pretty much all you would need on the subject.
It's been a year since the first Hobbit and there's not a commentary yet. That's gotta be on the slate for when you guys return next year.

A friend of mine had her script produced by hitRECord. I think the whole idea is great. I second it as an intermission topic.
I don't think it'd go well. I hosted the exact same project for Nerdist for more than a year, and it never went anywhere, so I'm biased against all of HR and its acolytes. And since I know the guys who do this podcast, I have some sway.

Honestly, I'm surprised there isn't already a Robocop commentary.
I've been lobbying for RoboCop and its sequel in the old "Suggest a Commentary" thread and, IIRC, Teague mentioned that it's a possibility.
