Topic: Pimping.

Hey folks. In the past month we've rolled out a few tweaks to the show in an effort to make us as easily-archivable and linkable as possible, plus with the added enhancements to the episodes, live broadcasts with chat and our shiny donate button, the overall "hey, they're really trying"-ness of the show has bumped a little as well.

I've gone through IMDb and added our episodes to the interminable piles of External Reviews for the movies in question, and I have an email into them getting clearance to pimp episodes on the IMDb boards as well.

If anyone knows of (or stumbles across) (or actively looks for, thereby winning my eternal love) a place where a link and/or a description of a particular episode would not go amiss, it'd be great if you could do so. The idea is, post a link on some Nightmare Before Christmas website and we get them die-hard Nightmare Before Christmas fans in on that episode, and some number of them click around for a while and give The Crow a listen. Or whatever.

This sort of thing is of equal or greater value than a monetary donation, so if you don't have a few bucks to spare, this is a much-appreciated gesture.

The format for linking to an episode is www.downinfront.net, and then add /index.php?id=## to the end. The ## indicates which episode of the show that is. (The Fifth Element being 75, and so forth.)

Any and all other ideas for word-of-mouthing are welcome and wanted. Anything we can do to make it easier for you to convince one person to listen to the show is on the table.

Aside from blowjobs.

Re: Pimping.

Well, personally, I don't know anyone else in 'real life' who listens to commentaries (I'm a 'movie geek').  What I can do though is put a link in the signature of forums I frequent.....except this one, obviously, I think everyone here knows....

That'd be tremendous, dude, thanks!

Re: Pimping.

Pimping ain't easy, but I sure as shit do it.

Give me a free T-shirt and I'll wrestle in it until I have abs.  So, basically, free advertising forever.

When.

Re: Pimping.

Going to various web sites that list podcasts and making sure you're listed on there would be a good idea (googling 'Podcast directory' brings up a bunch of sites). I freely admit I'm too lazy to do it, but if you give us the actual feed address maybe some of us can get it done. Often those using these sites subscribe using links there and never bother going to the podcast's own homepage. In fact, it should be possible for someone to subscribe to the podcast RSS feed right from your homepage without going through iTunes. No reason to turn away Apple haters smile

Re: Pimping.

Someone's gonna have to explain how to do that. I'm honestly unaware of how you even use an RSS feed.

Re: Pimping.

All the iTunes store does when you subscribe to a podcast is tell iTunes what RSS feed to use. Hmm, let's see... Ok, it looks like the address I have for Down in Front in iTunes is http://feeds2.feedburner.com/downinfront
I don't feel like unsubscribing and then subscribing with that, but if that sounds right we can use it. Take a look at, for example, http://www.theskepticsguide.org/ They have a bunch of links including an orange button you can click to subscribe regardless of what podcast program you're using. Every podcast home page uses that icon, often along with the iTunes subscription link you already have.
(to subscribe using that Skeptics Guide link using iTunes, I'd copy it then choose the "subscribe to podcast" option in the advanced menu and paste it in there)

Its a bit strange quoting myself, but I have done this. A message in red (to catch the eye) and a link to the DIF front page in my sig. I have also posted a few times in the past few days so, hopefully it will get seen.

May not work, but you never know smile

Re: Pimping.

I love that. Was that you? We had some mention like this on TVTropes a while back.

In any case, fuck yes.

Re: Pimping.

Say, does anyone know how to edit Wikipedia?

We could add links to the episodes with Trey being an expert, or Men in Black with Lowell, to the "external links" sections of those movies.

Re: Pimping.

Pretty sure it's just HTML / CSS.  I'll add it to my "to research" list.  Good idea.

Re: Pimping.

Here's a template for you:
*[http://www.downinfront.net/index.php?id=## Down In Front Commentary]
Just change ## to the episode id, maybe customize the text a bit, and you're set, e.g., for Men in Black you might make it:
*[http://www.downinfront.net/index.php?id=45 Down In Front Commentary with Lowell Cunningham]

Re: Pimping.

Maybe we need to set up a Down in Front Wiki page first, then start linking to episodes.

Re: Pimping.

My guess was we'd have better luck at passing their "relevant" quota by adding ourselves as external links for things like The Abyss, Blob, and Men in Black. A DIF wiki would be cool, though.
