I hope, for the love all things holy and good in the universe, that you bought that and are planning to do something remarkably epic with it.
Wasn't that the same day we shot The Vasquez Flyer? No, Brian wound up getting...something else.
Somewhere around 19 to 20 minutes into this episode, the sound drops out for a stretch. Mike starts to bring up Shaun of the Dead and then, static.
Yeah, the mic line-in to the recorder got yanked out somehow.
Wow am I glad I didn't end up buying that model and displaying it in my room.
You had the director in your room?!?!
...Did they put out?
Great find, Teague.
And a pet theory of mine: Watch the movie again. Tony Shalhoub is playing a dumb guy/developmentally challenged/whatever, dumb guy. Backstage, he's not doing a crossword, he's doing a picture matching game in an activity book. He brings a bag lunch in an over-sized grocery bag to a gig. He's not phased by the gel bullet travel because he doesn't understand anything so it's nothing new. He parrots what the engineering team told him just like he repeats his dialogue for the show ('you never missed a line'). There are lots of little jokes to find with my interpretation (if you didn't already think so).
The intent was to play him as a druggie without actually saying it (too keep the rating), but there may not be much difference between that and your theory ![]()
Part of the character for Tony to play was the idea that he was not Asian (I think. Will have to revisit BTS extras on my DVD) but was attempting to play an Asian, or other ethnic group that wasn't his own.
Beyond that, I just thought he was permanently stoned. But, the character is such a quiet, likable character, that you could put many different backgrounds to him and it still works. Much in the way that Trek fans would add in back story to their favorite characters.
You're right about the 'playing an asian' thing. He has a line where he points it out and says his name isn't really Kwan (during the beaming scene).
