The Bride from Kill Bill representing Miramax.
I'm out of it for a little while and everyone gets delusions of Disney buying Lucasfilm...!?
One thing, Fox still has the release rights to the existing films - so future re-releases (if any) still won't be Disney's department.
It does mean that some years down the road, any sort of "Ultimate Box Set" shenanigans will require a lot of negotiation between Fox and Disney. Although for all we know they're already having those meetings...
A Star Wars movie without the Fox fanfare just seems wrong.
The Clone Wars movie was released by Warner Brothers.
Spielberg has gone on the record for wanting to helm a Star Wars film. And I'd like to see Nolan or Fincher have a go. Or Peter Jackson. Or Trey. Or Dorkman. But Ridley Scott can stay the fuck away.
does this change your plans for Pink five at all Trey?

Not in the short term - I'm currently up to my eyeballs planning the shoot this coming weekend.
We promised our Kickstarter backers we would make Volume Three and we will. Nobody can stop us from doing THAT. If when the time comes, we're not allowed to put it online... well, we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.
We're in an especially odd position - is Lucasfilm likely to send us a C&D order to go along with the awards they gave us... for the same project? (Same goes for Ryan/Dorkman and John Hudgens and a lot of us.) Honestly I have no idea.
But if Disney really does decide to try to put the fanfilm/mashup genie back in the bottle after it's been out for so long... well they can certainly try, but the fan backlash will be something to worry about.
Anyway - for now, no change in plans.
One of the professors here has told me that she will look into the agreement Disney made with Lucas. I told her specifically about your situation so we will see. No promises though.
Quickly add some porn scenes, as porn parodies are quite legal
If Disney does decide to crack down, Pink Five will likely be the last large-scale fan film ever made.

I'm looking back at the crackdown Warner Brothers did on Harry Potter fansites when they first acquired HP. They issued hundreds of C&Ds, but eventually backed down. I believe that the only real effects felt was the fact that you can now only sell merch with certain words ("Muggle", "Potter", etc.) at live events, not online. The outcome of the later WB v RDR Books case (where a print version of a HP encyclopedia site was published) was very different.
Do y'all think anyone in the community would push back against the monster that is Disney?

Episode recorded. Coming as soon as I can master and make images for it.
Looks like we're gonna have an episode about this up tonight. No promises, but, we're "on" it.

Thanks for being so quick and prompt to address this, guys. This will probably be talked about for a LONG time.

Hey guys, it could be worse. They could have announced a Star Wars reboot.
I don't believe it...

Somebody get Timothy Zahn on the phone.
Donald vs. Howard the Duck, make it happen.
I want a 2D Ewok musical and "Yub Nub" better be a number, goddammit.

Thank you guys for a wonderful and insightful discussion. I'm with you on both scared and hopeful. If Disney lets Lucasfilm work like their agreement with Marvel I think it will be ok, if its more a Pixar kind of situation I'd be a little more worried. I do have to mention the one thing my Mom came up with and that was the possibility of casting Disney's "stars" in a Star Wars film, i.e. Justin Bieber as young Luke. Anyway, I think you're right about there being a lot of decisions coming in the next 6 months or so which should give us a better read on the situation, so I guess we'll see.
I do hope that if Disney decides to go with the C&D route they do it with some amount of tact, I've seen far too much backlash that has resulted from unaware and possibly inexperienced lawyers writing C&D letters to a active community.
